Sports are not to be a place for political opinions or protests The Olympics are a great testament to this, people from around the world show up to compete, not protest and certainly not to disrespect the games. Some that see Colin as some kind of hero do not grasp the spirit of sports really? In 1980, 62 countries led by the United States of America boycotted the Moscow summer Olympics after the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan on Christmas 1979. The decision was not one made by American athletes. It was made by President Jimmy Carter and the decision was one of the least popular ones Carter ever made during his presidency. Jackie Robinson was once enemy number one as well ... old bigoted traditions die out ... the next generation isnt as stiped in 'customs and traditions' ... That boycott WAS NOT in the spirit of the games. If you asked Jimmy today, I bet he'd tell you this. I'd support Colin if his protests were anywhere else than ground level playing field I'll label him "opportunistic" and anti-sportsman, way to go Colin ![]() what about politics is 'the spirit of the game'? how is forced shows of patriotism in 'the spirit of the game?" exactly Taking advantage of opportunity makes some people presidential ...lol The kid obviously did not know how things would turn out and he took a GREAT RISK, that is not opportunistic. I have posted all the things he is into BESIDES the protest, .. that is no opportunistic if he happens to be able to salvage SOME type of income to continue making contributions to his cause and to live his life ... GOOD FOR HIM. Opportunistic because he was a mediocre QB with below avg pass completion % Below 60% and your days are numbered in NFL... Saw his career skidding so he figured he had nothing to lose, the Nike payday will be short lived, just you watch the culture I live in says 'any job is better than no job'. so risking his job which HAPPENED to come right after he protested and after the POTUS suggested he should not be allowed to play, was the opposite of opportunistic. If he was so below average, sure seems like he would have been traded in most scenarios from the team and not ousted from the league before his contract was up. |

Nah. when you get paid for your so called protest you are then selling it Cheapens the entire concept. What this is is a marketing project. To generate sales... for Nike. that is the bottom line. Marketing. And money. No different the a athlete on a T.V commercial selling his or her name or face. But you seem well informed on Colin so why not take us thru a week in Colin's life. Where is he protesting this week? What shows or radio is he doing to " spread the word" ? Must be busy . Don't tell me that the guy is just sitting home waiting for more ways to sell his " cause"? Nah..he has to be doing more then that. Right? So what is he doing this week? Or next week?..or actually..any week ? kills you doesnt it? ...lol he doesnt have to only or always 'protest' ... there are many ways to take action and he is continuing to do so, through legal action, through donations, through programs for at risk youth ... .... keep running the ball Colin ... Why would it kill me?. Colin has absolutely no bearing on any aspect of my life. None I am just calling it the way it is. He is selling his protest..making money on it Is that not true ?. Is he or is he not making money from it? He had taken his knee bend. Right to the bank and is profiting from it And that MS. Is fact |

Is fact he is not 'selling' his protest, no one paid him to do it, but he is reaping rewards for having chose to do it, AFTER THE FACT. he is profiting, that is fact, just like you profit in your business. So what? doesnt mean that he has not stood for or doesnt stand for what he believes in , which happens to be a great example of Nike's tag line. takes money to contribute money and to fund the types of education and programs that promote change ... and that money does not come from thin air. especially considering the spike in his Nike JERSEYS has no doubt added to the Nike profits, what he gets is what he 'earns' like anyone else. |

And the difference between reaping rewards and getting paid. Is what? Is that what Nike gave him...a reward?..or did they pay him for the use of his face. And does Nike expect to make money on this? Your damn right they do ;) No different then Alex Trebek selling life insurance |

Well I have no idea what kind of contracts you have signed for work but the ones I have are. . .pay...and a " reward" in the form of a bonus if I preform what I was being paid for in a excellent manner |

Don't care if you call it a reward..a bonus..pay..you pay taxes on it so..it is ...income
Which means. The person made money |

“Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything”
When he sacrifices everything he makes from Nike to the oppressed he’s fighting for maybe I’ll take him seriously. |

“Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything” When he sacrifices everything he makes from Nike to the oppressed he’s fighting for maybe I’ll take him seriously. I took him serious the moment he RISKED his career to make a stand, and followed up by living up to his promises to continue trying to make positive change through donation, charity, and programs of uplifting all over the country. of course, it wont be 'ENOUGH' sacrifice for some unless he chooses to live with no income or amenities ... but thats more a reflection about them than it is about him. |

There are real heroes in the NFL like Pat Tillman and not this clown. Nike should run campaigns with the REAL heroes and not the a$$ clowns.

There are real heroes in the NFL like Pat Tillman and not this clown. Nike should run campaigns with the REAL heroes and not the a$$ clowns. Nike is not running a 'be a hero' campaign. the campaign is about believing in something and sacrificing for that belief. but such a person could be called a 'hero': a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. there are enough of those to pick one, even Colin, even according to the spouse of Tillman herself and the author of his biography: Tillman's widow, Marie, asked people not to use her husband's service to silence others. Cpl. Pat Tillman. (PHOTOGRAPHY PLUS VIA WILLIAMSON/via AP/ASSOCIATED PRESS) "The very action of self expression and the freedom to speak from one’s heart — no matter those views — is what Pat and so many other Americans have given their lives for,” she said in a statement. said Jon Krakauer, the author of “Where Men Win Glory,” a biography of Tillman. "Pat would have found Kaepernick an extremely admirable person for what he believed in,” Krakauer told The Washington Post. “I have no doubt if he was in the NFL today, he would be the first to kneel. So there is irony about what is going on.” |
