Topic: Does the punishment fit the crime?

Hummmmmmmmm yeah and they have toliet pappered houses for years too now it is considered against the law and you will be fined for it.

It still gives no reasons for their actions sorry they knew it was wrong. And common sense would tell them that actions would be taken against them.

Just like when your growing up and you do something wrong at home and get punished for it. You know as soon as you do it you were wrong and most likely you will be punished for it. Its called tough love parents do these things hopefully to teach them to do right or at least think about the reactions it will cause.

Yeah I think the actions are a bit harsh myself think they should be expelled from school for 3 days and communty service on clean up for a couple of weeks.

Myself would hate to see ones not get to walk across that stage.

But .... this is not the first time something like this has happened and the same punishment been used.

I do see your point, but it's hard for me to compare a water balloon to anything more than a water balloon and simple fun. I often received tough love when tough love was due, but never over a water balloon. We are talking about teachers that are a part of your lives for four years or more, that have hopefully had an impact on you in some positive way, that you'll probably never see again. For them not to take it all in fun with the students, that have hopefully touched their lives as well, is where I see the problem.

Are you all kidding me???

Didn't anyone here have waterballon fights in school? We had a watergun day the last day of school when I was a kid. I'm sure the custodian hated it.

It's freaking water people. They didn't shoot anyone. No blood, no foul, at least that's the way we played in school. After four years of high school if a teenager can't throw a water ballon at a teacher they may or may not have liked, then I don't know what's becoming of this country.

Oh, I'm really sorry someone got wet. I can see how that might scare them for life. This is the exact kind of thing that makes me believe that have no tolerance for any action in this country. It's amazing I don't get sued for showing up at my job.

It has nothing to do about the water. It has to do with there lack of respect for those teachers. Throwing the water balloons at one another is one thing, but they intentionally threw them at the teachers, which shows their lack of respect for authority.

You know I do understand your point as well but......look at the things that have been happening in the schools even since you graduated.

The killings that have happened nerves are on end no one knows what to expect anymore. How far will a simple prank be carried. Will one of these kids come back and take revenge now.

You said yourself you would think about taking a baseball bat and do some damage. Problem is now days it is not baseball bats they use it is guns. And it is not just one that gets killed but several innocent ones.

It all comes back to we are damned if we do and damned if we don't.

No it really doesn't necessarily mean they had total disrespect for their teachers, although they probably do after the fact! The fact that they didn't actually hit the teachers directly with the balloons shows me that they did in fact have some respect for their teachers!

Many schools now have ZERO TOLERANCE rules.

Zero Tolerance means just that.

I think that parents should teach their children not to throw water ballons at their teachers.

Imagine if you threw one at your boss?

that pretty much sums it up

I'd say, that graduating high school is one of the greatest achievements one can make and also one of the most important things one can do this day and time. It is truly a time to celebrate! One should celebrate! Celebration usually brings with it silly behavior and rituals! Throwing water balloons, painting the street and other things people wouldn't normally do on a daily basis. When I was in school, we still received three licks with a paddle! I guess I would gladly trade three licks for a few water balloons thrown at my teachers! It's when you deny people so simple as walking down that aisle with their fellow classmates, that brings on violent behavior! They earned that right for years of hard work and effort! Maybe those kids punishment should be to build a hanging platform for that teacher/principal out in the school yard for all to see!

When I was in the Navy and crossed the equator, we had a ceremony where a lot of hazing took place. Although hazing isn't tolerated in the military these days, it is for this occasion. Ranks mean nothing! You get more than a little wet! It is a fun time! Through all that, I can now proudly say that I'm a Shellback! (look it up if you want)

All I saying, is that given the circumstances, there should be exceptions to the rule!

I think it is further example of the pussification of america. I am suprised that those teachers can walk with their underwear twisted in knots so far up their ass

That is simply not true. The fact is everyone is wound so tight anymore that they can't see past their own nose. Everything has multiple meanings anymore. There are people out there who will tell you a punch to the nose is meant to show love. Kids canot be kids anymore without fear of reprisals just like this. It only serves to make more uptight fear mongering adults when they grow up

I think the suspension and no activities bar the graduation would be enough.

I agree wit this statemetn. Suspension for the assault (throw one at a cop and try to get off an assault charge, lol), along with suspension of all extra activities.

HOWEVER, the graduation ceremoiny is not an extra-curricular activity, and normally is held on a non-school day anyway. Have the suspension end at close of business the final day of school\, and let them walk down the aisle.

spot on. bravo. People are wound up so tight anymore they have forgotten childhood antics. You people want your kids to grow up too soon. Yes, I would throw a water balloon at my boss too, lol.

the rest of you people claim to want to teach responsibility, but I think you are just jealous. Jealous of a kid being a kid, and forgetting that their childhood essentially ends with graduation. They have plenty of time to go work meaningless jobs, or suit and tie as well as responsibilities. Teacher no longer love the children they teach it seems, and have lost their passion for the job they supposedly love. You wonder why kids snap? That kind of pressure is unreasonable, and selfish of an adult in that position
