Might indeed be needed and smart. Not saying this is the same as Spanish Flu but that had a second wave and that killed more people than the first. They then also needed a long time of social distancing and so on.

At midnight tonight nz moves from alert level 4 to alert level 3 . There are still many restrictions in place but some non essential business can open (With strict criteria for how they operate) education facilities for under 10 year olds can reopen .. Some regional travel is permitted and surfing is now allowed (yay). The focus is still on maintaining small bubbles .. working from home where possible .. maintaining social distancing , hand hygiene and seeking medical assistance /testing if unwell . We remain Vigilant and will return to alert level 4 if nec . Our borders remain closed to international tourism . Although our efforts are paying off we are under no delusion that we have beaten covid or that life will return to precovid anytime soon . we will continue to investigate any new cases and implement stricter strategies To halt community spread . Winter is approaching and that may Well see a resurgence of cases . We have been conducting community checks of asymptomatic people .. also minority and vulnerable groups . So far the majority of that testing has come back negative which is an encouraging indicator .
Flu vaccinations were started early and we have had an amazing record response . More will be administer over the coming weeks .

Coronavirus: New Zealand claims no community cases as lockdown eases

New Zealand says it has stopped community transmission of Covid-19, effectively
eliminating the virus.

With new cases in single figures for several days - one on Sunday - Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the virus was "currently" eliminated.

But officials have warned against complacency, saying it does not mean a total end to new coronavirus cases.

This is good news.

OMG! WOW! Today only 400 new cases?!!! Bleep me, I can jump for joy!!

Germany some 150, so going really well...
Even Belgium is finally going down with numbers of new cases! 553

Lets keep our fingers crossed this is going to continue and there won't be a 2nd wave.

With numbers going down you will soon get people demanding freedom back... Which could be EXACTLY why the still delicate balance will be thrown off...

Fingers very much crossed!!

Oxford University 'leaps ahead' in Covid-19 vaccine race

Could there be millions of doses of a Covid-19 vaccine available by September?
It seems significantly earlier than we had been cautioned to expect, but the Oxford University's Jenner Insititute believes it has produced an effective vaccine, and plans to carry out clinical tests on 6,000 people before the end of May.

The Jenner vaccine was tested on six rhesus macaque monkeys at the US National Institutes of Health’s Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Montana last month, according to the New York Times.

The monkeys were exposed to high doses of the virus, and all six remained healthy 28 days later. Monkeys without the vaccine fell sick, according to the report.

The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), which is funding nine different coronavirus vaccine projects, is hopeful a vaccine could be ready this year, Bloomberg reports.

CEPI had initially envisaged a later timescale because it had not taken factors into account such as companies working together.

if you're over 75 or under 8 and have ill health, you'll maybe get some serious flu problems otherwise most likely not.

A long way to go for any country as yet what ever they say. I'm glad we've left Europe now so we can spend our money getting ourselves back on track instead of bailing out others.
On something else regarding elderly and care homes. Mostly in China the families stay together looking after their parents and grandparents where as we in the west ship them out to homes. Maybe this has a effect on the amount of crinkley people dieing?
But who in their right mind would trust the Chinese these days, they are worse than the Russians?

Improving still! Only 171 new cases today!!! YEEEHAAAAAAA!!!
It's the 9th day but this low was over 1,5 months ago when we were still on the way up.

Belgium also fewer, so they are likely on the right track too.

UK seems a little less the last 3 days but not like a big downward thing. Fingers crossed for you too!

USA also fewer new cases last 3 days after they hit the million cases.

And of course hoping it will hold steady.

Still a long journey ahead for nz But we are in a good position to stay on top of covid . Contact tracing and high surveillance will continue into the future .

Today was the second day of easing of our alert system and people all over nz went crazy at the drive in waiting in long queues for takeaways lol. There are still major restrictions for the retail industry which have seen some interesting ways of delivering takeaways to customers ... such as a flying fox contraption lol. Fish and chips can be preordered and collected .. but social distancing rules still apply . Cars were lined up at macdonalds before 2am waiting for the drive thru to open at 5 am .. people have obviously missed the fast food fix !!! Customers are not allowed in store .. only drive thru s are operating at this stage . Lots of breaches on the first day requiring police intervention to remind customers they still need to maintain social distancing at alert level 3 .. hopefully that will improve as the novelty wears off . I am not a big fan of takeaways but I did stop and buy a double shot caffeine fix after night shift ... yum smitten

pathology Autopsy of covid victim shows rupture of heart .....

http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2020/04/coronavirus-united-states-first-covid-19-victim-died-when-heart-basically-burst-pathologist.amp.html

The heart is not the only vital organ targeted . Multi organ failure is a common presentationwith severe covid infection .

Abnormal haematological findings including increased D-Dimer (often indicative of blood clots but also a marker for severe inflammation , autoimmune processes , idiopathic infection and tumours ) are also being reported .
These reports suggest that Covid-19 has a physiopathology that Is more than pneumonia. Will post further links later waving

UK seems to slowly develop a downward trend. Hope that continues to increase, meaning the numbers to decrease faster and faster.

We have 386 today. So a wobbly downward trend but going from 1000+ new cases a day to under 700 is a wonderful change!

I've had a recurring broken heart. Need another to keep it company.

For a comparison, and some light reading, the Wikipedia SMALLPOX entry is interesting, the numbers are astronomical, and with a world population around 2 billion back in the 70's, and it was business as usual. Not pretty, but life went on back then.
Haven't reached 100 deaths in australia yet, billions spent. Hospitals empty.
