How bout those "green" jobs?

I understand that people just want to see more jobs. The thing that gets me is that they think these jobs are going to pop up over night. Many of these projects take years to get rolling. This isn't going to happen overnight. Shifting to solar energy is something that is going to happen, especially in the southwest where sunshine is abundant. And as far as cost....things get cheaper when they are produced in mass quantities. I remember back in the 1970's when pocket calculators were first coming out....they cost over $200!!! money to pay the bills isn't gunna pop up over night either... there is a reason why some are impatient. So people are impatient...soooo.....let's fire the guy that's trying to fix this mess? Do you really think anyone else could be doing a better job? I seem to recall John McCain telling the people to face reality, that many of these jobs will not be coming back. What if this were to happen....what if Prsident Obama were to say "Okay, I get it...the American people think the stimulus money was a watse...every state has until January 21 to pay it all back to the US Treasury." And "further more, I am resigning and so is Joe. He will apoint Sarah Palin who will be the next President effective November 1st" "Then we will all watch and see how well the conservatives do at pulling this car wreck out of the ditch." Do you really think anyone could do any better? |

Mr. Unsworth will NOT be remembered for the good things he did in his life....he will be remembered for the hate he and his family carried in their hearts even to the grave.
Very sad |

And as far as cost....things get cheaper when they are produced in mass quantities. I remember back in the 1970's when pocket calculators were first coming out....they cost over $200!!! The southwest is a place where solar power could be used effectively. But even so, it's still just an option for individual home owners. There is no viable system to provide solar power from a single source to multiple locations. There are a few photovoltaic power plants being built in California, but they cost over a billion dollars each and only provide a fraction of power necessary to make a large impact. It's a start, but we are a long way off from it becoming a reliable source of power. Electricity is an inelastic product. It is something everyone must have and whether the price is high or low, the demand changes very little. I belong to a local Co-op and the more people that belong the lower the prices. If you look at solar on an individual basis, there will be less demand for power produced by the provider, but with fewer subscribers the cost for everyone who remains will rise. It costs the provider the same amount to produce the product, but fewer people paying for it will lead to higher rates. Cutting rates would make no sense, because the people that you provide power to, aren't going to go out and buy 2 more refrigerators, 5 more tv's, or turn up their heat to 100 degrees during the winter to increase demand to make up for the loss of subscribers. Until a system is in place that can provide reliable single source to multiple locations power, the cost to those that can't afford the single home supply units is going to be overwhelming. I don't know why you say it would "just be an option" as there is no viable means to deliver power from a solar plant to homes. I believe there is sufficient transmission corridors in Arizona to provide power all over this state. We have plants all over the state that provide power....even send a lot of power to California! I don't think photovoltaics is the way this will happen. We have had a couple plants constructed here already....and operating for years now that use mirrors and Sterling Engines. It's really an amazing thing to see....the mirrors track the sun, focus onto the sterling engine and that produces steam to run turbines. All this takes is glass and steel to make....and we have plenty of that here in America. |

The govt. is the key issue on the immigration problem. Arizona passed one of toughest laws on employing illegals a couple years ago. It was called the "Employer Sanctions Law" and the way it was to work was that anyone who knowingly hires an illegal would have their business license revoked by the State of Arizona. You know who beeched and complained about it? And still continues to fight this law? It's the friggin companies that hire the illegals. I think these companies need to be called out for the basterds they are. They are just as much to blame for luring the illegals into this state. |

