Topic: Prostitution | |

They say prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. To this day prostitution is considered a vulgar profession. Although some radical feminists do consider it to be empowering to women (many disagree). Perhaps this is not the point. Could it be that the reason for these perceptions are not really about the job itself, but just the simple fact that a prostitute earns MONEY at all (at one time it was the only paid job for a woman)? It seems possible that since todays working women, although not selling sex, are expected to work for cash (pimped out), and so there is something vulgar in this expectation itself (explained). Thoughts?

Thoughts? None of the above. I think it is women have SEX when & with who they want & how they want. That freaks people out. Especially men. And that society & religion & culture does NOT view the men as JUST as guilty . And does not view the actions of men as commiting a crime, a sin or immoral act. |

Thoughts? BS Where do you come up with this stuff Estelle? Even in early Roman times women owned businesses and were respected. |

I guess the topic could be summed up as 'money not sex is the root of all evil, true or false'? Anything that is miss used or abused is evil. Even food. |

can't quite figure out if it's prostitution in and of itself that is evil
or if it's "prostituting" oneself in any kind of work where the almighty dollar is earned in exchange for services rendered.. |

The true and dictionary Meaning of prostitution is selling oneself so everyone is guilty of it at times. If are on sites like this and you have a profile on you are selling your personality.

I think that's a very appropriate analogy. For those of us still looking for stable jobs, we're told to "sell ourselves", to make ourselves "look more attractive" to prospective employers. Our resumes are our advertisements, and our ("voluntary") self-identification is our profile picture. On the point of actual prostitution as a business, however... Frankly, no matter how much you want to dress it up and make it more legitimate, it's still going to be a blue-collar job. You are being paid for performing manual labor. Anybody who meets the physical requirements could do the job. (Sure, if you add in an emotional or psychological aspect, you could do the job better, but we're talking minimum requirements for the position, not preferred.) I think - my guess - is that's the part where the pro-prostitution feminists get good and irked. They want to transform prostitution into a white-collar or culturally-respected job. I just can't see that happening, honestly, in any culture. |

please get it right...the correct quote is "the love of money is the root of all evil" This dramatically changes your question

for my money, legalize and tax it, I think it would go a long ways toward reducing sex related crime.
Add an automatic death sentence for anyone convicted of a sex related crime |

Isn't prostitution selling yourself FOR SEX, not just selling yourself? Clear difference. We're comparing apples and oranges.

Have you ever gone on a date because you liked her as a person. 'rubbed you wrong way' and I expect ya may need to take it with grain of salt but let me just say this when a man meets a woman for a date, forks out money for dinner, for a movie or a show, for drinks, gets off his butt and dances with you, listens to your conversation and opens door for you in short puts in time, effort and expense is it not with the hope that affection may occur at some point? if the woman postpones this or give him that peck on cheek or a kiss goodnight..he must decide if it is worth it to pursue |
