isn't that what parents are supposed to do???? teach the kids right from wrong? teaching them from our mistakes?

Believe it or not, I was totally against drugs for years. My brother smoked pot, and I was always giving him sh!t about it. I knew the dangers and issues involving drug use as a child...so I was always against it. Then one day without any kind of peer pressure...more out of curiosity, I decided to try marijuana, and I realized it wasn't as bad as everyone said. I never got dependent on it. I admit, it did make me want to experiment with LSD, but I never got dependent on that either.
BTW...I was exposed to drugs at a very young age. My mom and her friends would have parties where people were getting high. But yet...I was STILL against it for the rest of my childhood. This is from my personal experience. Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone has the same mindset and willpower. |

Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone has the same mindset and willpower. good post....but it would be irresponsible for a parent to allow it IMO I agree. My mom certainly didn't approve when she found out I started smoking weed. But, she knew that there was nothing she could do about it, because I was a stubborn little brat. So...instead, she sat me down and said if you feel MUST smoke pot, I would rather you do that than drink. Mainly because my fathers side of the family is notorious for being hardcore alcoholics...so in a weird way she was looking out for my better interest. Lesser of two evils. I wish I would have listened to her, since I HAVE had issues with alcoholism since. ![]() |

I want my child to make it though high school without drugs or alcohol. If I didn't want that, I would not be doing my job as a parent. No parent should allow their kids to smoke if they have any control over it(which isnt always the case) Smoking pot and trying to learn, is a bad combination. Your concentration is diminshed and your thoughts are scattered. And of course, it generally makes you lethargic and lazy. |

Personally it didn't really effect my learning skills or concentration, and it didn't make me dumb (like so many people generalize). I smoked weed every day of my junior and senior year, and I graduated mid-term with a GPA of 3.0 However...it DID turn me into an unmotivated couch potato. But I was already half way there anyway. ![]() |

I have smoked pot myself practically every day for the past ten years, so i understand the drug very well although i never did it when i was in education. Its not going to have a severe impact for everybody, but in general terms, its going to have negative impact. |

Good points Winx and Dan. And you're probably right. I possibly would have been able to get even better grades, be more motivated, and get a decent scholarship to a prestigious university.
Who knows? I could have been a doctor prescribing marijuana to patients. Or a scientist/botanist growing it. ![]() |

and I choose to teach my child right from wrong. and if he does wrong...he will face consequences
pot does relax you (some more extreme than others). the doctors suggested i try pot but i had a bad reaction so i couldn't do it. but it was for the intent of relaxing me and helping the muscles relax |

so because it's not AS BAD....it's ok to let the kids smoke it? Nobody is saying it's ok. But, if it happens (and it's a good possibility it will...something like 3 out of 5 people try pot at least once) don't think it's a huge deal and the end of the world. There are FAR worse issues you could be dealing with. Like if your kids were into gangbanging, stealing, violence, robbery, etc.... |