I still think it's a great idea to go solar. Anything to get us off burning coal and oil, too primative. Even though the bid went to a company from Spain, there are many jobs & components that will be built by Americans.
Look at Toyota. Sure they are a Japanese company but they have plants here in the US building cars & tracks that employ thousands of American workers. And I don't think President Obama is to blame for the bids going to a foriegn company...I say shame on American companies that haven't got their act together or don't give a fluck about American workers. Here is an article from AZ Central. Arizona solar plant gets big boost from feds Obama approves $1.45 billion for construction of largest solar plant in the world to be built in Arizona President Barack Obama announced Saturday that the federal government will provide a $1.45 billion loan guarantee through the stimulus act for the Solana Generating Station solar-power plant in Gila Bend. The plant will be one of the largest solar projects in the country and the first to store heat on a large scale so that it can continue to make electricity after sunset. Its developers have struggled for two years to find a decent loan amid the recession. Obama discussed the loan guarantee in an advance copy of his Saturday radio address provided to The Arizona Republic. The deal gives the plant the assistance it will need to finally move ahead. The plant could now open by mid 2013 after originally being scheduled to open in 2011. The plant will sell its power to Arizona Public Service Co., helping Arizona’s largest electric utility meet a state requirement that it get 15 percent of its energy from renewable power sources by 2025. “We’re going to keep fighting to advance our recovery,” Obama said. “And we’re going to keep competing aggressively to make sure the jobs and industries of the future are taking root right here in America. That’s one of the reasons why we’re accelerating the transition to a clean energy economy and doubling our use of renewable energy sources like wind and solar power – steps that have the potential to create whole new industries and hundreds of thousands of new jobs in America.” Solana will be built and operated by Abengoa Solar Inc. of Spain. “After years of watching companies build things and create jobs overseas, it’s good news that we’ve attracted a company to our shores to build a plant and create jobs right here in America,” Obama said. The 280-megawatt plant will be able to generate enough electricity to serve 70,000 houses at once when running at full capacity, and will be able to make power during the peak hours of demand from about 4-7 p.m. when traditional solar panels generate little electricity the low light of dusk. The entire cost of designing, building and connecting the plant to the power grid is about $2 billion. Work could begin by the end of summer, said Kate Maracas, vice president of operations for Abengoa Solar, and that wouldn’t be happening without the loan guarantee that gives the company access to funds from the Federal Finance Bank. “It would have been a completely viable project without the crash of the markets,” Maracas said. “But lenders became very skittish.” She said Abengoa has been working more than a year with the Department of Energy on the loan. “There’s no doubt in this economy the only way to actually finance a large solar project is through the loan guarantee program,” said Rhone Resch, president of the Solar Energy Industries Association in Washington, D.C. “Obviously the recession has caused a tremendous amount of pain for individuals, but also for businesses trying to borrow money.” Resch said the loan guarantees provide a “good return” to the taxpayer because the companies that get them must pay interest to the government. “The good news is these are very low-risk loans,” he said. “Ultimately it is a good investment with a safe return to taxpayers, but also producing jobs and clean energy.” He said any other large solar plants likely would need similar guarantees in the current market. U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., helped convince the administration to provide the loan guarantee. “This historic facility will allow 70,000 Arizona homes to be powered with clean, renewable energy from the sun,” Giffords said. “The plant also will create construction jobs and skilled permanent jobs which will add substantially to the Arizona economy.” It will take about 1,600 people to build the plant and 85 to run it. Solana will cover about three square miles of previously farmed land with mirrors that reflect sunlight onto gas-filled tubes. The heat is used to make steam and then electricity. The plant will use less water than the crops that were grown on the farm. American companies will earn about $1.1 million in revenue making components for Solana, including two assembly factories to be constructed at the plant. A new mirror manufacturing facility will be sited near Phoenix to supply the plant, employing about 150 people, according to the White House announcement. About 97,000 receivers will be made for the plant at Schott Solar’s factory in Albuquerque. Obama also announced a $400 million loan guarantee for Abound Solar, which plans to build solar-panel factories in Colorado and Indiana. The Colorado plant is underway and the other will occupy a vacant Chrysler factory. “Already, I’ve seen the payoff from these investments,” Obama said. “I’ve seen once-shuttered factories humming with new workers who are building solar panels and wind turbines; rolling up their sleeves to help America win the race for the clean energy economy.” Read more: http://www.azcentral.com/business/articles/2010/07/03/20100703biz-abengoa0704-ONL.html |

1% Transaction Tax
Q: Is "Obama’s finance team" recommending a 1 percent tax on all bank transactions, as a chain e-mail claims? A: No. This idea was first floated in 2004 by one House member, who says it would replace the federal income tax and eliminate the national debt. So far it has gone nowhere. http://www.factcheck.org/ask-factcheck/ |

TEXAS Executions 2000–2009 = 248 your comparing actual criminals to someone that passed out fliers?? I think Texas should put more of 'em outta' their misery. Would sure help with overcrowding. See if Saudi Rabida will take the pedophiles as slave labor instead of the poor Philippine women they abuse. And they were hanging them until 1923.... Talk about a primitive society. |

Funny, I did'nt hear Beck badmouthing MLK at all in any of his speech. On the other hand, I heard Al Sharpton repeadedly claim everyone there was a racist and a bigot. Seems as though "Reverand" Sharpton was not there to celebrate the legacy of MLK....instead he was there, as usual, to spew his racial hatred towards others. Did anyone even come to see Al sharpton? It would be good if for once...just once...someone ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE IN HERE WHO POST THESE ARTICLES....could actually post what beck was saying WAS RACIST!!! Seriously give us something to debate here.Because all I see reading this article is Big mouth Beck spews hatred towards blacks and MLK.No facts,no quotes,no videos,no witnesses.Just a whole bunch of BS hoping it will stick to the wall and someone will notice it hanging there. This is getting old.Get some real news or post this nonsense in the opinion section for the NAACP. I saw big mouth Beck spewing religious BS like he is prophet. He is nothing but a cult leader and you are all being sucked into it. |

The Fort Hood hero to the muslims stated that Muslims ‘could not and should not kill fellow Muslims.’ Is the motive for Barack Hussein Obama’s insistence on civilian trials, to make sure he doesn’t have to sign the death warrants for the Muslim Terrorists? What a bunch of HOGWASH! Why don't you look up how many predator strikes President Obama has authorized on muslim targets. He has killed plenty of muslims by his orders. |
