Topic: I must be uptight for a hippie brained freak | |
---|---|
Ya know...this whole thing reminds me of a few weeks ago. I hit the Local Harley shop with my dad for thier Saturday cookout. As I sat there eating and listening to them discuss, politics/economy and religion, I started to laugh. I said "40 years ago, you tattooed, long haired, leather wearing bikers were considered left wing liberals. Today you are the right wing conservatives. Politics hadn't changed. Religion hasn't changed. The economy hasn't changed. You guys have." After a pause, all of them started chuckling and nodding. "Your kid is right" (they told my Dad.) Just something to throw out there. Take it or leave it. My Dad in his friends may ride and be tatted up...but they ain't the biker stereo type. You may consider yourself a hippy bro but, I just don't see any "hippie" traits. I still prefer peace, serenity, happiness, love, and rock n roll as a did when young and living the hippie life. yes this is a good way to say it - the values and the outlook developed in that era have stayed with many people - even some not directly involved in that movement - the ideas about cooperation vs competition (or healthy vs destructive competition), that as a people we accomplish more with love togetherness and cooperation and acceptance. love as loving those who are NOT like us as well as those who are, and the music of that era - defintely epic but if girls with tats aren't ur thing - seriously - nobody is gonna care |

remember that body art is nothing new people have been "decorating" themselves according to subcultural norms of beauty for centuries there is nothing new under the sun, sweety Subcultural norms? Tats have nothing to do with subculture and every thing to do with group norms. ummm not necessarily as subcultures are group - geez c'mon motown _ I thought u were one of the smaaart kids ![]() and I was really referring to the wider topic of body art Tats have been used for centuries to show membership in a culture. They have become the symbol of belonging to, or wanting to belong to, a certain generation, much the same as long hair and bell bottom pants where the symbols of belonging to another generation. I was actually a little young to be a full fledged "hippie" (my folks would have tied me to a chair first). But I am just old enough to remember it pretty well, and remember that my 9th grade class were the radicals that won permission from the superintendent to wear bell bottoms to school!!!! Can u just imagine?!?!? ![]() I can remember dodging the principal all my senior year cuz my hair touched my ears. At the end, they wouldn't allow me on the graduation stage looking "like that." They mailed everybody's to them anyway. well by my Sr year things were pretty much changed...tho I do remember a gal who shall remain un named streaking across the graduation stage naked as the day she was born - dropped the robe and bolted ![]() but by that time all the guys had ponies and we were actually retro to the 50s (many of us ) by then....it took maybe 2 or 3 years for the school dress code to be blasted into oblivion.... ![]() |

And practically every poster gave me thoughts to chew over so I can see the "error of my ways." So I won't be uptight anymore. |

... ummm not necessarily as subcultures are group That's how I took it, too: subculture = culture of a group that exists within a larger culture. |

I disagree. I definitely don't think all women are high maintenance, based on many women I know. Maybe your friends are different? ![]() |

Why is everyone trippin on the old hippie. With all the requirements threads, and Love lists and everything else that people desire in a mate...there are a billion people who would prefer a NON-smoker over a smoker, HANDS DOWN... He never said he is not sociable with these types of people, he is not interested in dating them is all. Why is everyone getting so defensive. Everyones preferences is different. He asked a question and he's getting answers. Does that make a person prejudice though for preferring one type of woman over another? You're right, sometimes things in the forums can get out of hand. If you mention something you don't like get ready to be put before the firing range cause that where some ppl are going to take you. Gotta roll with the punches I guess. You never know how ppl are going to take a thread. Yes a forum is for different people from different walks of life to state their own opinions and desires. Everything is up for discussion. There are plenty of people who dont want to kiss a smoker. I dont want to date a drug addict or an alcoholic, thos are my preferences. I dont like a man who showers in cologne and then gets in the car. On the flip side, he asked, "what do you think" so he must be prepared for any responses. I just dont get why it was so offensive that he listed his preferences. |

Surgery, the easy way out. My sister paid $20,000 for her face and she still looks the same only happy. I go to the gym, I'm all for that type of sculpting but going under the knife is kind of radical to me. Oh i thought you meant those people who have those HORNS placed under their skin, that stuff creeps me out. I am not opposed to surgery at all. If your sister feels better about herself, then good for her. I am sure she does look different. That stuff is designed to be subtle. We cant all be walking around like Micheal Jackson. lol |

It is fun to live outside the box. You will find some of the nicest people you ever met, may not go to church, may have a dolphin tattood on their ankle, may have breast implants... nowadays it would be a miracle to find someone who doesnt have something done. they either dye their hair, wear fake eyelashes, who knows. Maybe focus on their face and their attitude and pretend they have no tattoos and try and have a nice conversation with a woman. Focus on her eyes or something and listen to her. You will see she is more important than her body art. |
