I see so many women who smoke, drink or have tattoos.

While I can be friends, romantically for me it is a turn-off!

What do you think?

Youre right, i think cuz youre so old, you are a little uptight...laugh laugh laugh

I personally don't like tattoos on me and don't understand why anyone would inflict pain for visual gratification. But just because I don't understand it doesn't mean it's right or wrong. It means it's none of my business.

When it comes to turn offs, what you listed doesn't apply to me, although I don't do neither of those. There are other things that turn me off; consistent long term excessive drinking is one of them.

Last, I don't think you're judgmental. I think that we often try to unlearn the many things we learned from our past. Some shape our values and preferences more than other things. I think that you're curious and self reflective by asking peoples opinion.

None of that bothers me. Unless she drinks like 1/2 of a 1/5 every day. Been there, done that, didn't work.......

How do I dislike, because I won't accept them
due to my values and standards? I have several
friends with tats.

Yes.
Because you don't accept them for who they are.
And you say you have 'friends with tatts' that
you don't accept.
Lucky them.

That I don't accept romantically, big difference then "I won't accept." You will find I accept everybody as friends until they prove different, even convicts cuz they deserve a second chance.

How do I ridicule them, just because it
is not for me? You are so judgmental and talk
of things you know not. You are trying to
stereotype me and i defy that.

Ridicule, the way you presented it:

I have never kissd a smoker, must be like
licking an ashtray!

You prejudge a whole contingent of people,
whomever does anything you don't approve of.
That is pure prejudice.
So, if someone was holding a cigarette for
someone else, the bigot marks them as unsavory.
Nothing to do with them, of course, just the
way prejudice picks and chooses.

You prejudge people you don't even know.
If you are going to do that, you should own it.

So I think kissing a smoker with that tasty ashes in their mouth is like licking an ashtray. And as txgal I think said, kissing an ex is like licking a clean ashtray. I can laugh at that. You are being prejudiced too cuz you don't like my values and have made some wild butted assumptions.

I have friends who smoke away from me. And drink. But that is all they are. I must be crippled prejudicially if I can have friends like that and still be prejudiced.

Yes, I am trying to see what society values are now since I'm a bookworm. And the more soufie types the more turned off I am. A shrill nagging voice telling me I must be prejudiced and have to accept smokers, drinkers and tatters (or whatever they call themselves). Such a turn off.

If a smoker gets ashes in their mouth they are doing it wrong.laugh
Smoke and tar however most of those pass by the mouth and right into the lungs. Also Orbit chewing gum is awesome. I dated a non smoker for four years and if i pop a piece of that into my mouth even right after smoking she couldn't tell I had one. Its amazing how good hygiene can counter our own vices.laugh

Thanks for the info, if I decide to date one I'll bring Orbit!

What makes you so prejudiced is that you
ASSUME a smoker will have aftertaste.
And you adjudicate it.
Like a petrson, who say, eats a lot of chili.
Same issue.
But I guess they are okay.
Even though the problem, according to you,
is the same.
You have selected the smoker, from all the
peoples in the world, to judge as unworthy
of yourself. Oh, and drinkers and tatt'ers.
I am gettin an aftertaste right now.

Prejudice is assumptions run amok.

No offence to those who smoke, but I kissed a guy who smokes before and well.....sick ill sick ill

I don't mind if he drinks sociable or has one or two tattoos. I don't want a man who drinks all the time. I know from experience my dad died an alcoholic.

I think you were prolly raised in an era when the only people who had tattoos were cussing sailors on the docks, & convicts

that is obviously no longer true, but sometimes attitudes & beliefs die hard

Even tho I know that is not true, I have a tough time with it myself because that is what I was raised to believe and in my parents time, it was the truth but that was a long long time ago

I have had several good friends with tattoos but I have not ever had a relationship with a man who has them IDK w/e:heart: tho I have dated one or two who do (have them) and they were fine. I actually like a lot of the body art I have seen, but am a little afraid of men who have them TBH until I get to know them - just because of how I was raised to believe prolly

Well I said I must be uptight.laugh

not necessarily -I don;t feel that my fear of tattoos makes me uptight at all. i am just not an uptight person.

we are all a product of the experiences and lessons, cultural imbibment that we have lived - for good or for bad or indifferent

I think we must choose what to hold to as true and that which is better left behind

I cannot imagine choosing to reject a friendship based on body art...and besides I have seen much of it that I like. I think it is good that there is no longer a stigma associated with it.....time marches on my friend....

I do not reject friendship, it is romance I am having a problem with because to me it defaces their body. I am trying to accept it, the same way I have to accept earrings and makeup (I don't like those either!). I was just wondering what everyone else's take on this is.

Oh my gosh, not the makeup? sad Thank God for makeup, you wouldn't want to see me without it.
