we just watched it sunday night. other than compression it followed the book very well.
are you talking about him flying off into the starset, or the fact that it wasn't a test but the real war?
if it's the first. then that was the set up for speaker for the dead, the next book in the series
if it's the second. well that kinda was the whole point even back in 77 which was when orson scott card wrote it

It was the first. I didn't know there was a 2nd part, nor that it was based on a book.
So it's wait and see if they actually make a 2nd movie or not.


OT - Another epic historical & action movie: Kingdom of Heaven, battle over Jerusalem. 3 hrs long, but you don't even notice it that long. It's marvellous!
Liam Neeson, Eva Green, Orlando Bloom and more known actors.

At some point Orlando's character says something along the lines of "To whom is Jerusalem important and holy? To the Jews whose holy place was destroyed by the Romans? The Romans who saw it destroyed by the Christians to build their own holy place on it? The Muslims who then did the same? No! It is important to us ALL!"

Very profound. Now if only people could understand that...

I enjoyed it. I wish they made a second movie. I'm not finding anything except the book.

he wrote the 1st one in 77, the 2nd one took till 86 to come out. the series is now 18 with 2 more on the way and is actually 3 distinct series in that fictional universe he created.


right now we are in season 2 of heroes my second time and her 1st.
lots of twists and turns

Heroes was okay and I was following that. But then they had this strike, writers' strike or something, and it took forever before they could get on with the next season. When it finally came out I gave it a try but I couldn't get into it anymore.

i watched it in sequence on dvd so i didn't feel the break

While 'action' and 'thriller' are established genres many people know any genre film can have good action and thrills.
Most war movies are full of action and most horror movies are full of thrills.
Fear gets the heart pounding and the senses alert.

I've watched this film 3 times and it keeps getting better.

That may be the case but it's not what I asked for in my OP. I don't need fear and blood flying around my head, and seeing and hearing how people are being cut to pieces and crap like that.
If someone cannot handle that sort of thing and starts a thread to specifically ask for other stuff, that's pretty clear? If a movie that's not considered 'horror' has an overdose of violence I also switch it off btw.
There's also a horror thread. Fine with me even though these movies aren't for me.

I will check out your new suggestions :) There's sometimes gems among them so I do appreciate it!

I didn't want to watch it at first, but I'm so glad I did! It's really good and the end made me cry.

No worries, I was just making a general statement about genres.
Not all war and horror movie fall into your stated dislike qualities.
Plus, sometimes I label a film as horror based on the premise.
I don't sort for thrillers or war.

For example Last Full Measure (2019) has scenes from war but the film is about honoring a forgotten hero after the war.
Thirty-four years after his death, Airman William H. Pitsenbarger, Jr. ("Pits") is awarded the nation's highest military honor, for his actions on the battlefield.
Its listed as a drama/war movie for genre but its more of a dedication/drama.

Blood and Money (2020) is listed as a thriller.
Tom Berenger is getting pretty old...

Force of Nature (2020)

But worth watching. In a bit of an unusual hijacking movie because it is different from the regular scenarios.

Hi Crystal, I know that you like science fiction so I'm going to recommend 'The Expanse'. The first series in particular is very much a thriller type story and the characters are brilliant.

The Expanse started out really good but as each season progresses it is falling into HWD (Hollywood Writer's Disease) aka CSC (California Snowflake Condition).
The science fiction is falling to the wayside in favor of political and social issues. In other words, its becoming a soap opera just like most of the TV shows being aired.

I think that there's some truth to that. The first series was excellent but the second and third, although still overall ok, did have a few wobbles. I'm still giving it a chance, as there's little in the way of hard science fiction available now.
