Hey Athena, having a better time this time round might be difficult, my last visit was awesome. There are some incredibly beautifully minded people in this world and I have been blessed with meeting a few.
I cant wait till Friday when I will be setting off to meet my good friend in South Africa, which incidentally all started with me sending a hug on this site. I believe life is about no regrets, its too easy for people to say "that's to hard" or "thats to far" most things in life are possible with a little effort and a lot of willpower. The bottom line is if you don't try you don't get.

wooooooo
South Africa IS a very country to visit.....it has both the Very modern and the very African side!! I loved it-i stayed there for four months!

Wow, Newbie, did you get any pictures? Were there wild animals within seeing distance?

I go to visit my daughter and her family in April, they live in Perth, Western Australia. It is the other side of the world from here in the UK, yet after only 24 hours from leaving my home I arrive at their home. The journey time never fails to impress me, the world really is a small place, when we can be the other side of it in a day on public transport.

How far would I travel to meet someone new? Well, I think the greater the distance we were apart, the greater the time I would need to spend in getting to know them before travelling to meet them. I would need to be convinced in my own mind that there was a very good chance this could be the one for me, and if so, distance no object. However, I would add that I do look close to home, I am not looking for a long distance relationship, but you can never say never. Regarding just friends, I think it would be as penpals only.

I like your style, Duttoneer... getting to know someone well before incurring the expense of the long distance first meet, makes sense...

[AAAH..BLESS YOUR CUTE COTTON SOCKS]

I was 2500 miles from my mingle wench. After lots of chatting, mingling, phone calls and flights...I discovered it was much better to pack up my dog, my clothes, my bank account...jump into my pimp wagon...drive 5 days and just live with the girl of my dreams.

I know that very few people gotts the cajones to take the chance....I am glad I did.

I ain't never been happier.

So....I guess my answer is 2500 miles.

That's an inspiring story by chocolatepussy. I hate having to travel to the gas station usually. Shouldn't the single women be out walking their dogs past my house or something?

laugh that's a good one, Jesse... just sit there waiting and watching for them to come to you... sounds like a winning proposition... I wonder why nobody else thought of that before... slaphead

There was a time when I was younger and would have went anywhere to meet a woman, but not anymore. She would have to be truly extraordinary for me to consider moving now.

Moving is one thing, but would you travel just to meet her in person and spend a little quality time together to see if making the big "who moves" to be with who decision is worth the sacrifice?

Like I said, I would if she was extraordinary. Nowadays that's the only way I would spend the effort to go where some gal is. I've had too many bad relationships to waste gas, money and time just to go somewhere to have another one.

I understand your position, I think the same way... but... how would you know how extraordinary she is until you meet face to face? Not arguing, you've just piqued my curiosity...

I can tell a lot about someone via online and over the phone, enough anyway to get a sense of who they are. Plus I'm always praying and asking God to give me guidance in this area, and so far He's made the flaws pretty easy to spot. I've also started asking Him recently if I'm even suppose to be with someone at all. I know in the bible Paul says that it would be better if we were like him (alone), for then we would be focusing more on God than someone else.

But... in Genesis He tells us that He created woman to be with man so he is not alone... so he has a helper by his side... you never know what the future holds...

I'm 52. I'm pretty sure if there was a woman I was meant to be with He would have brought her along by now.

I truly do feel the weight of the doubt you have, dm... I think we all feel it at some time or other in our lives, and then when we least expect it...  collide...
