We connect with some pretty awesome folks here on Mingle… knowing that platonic friendships can be closer and last longer than some personal relationships, we’re here also seeking out souls just to bond with as friends… and once we do, how far are we willing to go to meet in person? I have an 80pd male dog that I can’t leave at home while I’m gone, so if I traveled to meet a new friend, I’d have to bring Hammer with me… also, if my new friend lived across the country, because of my deteriorated spinal condition, I can only drive about 8 hrs at a stretch before I’d have to stop and get a room to rest… but, I would drive my car and pay for our expenses to make the round trip… To what extent would you go too, if you really wanted to meet and spend time with a new acquaintance? Gas aint cheap. And neither are plane tickets. It's not like I can't hop in a car or plane to go meet the other person, but I'm tired of being the one that makes the effort all the time. The way I see it, going across states lines just for the purpose of meeting someone to me, is like asking me to give up one of my limbs. Did it in the past, but I'm not going to do it anymore. Prince Charming better bring his butt over to where I'm at for a change if he wants to see where it's going to go. I quite understand... and you're certainly right about the expense for a round trip... but I haven't learned my lesson yet.. usually that's the hard way... so after I've done it... we'll compare notes... and you can say to me... "I told you so, goof..." |

I have a friend in New Zealand that I wish to visit, and it looks like I will. So i would go quite a ways. come and visit us while you are there, we are just next door in Australia. |

Hmmmm my hubby is 20 000 ks away, so i guess thats as far as i would travel. Last time I did the trip it was 5 planes and 36 hours just to get from his house to mine.
But he's worth it |

IF you have the chance to go...do it, it is a beautiful country. I was there for 18 days and it was not enough time to do everything we wanted to do. I actually went for love BUT 9000 miles and lots of water between us, it just didn't work out for us. IF we both would have been here, I know it would have been a different story. |

I love to travel :) I have drivin from texas to fl several times to see one of my best friends. i have drivin as far as 5 hours for a date. :) but recently due to finances and lack of transportation i havent traveled much. As far as a relationship with someone other than friendship i prefer to look locally because i dont plan to relocate and because of my current financial and transportation issues.

I love to travel too... and I know what you mean about the expenses, I can't believe gas prices are headed back up again... I also like your plan about only dating locally... |

As long as it's within my own country, as any other mileage just wouldn't be very practical for me. I used to date a guy from down South. I live in the North East. We were quite the match, but with him being a nightclub DJ, his sleep was all skewered, his body clock kept playing up. It made him too grumpy in the end. We had different waking patterns. *shrug* :)

i think the fabulous thunderbirds set the benchmark as to how far to go for a relationship http://youtu.be/30P1JWoAjDM I would walk ten miles on my hands and knees Ain't no doubt about it baby it's you I aim to please I'd wrestle with a lion and a grizzly bear It's my life baby but I don't care For you baby I would swim the sea Nothing I'd do for you that's too tuff for me I'd put out a burning building with a shovel and dirt And not even worry about getting hurt I'd work twenty four hours, seven days a week Just so I could come home and kiss your cheek I love you in the morning and I love you at noon I love you in the night and take you to the moon I'd lay in a pile of burning money that I've earned and not even worry about getting burned I'd climb the Empire State Building, fight Muhammad Ali Just to have you baby close to me |

Years ago I hopped on a plane and traveled to a state (I'd never been to before) to meet a female "penpal" in person...My husband and I had a gift store in CA at the time. And I became friends with one of our vendors through letters and phone calls....We both felt a strong urge to meet and spend time together in-person...At the time it was easier for me to fly-out to her area so I did..We got along great and had fun together...So I'm sure I'd be open to getting together in-person with someone if I felt a strong urge and had the time and means to travel.

I can just picture you having some really awesome weekends dancing the nights away... I would have loved that myself |

Let's see...
I used to drive a commute to work everyday that was an hour 1way for a really good job. I have traveled out of state for sporting events to see my favorite team. I have traveled out of state to go shopping at outlet malls just to buy a designer handbag. I have traveled out of state to be in a wedding, and wore a hideous dress for a very good friend. Hhhmmm....would I travel for love? HELL YES!!! |

He would keep a small box, and fill it with his flourescent wrist bands he'd worn from every nightclub. I laughed at how many he managed to collect. There was definitely a big collection. |
