Yet I'm trying to change but you are not...you are prejudiced against someone with different values,,,err prejudices than you have.

That is because I only have one prejudice.
I freely admit it.
It is the bane of my existence.
I am prejudiced against the prejudiced.
A mouthfull of prejudice leaves a nasty
aftertaste unlike anything man-made.

And if you are trying to change, shifting
the onus to people from whom you have
solicited their opinions, is not a
step forward.

Why is everyone trippin on the old hippie. With all the requirements threads, and Love lists and everything else that people desire in a mate...there are a billion people who would prefer a NON-smoker over a smoker, HANDS DOWN...

He never said he is not sociable with these types of people, he is not interested in dating them is all. Why is everyone getting so defensive. Everyones preferences is different. He asked a question and he's getting answers.

Does that make a person prejudice though for preferring one type of woman over another?

I see so many women who smoke, drink or have tattoos.

While I can be friends, romantically for me it is a turn-off!

What do you think?
I agree on the smoking thing- don't wanna kiss an ash traysick

I don't drink-except for a toast at a wedding or something
and I am tattooless...Is that a word?laugh

Well done tattoos can make someone hotter in my eyes.

I have no problem with drinking either.

Drinking changes most people's pesonalities. I think of tattoos as grafitti.

I have never kissd a smoker, must be like licking an ashtray!

this is also my experience, some would call it uptight for sure,,,but Im comfortable enough with me not to really care,,lol

(and I have dated smokers and drinkers in the past, but choose not to anymore)

oh, the sensitivity and stigma of words

prejudice just means to pre judge,, so any preference is also a prejudice because we PREJUDGE our compatibility with an individual without getting to know them first,,,we make assumptions based upon past experiences

prejudice is not always bigoted or hateful

Good point Simone!flowerforyou

I have really been noticing alot of hostility in the threads lately. Its like everyone is just waiting to cram some harsh words down somebodies throat! I dont like it either. I like it more when people state their opinions alittle nicer, ya know?

I agree. Everyone had the right to his/her opinion and I respect that but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Sometimes I can be enlightened by someone's post and it can make me see where they are coming from. However the minute it starts to get nasty, any good point they may have gets lost on me and I no longer want to read what they have to say.

For a long time I would never date a smoker.

Once I started dating smokers, though, I found that all of the ones I dated wanted to quit - consciously or unconsciously. After a few months of us enjoying our shared interests, especially physical activities, my partner would eventually quit smoking. I never criticized any of my smoking partners for smoking, and I never asked them to stop, and was never 'waiting' or silently expecting them to. I did want them to be healthy and value their health, but honestly I don't think an occasional cigarette is that horrible for your health. Health is complex, with thousands of influencing factors; and loving yourself may be more important than avoiding the occasional cigarette.

We would just go do all the things we love doing, together, and she would start smoking less and less. Without any drama, promises, declarations, eventually she would just stop. My non-girlfriends make 'quitting smoking' seem like a big deal, but my girlfriends seemed to give it up pretty easy, gently.

As I write this, I realize there were two things I did do to influence the situation. For one, if I ever heard a smoking girlfriend criticize herself for smoking, my response would be to support her in accepting herself. Smoking is totally not worth 'judging' yourself for, IMO, and I like my girlfriends to have high self esteem and self love.

The other thing is related to how my gfs relate to others. If my girlfriend wants to smoke, for her own reasons, thats cool. But, for example, when one of them had a roommate (who wants to quit, but can't) who tried to subtly manipulate her into smoking more, I stepped in and pointed out what was happening. Not because I wanted her to quit, but because I wanted her to make deliberate, self determined decision.

You're right, sometimes things in the forums can get out of hand. If you mention something you don't like get ready to be put before the firing range cause that where some ppl are going to take you. Gotta roll with the punches I guess. You never know how ppl are going to take a thread.
