Dear God,

Please be on the lookout
for a little boy named Brandon
his mother can’t control him
and he’s acting kind of random

Spread the word to cupid
to warn the little girls
that Brandon might pull up their dress
to see what it unfurls

He’s a naughty naughty boy Lord
with a lustful sinning mind
he’s been known to sneak in ladies rooms
to get a peek at their behind

He doesn’t pay attention
and when he’s in detention
all he does is strip the girls
and hang them in suspension

So teach the boy some manners Lord
or send him a dominant b*tch
one with whip
who’ll tidy his ship
and never allow him to switch

Abra, seriously you are soo good at rhymes that you could make a fortune writing childrens books, or any book of rhymes for that matter. You should write lyrics for songwriters who have music but no lyrics.

That’s really major Jax. Seriously, he needs constant mentoring and in a positive constructive way. Not in a ‘discplined don’t-do-that’ kind of way. He needs leadership, to keep him focused but that leadership needs to be in the form of encouragement not reprimands.

Also, it’s extremely detrimental to scold him or reprimand him for getting off track. If he has adhd it’s seriously not his fault. That would be like scolding someone who has Alzheimer’s for not being able to remember things. Like as if it’s their fault.

I’m not sure what to tell you. The only real answer is that he needs a 24/7 mentor whom he trusts as a friend, but whom he also respects and looks up to. Of course, it would be impossible to provide that 24/7.

The problem with adhd is that distractions are very real. And boredom is very real too.

One thing I would suggest is to try to discover what his main interests are and get him involved with that. If he’s interested in playing any kind of music instrument that’s a really good thing because that can occupy a lot of time. The key is to keep him so busy that he doesn’t have time to be distracted. bigsmile

Find out what he wants to do and take an active part in making sure to provide the necessary means for him to do it. Especially if you can get him involved with groups of other people doing the same thing.

And diversity of interest shouldn’t be frowned upon. He’s capable of doing a lot of differnet things simultaneously and will become bored if he’s restricted to focusing only on one or two things.

It could be a real challenge for you. But his ‘disorder’ can actually be a blessing in disguise if understood and accepted. I think it’s not healthy to suggest that there is something ‘wrong’ with him. It’s better to help him to realize that there is something very ‘special’ about him. Make him feel positive about it. But at the same time try to get him to realize that he needs to make a conscious effort for his own sake to try to avoid distractions and to try to force himself to remain focused on something even when it seems boring.

How old is he?

ADD often is misdiagnosed.

Schools today are way to quick to give drugs to these children, when a change in diet will cure the problem.

My sister has a daughter who was a bad case. She was "hyperactive" and her doctors want to put her on sedatives.

My sister refused to drug her child, and found the Feingold diet that eliminated white sugar, white flour, but most important, artificial flavors and coloring in food.

Good diet, real food. Its hard in today's market to find, I know. But that will change everything.

Also extreme nutritional supplements like blue green algae, etc.
are good to add.

The problems children have today are hormones in the meat, poison in the food, high fructose corn syrup in everything.

Too much sugar, to much processed foods, too many artificial things.

Eat real food.

Real food... yes... I wish I could find it...

Move him to the country, if at all possible... outdoors and/or woods are marvelous for inquisitive children with focus issues...

Marvelous...

Jax,

I had, or have it too. also a very high IQ.

I was fortunate with a few good teachers that taught me how to critically think on different levels simultaneously.

At the time, there wasn't a label for it. I didn't need a doctor, nor was I a problem child (directly) but I had to always be doing something. Anything.

I have learned how to relax and take it easy, and it subsides over time.

Perhaps your son could be eligible for grants and scholarships to keep his active mind focused.

I don't know to what severity this trait is splinterring your son's attention, but staying busy and stimulated intellectually will help, as Abra pointed out.

AAnd as Jeannie points out, a healthy diet is calming. Good nutrition. Veggies and fruits and low carbs. I know its expensive but it helps and will calm him. Considerably. I know of a superfood. 4 bucks a meal. solid nutrition. brain and body food.

Until he is old enough to race.laugh laugh laugh

You’re in REAL GOOD SHAPE Jax!!!

Thank God for the miracle already!

You can deal with this problem at this age.

Thank God you didn’t discover it until he was in his early teens or you would have had a real monster on your hands.

I agree with Jeanniebean on trying to deal with his diet a bit. The drugs the doctors give him (if any) are going to be more like an artificial crutch. Read up on diets for adhd.

I still highly recommend keeping him BUSY, especially with things he shows an interest in. Try and submerge him in the things he enjoys doing. This way his distractions will be more limited to just being distracted between the different aspects of the one larger thing he is immersed in. He can still accomplish great things that way.

If he doesn’t get into things deeply enough his distractions will tend to make him move onto different kinds of things altogether and then he won’t be able to focus at all or accomplish anything. That fact that adhd makes people lose interest quick or become distracted easily means that you need to submerse them in lot of complexity.

I have adhd myself. I have always had problems sticking to one thing. Recently, when my mother died I became interested in playing music. So I bought an electronic keyboard. But that become boring after a few weeks. Then I bought a violin, and continued to play both instruments. Then a classical guitar. Then a flute and a clarinet, and a trumpet and a banjo and a mandolin, etc.

It might sound like I’m not focusing, but I am. I’m focusing on learning MUSIC. laugh

Now, before your house ends up looking like a music store (like mine does) you need to find out what you boy is really interested in. Then once you’ve discovered that. Allow himself to drown himself it in. That way his distractions can all be associated with the one larger thing that he’s learning about.

If you need money see Jeanneibean.

I just give ideas. laugh

I am also looking into guitar lessons as he wants to learn electric guitar.

Too bad we aren’t neighbors, I’d have that kid playing a mean machine in no time at all. He’d be a rock star by the time he’s nine.

If he takes conventional lesson by a conventional teacher he might loose interest real quick. It’s such a bummer having skills and knowledge to be able to help people but not living in a situation where it's possible to help them. frown

thats okay james.your heart is in the right place.
They guy i saw was on craigslist and is very open to whatever the child wants to play, rock or whatever.Brandon's main thing though is art in any form.i spend so much money on crafts, paint etc.He actually wants to be a movie maker when he gets older and do special effects.I let him use my video camera but after 10 films featuring his behind and screaming ,I felt we needed a break..:oh well: Anyway I have him enrolled in a baking class.Believe it or not there are 10 boys in the class and one girl .He loves it.
right now the medicine is only for school so he can focus on his studies and helps with frustration.I don't give it on weekends.
I don't have many sweets in the house but unfortuately he's a grazer so sit down meals don't happen in our house.(i'm the same).
Well another school week looms.wish us luck.I have been reading a lot of Erma Bombeck.she makes me feel better as do my friends here.

and anoasis everyone says he is just like me..its true.bigsmile
