i try to lead by example. but i don't always do well at that. my son has never seen me drink or drunk. he lectures me about smoking because i taught him it's a hard habit to break and not healthy....and i'm actually trying to quit too Good, the best leaders led by example. Hopefully you can quit that bad habit soon. ![]() |

if you have no problem with kids smoking pot....sad hope the cops or CPS doesn't find out Did I say that? Nope, haven't said that yet in this thread. That is a personal choice, I just find it sad that most parents would rather lead with a voice rather than by example... I lead by voice and by example. I am my child's mentor. |

i think most parents want better for their children. they don't want the kids to mke the same mistakes we did. and that includes teaching them to follow the law (whether you agree or not) or you face the punishment. But i know i would NEVER condone or blow off something my child has done that was wrong. I may have been strict with him....but he is a great young man now.

my advice: tell the kid that you experimented once also, and that you learned better. tell the kid that if you find out that (s)he does it again - you'll call the cops
then...actually call the cops. ask them to send someone down to scare the **** outta the kid you can also arrange for a tour of the jail - that'll scare him/her straight |

Rapunzel...i don't think we are saying it's ok to get drunk....do other drugs or anything like that. i would feel the same way if my son did those things as i would if he smoked pot.
as far as drinking...i don't drink in front of my son (who is 18) and i certainly don't get drunk around him. but i am 37 and he is underage....there IS a difference. as long as i don't drink and drive....which i don't...OR do something illegal while drinking....then i'm not breaking the law you seem to think that it's ok since it's "not as bad" as other things, but you kep forgetting that it is ILLEGAL. unless it is prescribed by a doctor...it is still ILLEGAL. just as underage drinking is ILLEGAL....driving drunk is ILLEGAL. AND I DON'T WANT MY SON TO DO THESE THINGS AT ALL. |

A lot of states have decriminalized possession of small amounts and quite a few have completly done away with illegalization. |

what states have done away with it completely? decriminalized does NOT mean it's legal
Decriminalization: The state has decriminalized marijuana to some degree. Typically, decriminalization means no prison time or criminal record for first-time possession of a small amount for personal consumption. The conduct is treated like a minor traffic violation. |

and http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=4516 you can look up your state to law what each state says about it. i didn't find age resctrictions or that it legal (except with a doctor's prescription) |

I think it is 18 to get a tax stamp, tax stamps are really quite stupid but they are on the law books. |

Marijuana Tax Stamp Laws And Penalties
State Tax Stamp Data “No taxation without representation” was the rally cry of advocates of American independence in the eighteenth century. Today, tens of thousands of cannabis consumers utter a similar cry over the selective and inappropriate enforcement of illicit drug taxes. In twenty US states, those who possess cannabis or other illegal drugs are legally required to purchase and affix state-issued stamps onto his or her contraband. The total cost of the tax is generally determined by the quantity of contraband possessed. Unlike typical criminal statutes prohibiting the possession and sale of controlled substances, drug tax stamp laws primarily assess financial penalties on the defendant for noncompliance. On occasion, criminal sanctions may also be imposed. Although nearly half of all US states have marijuana tax stamp laws on the books, few citizens observe them. Most individuals are unaware that such laws exist in their state; others fear that complying with it will incriminate their behavior. Because of this widespread noncompliance, drug tax stamps – unlike so-called “sin taxes” on alcohol or tobacco – do not collect state tax revenue at the customer’s “point of purchase.” Rather, the legislative intent of drug tax laws is to impose an additional penalty – tax evasion – upon drug offenders after they are arrested and criminally charged with a drug violation. In some states such as Georgia, failure to comply with the state tax law may result in a nominal misdemeanor penalty. However, in other states such as Minnesota, failure to comply with the state’s drug tax law may result in a defendant facing an additional fine of up to $14,000 and seven years in jail. this doesn't make it legal...but you are right...doesn't make sense. Basically the state wants a cut of the money for something illegal |
