EDITED FOR LENGTH

Many years ago there was an Emperor so exceedingly fond of new clothes that he spent all his money on being well dressed. He cared nothing about reviewing his soldiers, going to the theatre, or going for a ride in his carriage, except to show off his new clothes.

Every day many strangers came to town, and among them one day came two swindlers. They let it be known they were weavers, and they said they could weave the most magnificent fabrics imaginable. Not only were their colors and patterns uncommonly fine, but clothes made of this cloth had a wonderful way of becoming invisible to anyone who was unfit for his office, or who was unusually stupid.

They set up two looms and pretended to weave, though there was nothing on the looms.

All the town was talking of this splendid cloth, and the Emperor wanted to see it for himself while it was still in the looms. Attended by a band of chosen men, among whom were his two old trusted officials-the ones who had been to the weavers-he set out to see the two swindlers. He found them weaving with might and main, but without a thread in their looms.

"Magnificent," said the two officials already duped. "Just look, Your Majesty, what colors! What a design!" They pointed to the empty looms, each supposing that the others could see the stuff.

His whole retinue stared and stared. One saw no more than another, but they all joined the Emperor in exclaiming, "Oh! It's very pretty," and they advised him to wear clothes made of this wonderful cloth especially for the great procession he was soon to lead.

The noblemen who were to carry his train stooped low and reached for the floor as if they were picking up his mantle. Then they pretended to lift and hold it high. They didn't dare admit they had nothing to hold.

So off went the Emperor in procession under his splendid canopy. Everyone in the streets and the windows said, "Oh, how fine are the Emperor's new clothes! Don't they fit him to perfection? And see his long train!" Nobody would confess that he couldn't see anything, for that would prove him either unfit for his position, or a fool. No costume the Emperor had worn before was ever such a complete success.

"But he hasn't got anything on," a little child said.

Since 2016, I have felt like a child in a Hans Christian Andersen story ....

Roger Stone leaves door open to cooperation with special counsel

"Roger Stone, the former Trump adviser indicted for allegedly lying to Congress, continued to insist he's innocent on Sunday. He's the sixth associate of President Trump to be charged in connection with special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, and is set to appear in federal court on Tuesday. ".

Democrats and Republicans try to outlaw future government shutdowns after Trump backs down over wall funding

"Was this the shutdown to end all shutdowns?

The answer could be yes. The toll exacted on government operations and federal employees by the record 35-day stalemate — not to mention the political costs to those in the White House and on Capitol Hill — was so punishing that it is giving momentum to a long-standing call to prohibit the government disruptions that have become a regular facet of Washington hardball".

Under his plan, which has 18 co-sponsors and rising, funding at existing levels would continue for agencies covered by an appropriations measure that was not signed into law by the beginning of the fiscal year on 1 October, preventing any lapse that incites a shutdown. To spur a resolution, funding would be reduced by 1 per cent after 120 days if no agreement is reached and by 1 per cent more every 90 days.

I would agree with that wholeheartedly, that or put a freeze on all assets of anyone involved in negotiating (congress and POTUS) as soon as a 'shutdown' begins. I doubt they would play so long and tough with their own way of life on the line ...

Harmony - I say this sincerely.... I enjoyed The Emperor's New Clothes. When I was a kid that was one of my favorite fairy tales. I am making no political statement here, I really enjoyed reading the story again.

Charles, thank you for putting some red letters on my quote. just in case anyone missed it, cuz this might flip to the next page......

I'd rather get info from Julian Assange than the Washington Post. I prefer to get my news from Aljazeera and The Guardian than the majority of our newspapers. Frankly, most of the quotes and links posted on here come from the well-known Fake News. I pray every day that sensible Americans will use their heads and sort out the reality from all the fake news outlets. I continue to support our military, all branches.... our border patrol and ICE. I also support the NRA. I still stand for the Star Spangled Banner....and am able to sort out the liberal left from the conservatives.... Even those who pretend to be "on the right" but hide their real thoughts.

on a tangent, so did I. It was one of a few fable type stories or poems I was often read, along with Casey at the Bat, Signifying Monkey, Phenomenal Woman, and a personal all time favorite about coming into emotional maturity ... If, by Langston Hughes

I am glad it brought a smile, or a good memory.happy

Trump lifts sanctions on Russia oligarch Oleg Deripaska in 'huge gift to Putin'

"The Trump administration has lifted sanctions against companies linked to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, defying efforts led by congressional Democrats to block the move".

