We have alot in common then....I spend a small fortune on art supply for both my kids....very into it...my oldest held her first paint brust at 1 year....very artsy.....not from me though. The youngest ones now in to stain glass......I always try and let my kids find their passions and do whatever I can do help them.

My older one has been playing the violin sine 3rd grade...Actually going on April 9th to play in New York Philharmonic....very excited.....She is also now taking piano her teacher calls her a music savant...she hears she plays...lol

I wrote this short Flute and Guitar Fantasy

http://www.csonline.net/designer/ideas/flute.htm

The sound file was actually computer generated from the sheet music program. But I can play both the guitar and the flute parts because I actually designed this music live whilst ad-libbing on the instruments.

I've been meaning to record it live, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'd have to play the guitar part first and then play the flute over that.

But since the sheet music program already sounds good I just left it at that. laugh

Well the only problem is that I can’t seem to find any way to share it with people.

Teaching has always been my ‘calling’. Although, I never really felt that I was ‘called’ to be teacher. At least not as a career. It’s just that everywhere I ever worked my coworkers always told me that I explained things really well and that I seem to have a knack for explaining it to them in whatever way works best for them. That always came natural for me. I can “see” what a person needs and how they think, and then teach them according to their vision of it so they can best understand it. I work best one-on-one for that reason.

I was actually more interested in research and development which is the field I got into professionally, but I ended up becoming a designer and inventor more than a research technician. By that I mean, I ended up inventing tools and equipment for the researches to use in their research projects. In a sense you could say that I ended up researching new ways to do research, and that led to giving seminars to researches for the purpose of exploring better ways of researching whatever it was they were researching.

To make a long story short, I come out of the research business with more experience in education than actually doing research. If that makes any sense.

That’s what drove me to become a non-degreed teacher. At least not degreed in teaching. I got in as a teacher based on my experience as a research engineer. Then as a teacher in an actual classroom with college level students (I don’t think I could stand to teach high school), I really felt at home. And even though as I had as many as 30 students in a class I was still able to cater to individuals, and groups of individuals. I would stick the geniuses in a corner with a really tough problem and then spend the rest of the class time helping the other students focus on what they did best.

In any case, I would love to still teach today, but it’s not possible anymore. I was even thinking that it would be nice to start a music school for the kids in the area. I would even be willing to teach it for free and create an orchestra or band or some kind of musical ensemble. The idea would just be an ‘introductory’ course in music for the purpose of the students to learn the rudiments and maybe even try different instruments with all of them ultimately learning on electronic keyboards as a starting point.

Alas, dreams cost money. And since I have no degree in music. In fact, I never even took a music class in my entire life. It would be just about impossible for anyone to back me as the ‘teacher’. They would want to get a “real” music teacher. So that takes me right out of the mix anyway.

It’s a bummer having talent in something and not being able to use it. Such a waste.

I’m just sitting here going to waste because I don’t have the credentials (or the health) to do things “officially”. And I can’t do them unofficially unless I have CASH. Something I’m sad to say I do not have.

I suppose I could try playing the lottery. I never play the lottery.

Funny how money rules the world. Even stops people from doing GOOD THINGS.

I’m not sure how much I would even need. Enough to rent a building, but a bunch of cheap keyboards, and a few other instruments. I’m sure I could do wonders with something like a hundred grand. With that kind of loot I could afford to hire a couple real music teachers to help out and just kind of oversee the project.

So pray to God to send me about $100,000 and I’ll start a local music school for kids of all ages.

How’s that? flowerforyou

Well, tell him if he wants to make something happen using me he'll have to make easy to do because I'm too old and sickly to be putting forth a lot of effort at this point in my life.

If he provides the resources I'll do what I can. But I'm in no condition to be going out on the street corner with a tin cup to start up a music school. Those days are over. frown

God's going to have to do his part, or I'm staying in bed. flowerforyou

That's the correct link. I just copied and pasted it myself and it took me right to the page.

There's not much to that page. Just a starry background, a title, "Flue & Guitar Fantasy", credits, and the music.

Maybe I should have included instructions?

Just click on the Yellow box that says (Music 1.2 MB mp3) and the music should play. Or you can right-click on the box and us Save Target As,... to download the MP3 file and play it from your hard drive. (best if you have dial-up)

You'll need an mp3 player of course. But most computers have one.

I'll see if I can update the page with clearer instructions.

It is a good link actually and a very calming, beautiful piece.

Thanks Abra! I think you are very talented. I used to play clarinet in school myself. It has been so long ago though I have just about forgotten how to read music. sad I can play a little piano too. Never learned to play chords well on it though just the melody. laugh

Abra you could probably get into teaching music through a community service type venue like an after school program, the YMCA or some other type of youth group maybe. You could even visit nursing homes or hospitals and provide entertainment for them too if your into that sort of thing. Sorry to hear your health is poor. I wish you all the best.

Where are you pasting this URL link?

If you paste it into your browsers ADDRESS BOX without quotes, (just as it is above). It should just take you straight to the page. There are no advertisements, or pop-up windows on my site. My web pages are private and only contain the content I put on them.

Have you been to any of my other pages below? They are all just different pages on my site. You’re the first person to have reported a problem getting to them.

http://www.csonline.net/designer/ideas/songs.htm

http://www.csonline.net/designer/ideas/project.htm

http://www.csonline.net/designer/ideas/heart.htm

What browser are you using? Are you sure you’re pasting the link into your browser’s ADDRESS BOX and not into a search engine box (like Google) that won’t work.

I don’t know why it isn’t working. Everyone else I’ve given it to has just commented on the music.

I don’t know what else to tell you. ohwell

HELP!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like you are typing it into a search engine like yahoo or google, etc. instead of the address bar. Working at Delta I have to help a lot of people type in delta.com and have found that sometimes they have removed their address bar somehow and are typing into a search engine bar instead. This may be the problem.

iamgeorgiagirl's photo
Wed 04/02/08 04:11 PM
If you have Internet Explorer you can change the Toolbar settings: 1. Start Internet Explorer, click View if you can see the menu options and then point to Toolbars.
2. If there is not a check mark next to Address Bar, click Address Bar to place the check mark. If there is a check mark next to Address Bar, click Address Bar to remove the check mark, and then click Address Bar to place the check mark.
3. If the Address bar is in the upper right corner and not available, right-click Address, and then click Lock the Toolbar to remove the check mark.
4. Click Address, and then drag the Address bar where you want it.

Hope this helps

You couldn't open the page at all? Or just not the music?

Maybe there's an error in the HTML code that some browswers don't like. I typed it in by hand, lemmi go check the code.

It's such a tiny page!

Could you open any of the other pages on my site? Maybe I need to call my ISP and see what's going on. I've never had people report a problem before.
