Washington Post ran a similar article of drivel.

crazy storm hitting a bad spot, i'm shocked at the amount of ppl who stayed, a mandatory evac should have been called, risking their lives and the rescuers as well, this is not good.

A mandatory evacuation was given, but mandatory is not enforceable . Some stay to gaurd or protect their home. Once you leave for such an event, no telling when you can go back. Certainly after the proper officials mabey FEMA says it is safe to return. It's a judgement call.

people could have gone to the shelters early on. You can't protect your home from those floods and wind,whether you stay or leave, it will happen no matter what. Some people where stuck in their cars. Makes me think they were trying to leave at the last minute.

Man and woman, with very young
child, among those who refused to
leave, despite mandatory evacuation
order.

A tree fell on their home, killing the
child, and the child's mother. The father
is hospitalized.

Guard and protect their home when everyone should be running for their lives from the wind and water, no way should it be a judgement call IMO

It's crazy to think that some people value their properties more than their own lives.

Hope everyone is safe. :pray::pray:

Just got news from friends in the province that the typhoon has swept away roofs, brought damage to farmlands and uprooted trees. In one of the cities in Metro Manila, even a century-old tree and a 200-year old tree were not spared from the onslaught of the typhoon.

The Coast Guard plucked a lady who stayed off her roof today. House and area flooded. When they asked her why she stayed she said she had a doctors appointment...........

I hate to say it but a fair amount of those killed died of stupidity ..they stayed in harms way..worst put kids or elderly in harms way. Ir driving around the flooded streets in the nighttime

Shelters were avalible to all and the offer to come pick anyone up was given

It is a shame ..none the less
