Newsflash, ANY 'ism' sucks, when you're on the DOWN side of it, wanting what some other person has, be it money, age, class, white skin, religion,

and while it might please you to denigrate the ' rich old upper class white protestant' people, it is THEY that patronise your business, or pay taxes to provide your unemployment/ public service wages or put their money into factories to give you a job to go to.

it's a good idea not to antagonise people upon whom you are dependant.

Well, the complaint is that it's about group oppression. Society is the way that it is and even if you give everyone equal rights, that isn't enough because there's still a dominant culture. In the business world, for instance, it has been said that the qualities that get you respect are the "male" qualities. There was a study done where they found that a lot of asians were not getting jobs because they weren't making eye contact at job interviews. The thing about equality is that it is hard to square with diversity and you can have all of the freedom to do things that rich people can do but it's worthless if you don't actually have the money to pay for it. Thus, as giving other groups the same rights as your rich old white guys has failed to eliminate oppression, those groups are now demanding additional rights because that's the only way that they think that there will ever be true equality of opportunity.

more precisely, people promote stereotypes of one class or another

ie,, rich are greedy (its greed that is the issue, but it gets linked to the wealth though rich and poor alike can have the character flaw)


or

impoverished, benefits recipients are lazy and non productive(its laziness and non productivity at issue, but it gets linked to those poor or on benefits although rich and poor alike can be lazy and non productive)

I constantly hear people say things like "old rich white men run the world" and they blame them for everything wrong with society because most people with high-paying jobs happen to be white guys. So I guess they don't want any white guys to be given oppotunities to make money?

I might suggest changing the gang you hang with Mandy.. cuz they don't seem to be bringing out your better YOU.. I say that because of your use of "constantly" hearing people say bad things... just a perception

if I might interject a few things here though..
first off... I wouldn't want a bunch of 20 year olds running the world.. they lack (for the most part) the experience & maturity to make the immediately needed decisions (that typically only comes from someone with age & years of experience)
2ndly.. you generally can't walk out of univerisity expecting to be the president of ANY company, you typically have to work your way up the ladder, which takes time as you gain experience (and yes.. there ARE rare exceptions to this rule.. Zuckerberg being one of them)
and 3rdly.. isn't your current president black AND fairly young???

and lastly.. if you look at pics of the UN (leaders of the world) they're a) not all white and b) not all men!

well, predominately old rich white men DO run the US, but old white men founded it,, so no biggy there


I believe politicians get blamed (whatever their race) for everything wrong in society

old rich white men become the face for greed,, though greedy men can come in any race

just like single mothers become the face of welfare or laziness, even though there are many types of welfare and laziness , in many income brackets, across marital status and race and gender

its a shame we end up with stereotypes, but then again, its often the old white men that stereotype the impoverished classes too

so it ends up being turnabout is fair play sort of thing,,
