Topic: I'm going to quit smoking! (EEKHH) | |
---|---|
I used the patches when I left Florida to do seasonal work. Patches and the lozenges. I liked the patches because it keep an even flow of a lower dose of nicotine in me. That helped quite a bit with cravings, I had very few, other than the association cravings, like when I drank coffee and after meals. I stayed off cigarettes for a year, so between the patches and my own determination/commitment, it was successful. I did start again exactly one year later and still smoke, but I know if I decide again to quit and I seriously want to stop, the patches will be the way to do it. Congratulations and best wishes to you! Thanks you! So you were also successful because of the patches! I had to Google lozenges. I take it especially to quit smoking or just some tablet things to have something in your mouth? They dissolve in your mouth. Some people can't use them because they irritate the gums and inner cheek. The biggest problem I found with them is I became addicted to them, probably more psychologically. I also got used to having something in my mouth all the time, so they were difficult to stop. I needed to get hard candy to substitute them. But if you can keep from popping them like candy, they are nice for that instant fix of nicotine. Using the patch, in my opinion, would be better. You can slowly reduce the amount of nicotine, and if you need that "hand to mouth" experience, using a straw or lollipop works well. |

The positive first few words suggest you are serious I did 100 a day at one time , I tried all sorts to stop ,one evening a good friend of mine and a similar heavy smoker of just 48 had a fatal heart attack in front of my eyes, it shook me up and made me think a lot ,I never had another one after that ,I had thousands at home from Spanish holidays , I sold the lot , Ten years after a similar thing happened with alcohol,we all know both are no good for you , I deliberately phrased it that way and not "I think I'm going to quit." :) I can imagine if you see something like that happening that it shakes you up tremendously! I'm gonna enjoy it over the weekend, then Monday... first day of not smoking, hihi. |

I'm what's called an oral personality. I've sucked my thumb until I was near 20, and at school I always had a pen in my mouth. I only took it out when I had to speak, then put it right back. I didn't even think about it anymore, hihi. Because of that I got to look into my book on what's behind smoking. That also related to that I believe. It's a book like Louise Hay's only it's by another author that's an authority in the field over here. Not available in English though. Anywho, I intend to read the section on that. It could help :) |

I asked for help in the energy work group, for things that could help.
I got 2 tips, one is tapping to help get rid of the habit, the other on keeping the metabolism going which could help with weight gain. I'm going to implement both. In a way I'm beginning to look forward to it more and more! Extinguishing last cig Sunday night, clean up the ashtray. Phew... It does give me the jitters, but also curios as to how it'll go!! |

I used to think it was more of a security issue, my very own security blankie that I'd never lose, haha, but I like your explanation better. :) I'm sure you're going to succeed in this, you sound like you have that resolve to give it up once and for all. That's cool. :) |

Been there done that and finally achieved it!
Sorry this is going to be a book to read~~~ I will be one to admit I liked smoking my cigs always had one from the time I woke up till the time I went to bed.. I was a chain smoker 2-3 packs a day.. Yes, I tried many times prior and always cold turkey for me.. Each has to find what works for them. They also have a pill to give you which is how my brother's best friend just recently quit and he was a chain smoker as well.. First, everyone has to have a reason or goal they want in order to stop.. It is not as easy as some may think.. I had quit at one time for 2 years got pissed off at an ex bf and stopped and bought me a pack.. That only started me smoking 2-3 packs again.. Then I was given an ultimatum to quit due to my first granddaughter being born as a premie and they lived with me. Dr came to us all asking where will she live does anyone smoke..I said with me and yes I smoke in my house.. He said either you smoke outside & take a shower before you hold her or quit. For her lungs can not take it.. She was under oxygen for a week at the Hospital. Sure I walked out and lite one up.. I smoked the couple of packs I had while she was in the hospital.. And never looked back.. Best thing I ever did.. But now the hand to motion from smoking is the reason many gain weight due to they start eating more due to the hand to mouth motion... What I did was get straws cut them to the length of a cig put them in a cig package I had and each time I got the urge I grabbed a straw instead of a cig and put it in my mouth along with a mint.. Once the urge left I threw the straw in the ashtray.. When the urge got really bad I actually would go do yard work or cleaning an area in the house that needed it or even read, in order to get past the urge and forget about a smoke... It is all in how determined you are to quit.. Reward yourself it does help.. I figured out what I was spending a month in cigs every month I would take a 1/3 of what I was spending and buy me something I wanted or needed.. I got to where I looked forward to that for I was spending at least $300 a month in smoking. Make goals and reward yourself along the way.. Find what you like to do and get lost within it when the urge to smoke gets too bad.. Hmmm okay done with my book~~ Good luck girl it is hard at times but well worth it in the end.. The best thing I ever did, it will be 18 years this coming Jan 2021. You Got this~~~ |

Thank you, Freebird & Kristi!
The straws might be a good idea! Did you gain weight btw? Or manage to control that with the straws? |

Thank you, Freebird & Kristi! The straws might be a good idea! Did you gain weight btw? Or manage to control that with the straws? Nope did not gain weight due to I found myself working in the yard more or crafts I liked to do that kept my mind busy.. Most tend to eat more due to they miss the motion of having the cig in their hand and putting it in their mouth.. therefore pick up eating in order to satisfy that habit they got so used too. Which the straws you are satisfying that habit.. |

Which the straws you are satisfying that habit.. Good to know it is possible without weight gain! I intend to move more as well, within what is possible for me physically. I have put the 1-mile walk (full body fitness work-out indoors) on the agenda agenda. If I do that 2-3 times a week next to my walks... Since the crap weather season has started again it'll be ideal :) Fingers crossed as I was just losing a bit of peri-menopausal weight. I'd so hate to put on weight!! |

Having a bit of a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR moment the last half hour or so. It's half past 2, and around 2 I always squeezed in an extra cigarette as I then craved it. I don't know why that used to happen.
I'm experiencing the same thing now around this time. I have ordered goodies online so I can make myself a tea to drink before bed. It helps to burn fat. So I ordered chamomile, the healthy variant cinnamon, apple vinegar with the mother, and I'll have to get some lemons. Curious to see if it works. You should see some result at least after 7 days. The goodies will come in tomorrow. I do hope it'll help cos I know I'm going to get totally PO if I put on weight and might start smoking again then. I hate putting on weight that much as I hinders me from feeling 'me', wearing the clothes that make me feel 'me' etc. I've lived that for some 8 yrs, the one promise I made myself was, NEVER again. If I don't feel 'me' and become utterly miserable, what's the point of not smoking? So putting on weight is not an option. And yes, somehow that is more important to me than not smoking. Tomorrow night I'm going to have my tea. Fingers crossed. |

Phew, I got through that. It was hard around 2! Maybe something naturally dips in my body making me need a cig a lot.
Have had the after-dinner moment. I must say that wasn't as difficult as that 2 o'clock one. |

Thank you, ladies!
Very much appreciate the support! I am very happy with the patch! At least I don't feel like a zombie cos nicotine drops like a brick. I can tell the level of nicotine is lower, or different, but it's very doable. Yawning a lot, haha. Feeling a little sleepy but that I can live with. |
