Topic: Journalism & mainstream media | |

What is the state of mainstream media in your country? Does the conventional (press & radio/television) media live up to your expectations in your part of the world?
In our part of the world, we have noticed a steep decline in the standard of reporting over the past 6 to 7 years! Articles have become more of "views" than news. We have also seen the advent of "fake news", which when "fact checked" gets exposed! More often, than not, such articles are driven by an agenda which always hurts the interests of the common citizen. Though this has been too desperate since the last 6-7 years, I will say that this trend took off much earlier when mainstream media houses became dependent on corporate finance. News was hijacked by non issues and the "make-believe"! Corporate funding of the media also plays an ulterior motive of arm twisting the lawmakers and thereby running the show. This is summarily the state of affairs here! How is it in your part of the world? |

A new Gallup poll has revealed that Americans have a consistent lack of trust in media, with only 16% Of American’s trusting "mainstream media's TV "news".
Only 21% of respondents said they had “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in newspapers. The US Congress even fared worse, garnering just 12% confidence/trust. IMO this is evidence that most ORDINARY, independent thinking, citizens aren't as gullible as the ELITISTS in the media and the government believe. When people hear politicians and media personalities, who pretend to be disseminating facts rather than opinions, use the EXACT same key words, phrases and terminology it becomes obvious they are parroting from the same play book. I used to believe that everyone in the "news" media should be required to declare if they are registered as a "Democrat" or "Republican" voter at the end of their reporting. Now it's so obvious which political party they align with it's no longer needed for anyone with more deductive reasoning than a doorknob to know what party they align with. |

Are you in the USA Kevin? You never mentioned. I'm guessing yes as you've described the USA perfectly. The only thing you left out is that the news is COMPLETELY, TOTALLY, one-sided with liberal, left leaning (that's being very polite) agenda's being pushed. Some people dislike Fox News but are people so ignorant they don't even want ONE other viewpoint other than the lefts? Especially since Fox is more often right than wrong and will show what the others will not!
I pretty much disagree with everything on the left but even I will "watch" CNN, MSNBC, etc. and all those just to get the "other" side. |

The word insane applies here, even though they have less viewers than the show, 90 day fiancé , they( cnn, msnbc) insist on promoting fake news, partial news, or worse yet, not even covering news stories that could be vital to the citizens if it makes the dems look bad. Not to mention the kind of people they hire , perverts, racists and disgraced former FBI agents. Smart people know the MSM is basically a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party . They are funded by George Soros and the Deep State. My guess is they are secretly chomping at the bit that Donald Trump runs again in 2024 so they have something to report on( orange man bad).

After researching the most trust-worthy news sources, it appears Associated Press (AP), Reuters, ABC News, CBS, PBS, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) all show up consistently as top sources.
What do you think? It’s also notable that among top hard left is CNN and hard right is Fox News, both often move away from factual journalism. |

@Smartazzjohn: It is indeed a sad picture, isn't it? It's okay for the reporters, to be supporters, but let them be reporters when they are on the job. This is bare minimum work ethics. Now, in such a scenario, where do the people get the facts from? We are paying for it, ain't we?

@Mr Cuddle buddy: Hi, no I am not in the US now! I have stated facts from India! I so follow US news very closely though, and yes, as you have rightly mentioned the situation is terribly similar!
You have raised another very significant point, that of knowing the other party's views! Yes, that's wot a democracy is about, that's wot federalism is about. However, corporate funding of the media and also the parties, cares only two hoots for it (federalism, democracy)! |

@Bart: You have made a very vital point. News about incidents, policies that effect us in our everyday life is missing! Where do we go for that? And why should we pay up - directly and/or indirectly for such "fiction"?

@Bastet127: I do follow AP & Reuters to cross check certain news, periodically! Sadly, I cannot do that on a regular basis! Yes, they seem authentic but, the dis belief has reached levels where I have to again do fact checks!
The CNN & FOX divide is now so well known that they have become more of "tabloids" than news! They are entitled to their views, but that shouldn't encroach into the "news hours". |

It's exactly as Thierry Baudet, a Dutch politician, has said: the media & journalism is no longer the rebel that questions the so called authority and brings things to light.
They have become the mouthpiece of the ones they used to -and are supposed to- question. They're now owned & controlled by authority and I think most don't even know any better anymore I'm not sure when that changed, but I think quite some time ago. It's now up to us to question things and investigate what's going on which used to be what journalists did. Thank goodness we have the internet. Maybe the decline began when the internet was introduced? Would make sense. Although I did notice the censure and distortion of Dutch news before that, when I lived in Jakarta in 1985-1987. |

What is Journalism?
In simple words, news reporting is journalism. Based on the medium, there are three categories of journalism: 1. Online journalism, which uses online newswires, blogs, etc. 2. Print media which use printed material like newspapers, magazines, etc. 3. Electronic media which use radio, television, etc. But fact hardly we get a proper stream of actual stuff, mostlu are edited an becomed a entertaining of for PRT of thier channels. It's too long itselt a debate in short |

Biden hasn’t given the FBI permission, they are considering allowing the IRS to receive total debit and credits for bank accounts with balances over $600 in hopes of catch more tax fraud. It would be one total for annual debits and one total for annual credits, no details. - The school boards have asked the DOJ to look into increases in violence at schools due to allowing transgender student in sports, which the Biden administration is looking into. - I’m not following the Hunter Biden issue, I’m sure I will hear about when it’s all said and done. You see, even Fox can put a spin on a story that send people down a rabbit hole, when the actual information is readily available on line at more trustworthy sources. And just for the record I am not a fan of Biden or Harris, and apparently many others are also disappointed in his ... leadership. |
