Rapunzel,

What does all of that have to do with parents not wanting their children to smoke pot?

I want my child to make it though high school without drugs or alcohol. If I didn't want that, I would not be doing my job as a parent.

No parent should allow their kids to smoke if they have any control over it(which isnt always the case)

Smoking pot and trying to learn, is a bad combination. Your concentration is diminshed and your thoughts are scattered. And of course, it generally makes you lethargic and lazy.

Again....different strokes for different folks. Personally it didn't really effect my learning skills or concentration, and it didn't make me dumb (like so many people generalize). I smoked weed every day of my junior and senior year, and I graduated mid-term with a GPA of 3.0

However...it DID turn me into an unmotivated couch potato. But I was already half way there anyway.laugh

But..you never know... you might have received a 3.5 or higher without it. You might have pushed yourself harder.

and then again...you could have gotten really into junk food frown

Yes, we do have to choose our habits carefully. That's why my house has healthy foods for my child and my child is enrolled in sports. That's my child is enrolled in DARE so they learn about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

I don't want my child to be obese, using drugs or alcohol or cigs.

I will do my best to not let that happen.

Parents want a better life for their children then they had.

Good points Winx and Dan. And you're probably right. I possibly would have been able to get even better grades, be more motivated, and get a decent scholarship to a prestigious university.

Who knows? I could have been a doctor prescribing marijuana to patients. Or a scientist/botanist growing it.

Umm...it's illegal too.

Rapunzel...as i have said before....the doctors suggested i use it as well. people use it for medicine all the time. i don't think anyone disputes that (as long as it's legal.) if it's not legal...then you face the consequences if caught...that is your choice as an adult....but children are different

my son wants to be a cop and doesn't want to screw it up by something illegal

btw....found this

Rose,

My brother works in a hospital. He can't do drugs because if he gets arrested, he would lose his license to work. My field is the same way.

That link shows more reasons why growing children should not be getting high.

in texas...it's a BIG no no

What are Texas' Laws on Marijuana Possession?
Texas has a reputation as being extremely hard on drug use and possession, and it is well earned. Minor marijuana possession is not decriminalized in Texas, as it is in several states, which means that even a miniscule amount can land you 6 months in jail.

Like many other states, Texas divies up punishments based on the weight of the drug possessed or sold. The possession of up to a pound of marijuana (this includes very minor amounts) will generally carry a sentence of 6 months to 2 years in a state jail and a $2,000 - $10,000 fine. However, if you have no prior felony convictions and are arrested with up to a pound, a Texas judge must impose a sentence of probation with drug treatment (for a duration at the judges discretion). The judge can also waive the fines, in this case.

That is where the leniency ends, however. For the possession of 1 - 5 lbs, there is no probation, and a minimum sentence of 6 months will be imposed. This will also be considered a "state jail felony," (which is a Texan creation meant to help with prison over-crowding). This means it will count as a felony on your record, but you will be sentenced to a minimum security prison with non-violent offenders.

After the five pound limit, the court will assume you are a major trafficker, and the penalties increase rapidly (these felonies are not of the "state-jail" variety):

5 - 50 lbs: 2 - 10 years, $10,000 fine
50 lbs - 1 ton: 2 - 20 years, $10,000 fine
1 ton+ : 5 - 99 years, $50,000 fine

You are absolutely right that pot is not necessarily the worst thing that a child could be doing.

But however you look at it, it is better that they dont smoke it.

As it is for adults.

Well, Dan ...please hear me out flowerforyou

okay >

I have such bad injuries sad

the doctors wanted me on a maintainence program frown noway frown

of morphine and then of oxycontin frown

when i developed tolerances to the morphine ohwell

as a Mother and a Grandmother i have responsibilities big time flowerforyou

ad i refused to allow myself to become a legal zombie...noway

Pot mellows me and helps me cope with my injuries happy

and still be very coherent flowerforyou

and if more people would use pot smokin for injuries \\drinker

instead of the hard core stuff the legal drug pushers give us , devil

we would all be much better off as a human species flowerforyou

I would rather use pot as medication

than allow myself to become so vapid on powerful narcotics noway scared noway

and no one can debate me on that one ,

cause it is as cut and dry as you can get flowerforyou

Smoking it for medicinal purposes is another matter. If the positive health benefits outweigh its potential risks, you are right, it is not debatable.

For myself, and the best part of adult smokers, it is not smoked for medicinal reasons. The health risks for me far exceed the health benefits.

my sister has been on morphine drips and now takes the meds they give for 3rd degree burn victims. if anyone qualifies for it...it's her. but neither of us can smoke it....and neither of us would be ok if our kids did.

her husband (former pot head and when he retires wants to go back) won't let his kids do it either.

what adults do is not the same for kids to do. adults are responsible for their actions. adults (in most cases) are responsible for their kids actions

Nope, haven't said that yet in this thread. That is a personal choice, I just find it sad that most parents would rather lead with a voice rather than by example...
