There really is noone "for" abortions anyway.

There are those who agree a woman should have the right to do what she wants with her body and anything growing in it and those who think they should be able to tell a woman what she can do with her body.

I will never tell someone else what to do with their body.

I'm all over the place on abortion and always have been.
If government pays for abortion then we are all killers and it's birth control for the would-be mother.
If government or someone doesn't pay for abortion then the taxpayers pay for the child AND mother for at least 18 years.
If the woman has an abortion odds are good she will have another=$$
If she has the child and the child isn't adopted out, the child could face a miserable life or be sold for prostitution or passed around to any boyfriends who happen through. {ref: the Shinaya case recently}
Gun to my head for answer I would say...no abortion, one child on welfare and then sterilization for the mother.

noway I know you are joking here right?

to a slight degree, I agree with her.
I know way too many gals that have a child and go on welfare.
Then have 2-3-4 more kids that we have to pay for.
using the kids as a way to make a free living.
This is the abuse of the system that needs to stop!
easy answer.. if you go on welfare..NO more babies. if you do.. welfare gets cut off.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard...
Do you even know how much a girl gets for a kid on welfare?
This idea that women have babies to get money is just...I don't even know what to say about it...

Would anyone think differently if I told you I know a very wealthy married woman who choose abortion...I think not. Your stuck in the thought that it is a choice lazy, sluty young girls do for birth control.

I am outa here..this thread has turned terribly ugly...

...And how did THAT happen?

Well, a highly charged topic with a "for or against" vote...what could you expect? Certain topics are really difficult to cover in an environment like this. Add that there is a lot of intolerance for other's opinions today...mayne more than I've ever seen in my life. It's a powder keg. There are probably better topics to discuss...I mean the proof is here before our eyes. People get nasty...resort to "ad hominem abusive" arguments...what's the point?

I agree that its a difficult topic and probably not such a good one for this venue but I disagree that people are more intolerant than ever.

If you look back throughout history you will find that there has never been a time when there has been as much tolerance as there is now for most groups. Yes, we have a long way to go but we have also come very far.

Everyone seems to think that everyones tax dollars are spent on abortions. Well you can see for yourself which states and what they fund.

If she goes in to get an abortion for no good medical reason or a rape... She automatically gets her tubes tied?!

So, essentially she's blamed for the rape? Why isn't the rapist getting a vasectomy if he rapes a woman? At least that would stop any abortions from rape.

There are plenty of women out there who would be happy to get their tubes tied, without ever having children. However, the government isn't really going to allow that to happen as it cuts into the breeding population should something like war decimate a population.

I have a friend who has a history of miscarriages, with a family of women who have miscarriage after miscarriage. She had 4 miscarriages before finally having a child. All of the women in her family had one girl child, before their doctors would let them have a tubal. Her grandmother died giving birth to her mom because she hemorraged. Allie didn't want to really have the kid, but her doctors wouldn't let her get her tubes tied until she had one. Then they still made her get written permission from her husband to get her tubes tied.

Food stamps, yes. I know perfectly well I couldn't afford to have kids. Therefore I didn't do it.

Mob stated it simply. If you get on it, you get temporarily, at least, sterilized. If the gov.t is paying to support you and the children you have, then it isn't any more expensive for the gov.t to sterilize you then it would be to keep paying for all the extra children. If you don't want to be sterilized, even temporarily, then you don't have to get on welfare.

I'd also like to add, having sat at the welfare offices, that everyone who gets one of those checks, or debit cards, need to be required to take a drug test, before the funds dop, and randomly. After all, if I have to take one to have a job, then they need to be taking one to get money/food etc.

I'm good with numbers, and math. Just how many girls do you know that did this? Exact number would be preferable, but lets go ahead and just say 100 to be on the safe side.

So now we have the general number of 100, the most recent percentage I can find with welfare was in 2000 (if anyone has a more recent percent that would be fantastic) that was 2.1, to be on the safe side I even used the population data from 2000 which for the US total population was 281,421,906. Now to get a whole number out of 2.1 percent of 281,421,906 (this involves a bit of math that I won't get into but I can show my work if that is needed)...answer: 5,909,860.03...suddenly that 100 people you knew who were taking advantage of the system doesn't appear to be so big.

I don't care for abortion, it is a non-issue for me. I think that we live in the United States to share equal rights and property over ourselves and goods we purchase, in my mind to take the power from women to make a choice on thier personal well-being and health defies that freedom we all should share regardless of poverty or wealth. This is the fundamental reason why I am an anarchist, even in a supposed "perfect" government (democracy) you still fall to the simplest of issues that shouldn't be issues in the first place.

I have been fortunate...so no. The gals I know who have, well lets just say that there is some confusion on the idea that they are having more babies for more money..they barely survive on it. I'm thinking those who feel this way don't know anyone who ever had to actually live on welfare...it's more like survival, not much of a life.

I was kinda wonderin so I googled it

there have been 46 million abortions since 1973

in America there are roughly 1.3 million abortions every year

that seems to be a pretty major loss of (potential) life

Then you have NO idea exactly how it works. I was on it for about a year. I got 190 a month. You can't live on that at all! Not only that, but when we finally went to court with my sons father, he had to PAY BACK EVERYTHING the state had given me. Not only that, but while you receive assistance, you have to either a.) Go to work or b.) go to school. How could anyone survive off of 190 a month? Why do you care?

I have worked my whole life and paid taxes, so why don't I deserve some help when Im down?

I get sick of people complain about things they have NO clue about.

Food stamps is completely different and there are more people being dishonest about that than anything.

I am not on it any longer, but thankful that is it there for people that need it.

Food stamps in Texas work the same way. I think I got 30.00 a month. Just for myself. I fully agree that's no way to live. Even drinking water via the tap, there's not really a good way to eat.

I also agree that it is my tax money, and that's why I use it, and unemployment when I needed it. I put into it, and I wanted it back.

But, I and others who have used it, also got back on their feet and got off it. You did as well. There are plenty of people who have no plans doing so. A friends ex d-in-l is playing the system, and the military as well as she and he play games back and forth. She's never been able to afford to have kids, and holds a job a week tops, once a year. She'd got 4 kids, and fuilly admits, if she could find a guy, she'd have more. That is wrong, and that type of person needs to be sterilized, especially if she's going to plunk her butt on welfare.

I was constantly appalled at the folks who have Lexus SUV's sitting outside the welfare place. I counted 2 and a mercedes benz and a hummer, one day while I was sitting in the waiting room. Sell the dang vehicle, get something used, and get to work. The money spent on that alone would feed a group of people. Quit milking the system. The gal in the office said they were directed to ignore the vehicles, even though they knew that it was owned and belonged to the people sitting there waiting for their money.

Welfare is much more than food stamps and a small check per child. There was a thread at one time about it...more people are getting "welfare" than most realize. Many things are in the "welfare state" category.
The difference is some feel entitled to it and feel a single mom should have been more careful..
All should see what counts as welfare, most would be very surprised.
