Topic: Your child is smoking pot | |

not everyone agrees that is the reason it's illegal. my brother in law is an advocate for making it legal. when he retires...he is going back to smoking it. so YES i do understand all sides...but I am strong in my opinion on this.
lie it or not or whether you think it's illegal for whatever reason....isn't really the point...it's illegal...end of story and i have taught my son to respect the laws and rules. if he doesn't agree then work to change it. but if he breaks them...he needs to know he will face the music for his actions. but pot is a crutch just like any other things out there. my son runs or finds another way to relax and deal with stress and problems. |

pot is just an intoxicant like many others
if a person allows drinking alcohol but condemns pot then they are just trying to force their own preference on people |

Well, since you had to ask that first question, it's obvious that you don't know me well on here. I'm not stuck in my own little world, btw. Like I said before, I've worked in a drug rehab. I have a friend in recovery and have attended NA meetings with them. I will not condone allowing my child to smoke pot. It is not good for a child's developing brain, it's illegal, and they need to develop their own coping skills. |

we have gone over this soo many times before
and everyone is entitled to their own opinions :I'd like to say before i embark on my newest journey in reply to my Friend Lee who began this thread Your Child is smoking pot My reply is ...Yes....a couple of them do and so do many other kids.. and what else is new ??? I am sorry that others have had such terrible problems with hard core drug & hard core alcohol use and abuse but it doesn't happen to everyone my Kids are grown and they are very much on their own and they are doing more than fine and their track record proves it so people can talk about this or that but the proof is in the pudding & our Pudding is just fine despite such adversity in so many ways We have been losing so many people to death and my Children lost their own Daddy to Death and still they remain on the path & are doing okay they are doing fine and had a history of partaking in sacred herb sooo not everyone finds herb to be negative and our lives speak for themselves and i hope that all people's lives go as great and i pray that everyone finds balance & happiness in their lives |

I see it in my own neighborhood. 20 yr olds still trying to get through highschool because all they want to do is smoke pot all day. but people seem to forget....as of right now it is ILLEGAL. until that changes, then i won't encourage my son to do something illegal Don't give them an excuse as to why they are just plain lazy. I've known hundreds of people that went through and graduated school on time even with being high. This is what is wrong, now we have a patsy to blame everyone not doing anything on...and that is exactly what marijuana is, a drug that we blame when people are just plain out lazy. When sober people do it we call it lazy, when someone that smokes weed does it we call them a stoner...see where I'm going? |

Their own parents say this (but do nithing about it) It's a patsy, they or the parents are using it as an excuse. If they were just lazy then they would be called lazy, now they have a substance to blame. So now they are stoners. Again; sober, lazy...high, stoner. Can't have it both ways it is either one or the other, we can't just blame something because it is luxoriously there. |

Fear, What I posted pertained to children. I have full confidence in the NIDA, btw. They are a great organization. Everybody can be bought, sold, and traded. Not that I codone children smoking pot in anyway, just saying that facts have been paid for with money more than once in history. I can spot facts that are biased - on both sides. I worked in drug rehab at the VA Hospital. I've been to NA meetings with a friend. Winx, I have to say this, and you probably won't like it, but I'm going to. Let me start first by saying I think you sound like a wonderful mother and I don't disagree with anything you have said AS A MOTHER. However, I think you are rather stereotypical for someone who supposedly works for a hospital, has worked for rehabs, etc. Just because you work with addicts and alcoholics, and have attended a few meetings with friends, aquaintances etc...does NOT make you an expert on the matter. You still lack the experience. Now, your ignorance on some matters has gotten rather annoying. Let me clarify some things as a past meth addict myself. Alcohol, cigarrets and Marijuana never led me to try meth. ME, MYSELF, and I LED ME TO TRY METH! Period. The problem with the "program" is this: A few people are addicts, A few people are Alcoholics, A Few people are dually diagnosed with both. Now, because the people with both can't do either they automatically assume that people with one or the other cannot either. So how do we keep the dually diagnosed from fallin off the wagon? Brainwash everyone that if you do one or the other, you can't do anything else or you will fall off the wagon too. B.S!! The other problem: Susie is an alcoholic, she goes out and smokes some pot and then ends up drinking. Susie is still somewhat in denial about her alcohol problem and she needs a scapegoat for her drinking. Susie claims Pot made her drink because she wasn't thinking properly. Now Susie is an addict too because she can't do drugs without drinking. The Reality: If Susie was working her program, the pot wouldn't have made any difference because Susie would still have said no to drinking because she knows she has a problem. Let's get even more in depth here. I am allergic to asprin. I know it makes me sick and uncomfortable so I don't take it ever. I am drinking one night, or smoking pot and I get a headache and someone offers me an asprin. Do I take the asprin because I am not "thinking right". No. I say I'm sorry Asprin makes me very sick, I can't have it. If you can say no to something that will harm or kill you while intoxicated, you can say no to anything else that is bad for you too. I have drank a few times, and I've smoked pot over the years, NEVER EVER have I had a lapse in judgement and accepted Meth, even when offered to me. It's like the asprin. I know it's bad for me and leads to bad things, so I say no I can't do that stuff. Why go into this big long spiel? Simple. Winx, it's people like you who enable the people like suzie to say the pot made me take something I shouldn't have. Stereotypes are horrible and can cause people who don't know any better to be misinformed. It also causes manipulative and connviving people to have yet one more excuse to add to their entourage of reasons they do not have to take responsibility for the things they do. There is no such thing as a gateway drug. People just need something to blame for their irresponsible actions in life. |

There is no such thing as a gateway drug. People just need something to blame for their irresponsible actions in life. SilkieButterfly, You don't know what I've done in my past so you don't know if I lack experience in this area. I also have a person close to me that is an addict and is in early recovery AGAIN. I've learned from that too. I belong to Nar-Anon. I am not a snob that stereotypes. I know people that have smoked pot and have not gone onto harder things. I also know people that have smoked pot and did go onto harder things. Btw, dual diagnosis doesn't mean that one is an alcoholic and an addict. It's means that one is an addict and/or alcoholic that has other problems too - depression, schizophrenia, etc. NA's thoughts - to stay off your drug of choice, don't drink or do any drugs. They consider alcohol to be a drug. Btw, the topic is of this thread is about what one would do if they found out that their child was smoking pot. That's what I've been talking about. I'm not budging on my thoughts about my child. I hope that they don't smoke pot because it is not good for a child's developing brain, it's illegal, and they need to develop their own coping skills. |

some people may not have had negative experiences with pot....some have. some have hallucinated, become paranoid and other things. even if these are a small percentage...it still happens and for kids...i don't want to take the chance.

You just found out that your child is smoking pot. What do you do? Not much we can do is there? |