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-russia-sanctions-putin-oleg-deripaska-treasury-department-rusal-en-a8749781.html

During much, if not all, of Trump's campaign he sought to enrich himself by pursuing a luxury hotel-condominium-office deal in Russia known as Trump Tower Moscow.
And as a candidate, Trump repeatedly misled or lied to voters about his business with Russia. "I have nothing to do with Russia," he told reporters in July 2016. "I don't deal there," he said during the Oct. 9 presidential debate. One more dot that connects Trump to Russia and Putin.

just an FYI - Ms. Nancy has invited our President to give his State of the Union address on February 5. I am not sure if Chuckie, her puppy dog, helped her write the invite or if she worded it all by herself. MARK YOUR CALENDARS. Feb. 5

New reports detail contact Trump 2016 campaign had with Russians

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGl0WUegJ8U

It's hard to believe that all this corruption was going on around Trump, and yet he knew nothing about it. He would have to be a blind fool not to know.

Remember when Trump said at the beginning of all this that no one on his campaign including himself had any contact with Russians.

Chris Christie says he told Trump to stop tweeting about Russia probe: 'You're making this worse'

Every time he tweets he implicates himself even more. Christie gets it. He understood it long ago. But the self-proclaimed "stable genius" doesn't.

Mueller says Russians are altering evidence from special counsel’s investigation to discredit the probe

"Russians have obtained evidence from special counsel Robert Mueller’s inquiry into Moscow’s interference in US politics and altered it in a bid to discredit the probe, federal prosecutors have claimed".

RUE FUN FACTS! Mueller served 12 years as director of the FBI, the longest tenure since J. Edgar Hoover, but his law enforcement career was marked by a number of high-profile cases long before he rose to the top, including the investigation of mobster John Gotti, Panamanian strongman Manuel Noriega and the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland. According to Lisa Monaco, a former chief of staff, the Lockerbie case affected him particularly. For years later, Mueller quietly attended the December memorial services organized by the families.

Fox News Poll: President Trump’s ratings after two years in office

"President Donald Trump took office on January 20, 2017. The Fox News Poll checked in with voters about how things are going for the administration after two years. Here are six takeaways".

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-president-trumps-ratings-after-two-years-in-office

When will Trumpsters stop making excuses for him? He is who he said he is. He's caused separation in the WH, US, World, etc. No one wants to work for him. He purposely discredits anything or anyone that is smarter than him everyone in the intelligence community, disagree with him and of course, he aims to discredit them. Simple but Reps think they are too smart for their own good. Blind Sheep. Almost everyone in his election campaign is going to Jail. But of course, it's the Media's fault.

A dictator will 1. attack the media. 2. Discredit his critics. 3. enrich his comrade(s). 4. Use the military to do his dirty work. So far he's done 3 of the 4.

Trump orders ‘several thousand’ more troops to US-Mexico border, costing taxpayers over $600m

"Trump White House administration has ordered “several thousand” more troops to the US-Mexico border, Pentagon officials said Tuesday".

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-border-troops-us-mexico-wall-cost-migration-immigrants-daca-shutdown-taxpayers-a8754406.html

He's getting ready to justify that national emergency. Setting up the tweets as we speak.

For less than 400 million, DHS could deploy a wireless network infrastructure along the border, complete with sensors and cameras that would tell border patrol where people are crossing, and where they are heading- in real time. That capability doesn’t currently exist in many places. This infrastructure could also be leveraged by private industry to provide telecom service to citizens as well.

Trump wants to play the "emergency card" he needs to exaggerate the border issue. So why not send troops. It's all an illusion.

thats like saying a doctor doesnt want a broken bone to mend because he doesnt agree to have the patient pay for a cast without reviewing what the price is actually going to be and what needs to happen along WITH a cast for healing, because JUST PLACING A CAST on the broken bone wont fix it. The bones also need to be cleaned and disinfected and SET. someone insisting that they just hurry and put a cast on without any other actions would be rightly contested.

No what it does sound like is am ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure..

And if you want to take the medical route ..why get vaccinated when you're not even sick..spock

But you're right Ms.H there are many levels to treating a wound ..just like there are many levels to protecting the border..and a wall is one of those..and not just cameras and sensors..thanks for pointing that out..smile2
