Topic: I'm going to quit smoking! (EEKHH) | |
---|---|
Well... I lost the 'battle' a while back when something that's incredibly stressful to me turned up. First thing I did was light a cig. I was shocked to find myself do that. I managed to go back to not smoking but at some point I lost it. So now I'm back to smoking as much as I did before, short of breath, coughing, my house and me smelling again etc etc. It took a while but I'm done with it. I just phoned the GP for the 2nd batch (3 months) of nicotine patches. You're allowed 2x that get covered by insurance. I do want that support. I'd decided weeks ago that I was going to quit again, but yeah... In a way I didn't want to phone for patches as it felt like failure. Admitting I'd failed. But even the health insurance site says that it's quite the addiction hence you're being allowed to get the patches twice if need be. That made me realise, I have not failed, it's just one helluva addiction! Yet, it was quite the step to really make this decision, to pick up the phone and get it sorted. That addiction voice yapping, "Wait a few days! You can do it next week!" She practice assistant will likely phone me and I will likely get her guiding/coaching calls again each or every other week. This is part of the program. If I refuse I have to pay the patches myself, and it is actually quite nice to have her support. In any case... I'm going for it again! I feel ya, 52 years for me now! Not sure about your meds insurance but yu might try asking about Chatix. Some people (like me) don't respond with duration from the patches or the lozenges or gum. http://www.chantix.com/ Take one 0.5-milligram tablet once a day for 3 days, then increase to one 0.5-milligram tablet twice a day for 4 days. The dose is slowly increased to lessen the chance of side effects (such as nausea, unusual dreams). It is okay to smoke during this time. Stop smoking on the quit date. The most common side effects of CHANTIX include nausea, sleep problems (trouble sleeping or vivid, unusual, or strange dreams), constipation, gas, and/or vomiting. If you have side effects that bother you or don't go away, tell your healthcare provider. Uninsured, low income patients may be able to get Chantix for free with the Pfizer RxPathways program. Bupropion
Brand name: Wellbutrin Antidepressant and Smoking cessation aid It can treat depression and help people quit smoking. It can also prevent depression caused by seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Brands: Wellbutrin XL, Wellbutrin SR, Aplenzin, Forfivo XL, and Zyban Availability: Prescription needed It takes eight days for the body to have enough bupropion to start easing the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal and reduce tobacco cravings. Bupropion has proven efficacy for smoking cessation in a number of clinical trials, helping approximately one in five smokers to stop smoking. Up to a half of patients taking bupropion experience side effects, mainly insomnia and a dry mouth, which are closely linked to the nicotine withdrawal syndrome. The herb lobelia (Lobelia inflata) has been promoted to help people fight the effects of nicotine withdrawal and it is found in many anti-smoking products. The active ingredient in lobelia is lobeline and it is thought to have similar actions on the body as nicotine. |

Thanks Tom!
Stuff like Zyban I'm not allowed to take due to how it affects the central nervous system. OT - my nicotine patches arrived this afternoon! Now to decide when to start again. Won't be tomorrow or Friday as I'm going to be quite busy with birthday visits. Not smart to start then. But... they're in tha house and now I can decide to start on Saturday or after the weekend. |

Sunday is the start of a new week. As good a time as any... I'm actually thinking Monday. I did that last time as well. Finish the weekend, enjoy it, and at Sunday night smoke the last ciggie. But if I feel up for it I may do it sooner. |

Nah, not going to make my life difficult to try and quit when surrounded by people that smoke. Way too tempting and not the easiest start. life is a challenge and peer pressure only adds to it .... go against the grain and do yourself a favour...... prove to yourself that you are up to this life changing challenge and start on the rough road ahead .... now !!! |

Feeling good! Have not smoked today at all, and the idea of course is to quit again. Finally!! I couldn't get myself to it before.
My daughter and I said we'd quit yesterday, but I still smoked, she didn't. My girl is concerned as she can tell I smoke too much. That does help. And so far I like it. No foul taste, no smell. And I always feel great when I go to bed on the first day of not smoking cos then I can say, "I made it! I did it!" For me it's usually about that first day. Like that is the biggest obstacle to overcome. |

I am on the second try as well. Two weeks without smokes since yesterday And the vaping products are much nicer than they were 8 years ago Sounds you're doing well, Larsi! Stick with it! And yes, there are plenty of nice vaping fluids, a matter of finding a brand and flavour you like. So far doing well too, but right now after dinner I'm having a bit of a difficult moment. The habit, right, after dinner cig. But I'm not giving in. It's just a moment as I had a bit of a before-dinner dip. I'm not using an E-cig, don't intend to either. I just want to be done with it altogether. I am using a nicotine patch. |

That's where vaping comes in handy. Replacing smokes with vapes. Not ideal, but I suppose, the lesser of two evils. |

For me it's too close to keeping the smoking habit alive and thus too easy to go back to tobacco. I just hope to get over it so these particular receptors go dormant. |

Right now I'd really love to smoke one, hihi. It's 1 at night, I best go to bed. That craving comes from being tired & sleepy. So... time to tell Nila goodnight, give her a cuddle, and go upstairs. And then say to myself.... I DID IT! Day one!! YAY! |

Well, so far so good. Difficult moments here and there, then reminding myself that in my head it's nice to smoke but if I do it isn't.
I have sniffed the packet of tobacco twice, and boy does that stink now! When a smoker it smells so nice, really weird that all I smell now is chemical chit. I know that's how it will taste if I'd light one as well, and I'm not going to do that. At least 50 cigs not smoked. Okay it's still reasonably early, but smoked a helluva lot. . . . |
