Day 2... not even 2 full days of not smoking and already my sense of smell has improved, while it wasn't bad to begin with.
It's good, but not always pleasant... my dank cupboard under the stairs smells worse than I could smell before. Gross is the word... A paved path leading into town is clearly the local piss path. Some cat pee as well, but mostly man's pee. My fave fabric softener is rather overwhelming, hihi. Still craving to smoke regularly, quite the habit to get rid of. Coughing less, especially at night when in bed. |

Today when I had to take the car, it was great to not have to take my handbag. I SO dislike handbags, hihi. And I now only have to take my phone which fits in my jacket pocket. Freedom! Lol. |

often a dealer question when trading in a decent car is ,has it ever been smoked in ?, Stuff for sale on eBay often says from a smoke free home , you are on your way I've sometimes been thinking about that now that more and more people are quitting. But even if I quit now, I doubt my books will ever not smell of smoke, hihi. With cars I have seen that announced as well. I wasn't interested in that really, as long as it wasn't pipe tobacco or cigars. All I thought was, "Smoke free, huh. Not to worry. I'll quickly sort that!" But I haven't had my car for long, 4,5 months, and haven't driven very often so I haven't smoked much in it either. I think my car will be fine :) I always only smell the scent 'tree' that's dangling on the mirror. I do get your point! Thanks! |

I've been smoking for 51 years.
I have COPD and chronic bronchitis. I've used the patches twice and had some luck but I discovered an anomaly. I'm actually allergic to nicotine! The patches caused a severe allergic reaction on my skin. I was doing well while using them but when I had to discontinue, I slowly talked myself into "just one won't hurt". I tried the lozenges but they made me very ill. I tried cold turkey, substitution, distraction, all to no avail. I just spent $172 on cigarettes for the month (5 cartons + 2 packs). If you CAN quit, you should. Varenicline (also called Chantixยฎ) is a prescription medicine developed to help people stop smoking. It works by interfering with nicotine receptors in the brain. I've asked my doc to put me on Chantix but he won't. The side effects are severe for people who have dealt with severe depression. Even tho my depression was years ago, he is unwilling to take that chance with my mental health and the progress I have made. I want to quit smoking. I NEED to quit smoking. Its killing me, makes my body and home stink, Its dirty and disgusting and none of the glamor of when I first started remains. Vaping is a waste of time and does nothing to change a habit, its just substitution. If you can quit and stay smoke-free, it will change your life. A heartfelt "Good Luck" to you! |

hey tom, check this one out...
https://www.healthchecksystems.com/smoking.htm i posted it at the beginning of the thread. no patches pills or lozenges. what is really cool about it is that it breaks the physical association habits at the same time it is weening you off the nicotine. and unlike to original as seen on tv version, i believe this one is reusable. so if it takes a second trip around you can |

Quitkey?
Step one is going to be the most difficult because I smoke so much most of the time I am not even aware I have one lit. The only way I know is when I look in the ash tray I see multiple butts. To try to set up step one, I would need to be focused on smoking, which I am not. Thing is, when I am focused on smoking (like when in public places) I can go without one for long periods of time. When I leave the restriction, I once again light up without even realizing it. Recently, when I managed to quit for a month using Nicoderm, I was doing alright, I could breathe better and I felt better. When I stopped using the patch, I managed to go a few days without smoking by conscious will but then I talked myself into 'just one'. I kept the pack in my truck and put all my ashtrays away. Gradually I convinced myself to go get one more, then another and soon the pack. Currently I have only two ashtrays in the house. One at my desk and one at the kitchen island. I find myself constantly either at the desk or sitting in the kitchen (where the ash trays are). I can force myself to sit on the sofa but somehow, I always gravitate to the ash trays. I tried removing the ash trays but that didn't work at all. I believe if I actually quit smoking it is not going to be from purposeful denial. Its going to have to be in my face available and a choice to not smoke. If I can have a pack on the island beside an ash tray and NOT want to light one, I will beat it. The trouble is getting to that point. |

YES quitkey
it is one of the most effective aids going because of the way it attacks both sides of the habit. just zip tie the key fob over the business end of your lighter so you need to manipulate it when ever you light up lol. and that is only for the 1st week i believe after that you don't light up until it tells you to |

Vaping is a waste of time and does nothing to change a habit, its just substitution. If you can quit and stay smoke-free, it will change your life. A heartfelt "Good Luck" to you! Thank you, Tom! The leaflet that came with the patches said that often people get skin problems but that is almost always due to not putting them on different spots of the body all the time. Sometimes it gets a little itchy by the end of the day, but I put it on different spots each day: left hip, right hip, thigh etc. I was a wee bit concerned about it when I read it as I have sensitive skin, but so far so good. (knocking on wood!) I cannot take the medication stuff to quit smoking either. Called Zyban here. Not to do with depression for me but because I've had epilepsy. I went through E136 ($160) a month on rolling tobacco. Insanity... now thinking of going to Scotland next year, hihi. It was also the first thing my girl said as well when she came over tonight. I was just fine when she was here while normally I smoked even more when I had visitors. :) Maybe one day you will be successful too regardless of prior problems! I've also been a smoker for 37 yrs, you never know! |

Today I smelled the butts in the ashtrays a few times. My goodness, I almost puked!
Another time I smelled the tiny bit of tobacco I have left. It is almost worse than the ashtray! No lovely tobacco scent, all I smell is chemical chit? At some point I lit one, not because I truly craved one, but because i remembered how gross it was from when I briefly quit before, and I needed that confirmation as in my head I kept craving a fag. It was god-awful! It tasted bad, and the taste it left in my mouth was very similar to the ashtray that's still full with Sundays' butts. Meaning I've tasted and smelled from my mouth like an ashtray for years on end... I seriously cannot believe I smoked that crap for 37 yrs! And I also cannot believe this reaction as it's only day 3?!! It's so disgusting that I doubt I could even go back to smoking if I wanted to, hahaha. I'm just thinking I'm going to be all right, hihi. My daughter was bloody proud of me too. She hadn't expected me to already have quit :D |

You got this~~~~ Everything smells different after a few days as well as taste.. Ohh and the smoke smell will leave your items as the weeks go on.. Same with your books... you will be surprised they will pick up the other smells in the house air freshener/candles ect as you clean. The car will have no issue the same will happen to it each time you clean it.. |

Me loves hawthorn! I sure as heck do hope that I get to do it next year. My plan is to put aside E20 (approx $24) each week, which is big part of what usually went up in smoke. If I don't consciously put it aside it's going to be spend on crystals and lamb chops and I'll never get to Scotland haha. |

The urge to smoke is much less today! YAY!
The problem is that I have much more energy and want to do things, go places etc. But I have to bear in mind that I have a neck injury and back problems, and both are bothering me at the mo because I've done some stuff in the garden a few days back that is really a bit to heavy for me. So I have to slow myself down, do tiny bits and things every now and then, then sit on my bum again. Last night I saw my girlie and she said I appeared more energetic as well. I wasn't sure then, now I sure as hell can feel it! Something about my face has changed. I already thought to see that by the end of day 1, but I figured that was impossible, so soon. But I keep seeing it. ' I think it's my eyes. Something about my eyes is different. Maybe the white is getting a little whiter, not sure. Not necessarily my skin as in spite of smoking I always had good skin. Funny to see these changes this soon! |

Question for others who have quit.... do you remember getting more energy? As in A LOT?
I'm not sure now if it's quitting itself OR the patch? I've got so much energy it's insane. |
