I would like to contradict this with
"there is no such thing as a free meal" other than that, the source of your quote was an awesome man, and i would listen to his advice any day. |

Legal prostitution, means better living standards for women, means less poor women, means less women in bad marriages, means more tax money, means less poverty for children, means more children will be able to afford college, means not enough of them willing or need to serve the military, means mandatory military service for men. are you saying you're in favor of prostitution instead of other career choices? this seems a complete turnaround from your original post? people who hold jobs already have a better standard of living, less poverty, health benefits for themself and family, retirement plan, pay taxes, etc. feminism is about the equality and empowering of women. isn't it a giant leap backward to equate prostitution with the modern woman who holds a career or a job? isn't part of the goal of the idea of feminism to be self sufficient and not to have to depend on a man? not that I'm bashing either gender because everyone needs someone and we all have something to contribute. |

Calley how those women and children from myLai are coming along.... i just shortened it up a little... |

Wait....prostitution is being linked to the military, chimps and now the DEA? CHAOS I tell ya Well, the term "hooker" comes from the last name of an army officer. Captain Hooker, united states cavalry. The prosty-toots, were known as "Hooker's girls", then later, simply as " hookers". Just an FYI. |

Prostitution is illegal in the first place because why?
Lots of reasons. Among others: 1. Religious morality passed down/social purity movement in the early 1900's. Women wanted it to be illegal. 2. Public health concerns, especially with the spread of HIV. Where prostitution is legal for some reason it's lauded that women get checked every 3-6 months, or even week, even though that won't help anyone sleeping with the prostitute between tests. HIV can be transmitted but not show up on a test for several months. There is no 100% safe method of sex that absolutely prevents the transmission of HIV. 3. Lack of enough people giving a crap to try and change the law, lack of ability and resources for those in the profession to change it. Majority of those in prostitution now aren't there because they have much of a choice. They're not really going to unionize and start lobbying the government for change. They're going to focus on surviving and getting out. Not to mention anyone that stands up and starts defending prostitution or shows to have any kind of intelligent knowledge of the subject is going to be asked "how do YOU know so much about it? Why are YOU so concerned about it? A little whoremongering there are ya?" And if public officials come out and really push it then wait for the paparazzi frenzy trying to get pictures of the guy with hookers and rumors to fly. 4. Lack of the ability to really regulate or control it. Where it's legal it's not universally legal. It's not legal in all of Nevada. And only brothel prostitution is legal, in certain counties. If you only make brothels legal, it won't change anything. It doesn't disincentivize human trafficking or illegal prostitution and even encourages it to some degree. At best it creates greater demand for prostitutes in one area, and higher competition among prostitutes for the legal jobs. If you make all prostitution legal, individual operators/streetwalkers, and brothels, you incentivize human trafficking, otherwise you need to create a government entity roughly the size of the current government in order to regulate and enforce human trafficking and legal, consensual prostitution, if you want the laws and regulations to be enforced to any degree of relevance to give the illusion of things changing. why is prostitution illegal in the US
Womens temperance social purity movement? Forgot the name. Bunch of christian women lobbied and pushed for anti prostitution laws. Legal prostitution, means better living standards for women, means less poor women, means less women in bad marriages, means more tax money, means less poverty for children, means more children will be able to afford college, means not enough of them willing or need to serve the military, means mandatory military service for men.
Things would only improve for a minority of women. |

as a christian, I don't support prostitution, but I also don't agree with making it a crime to be paid for sex...
I consider it hypocrisy for a culture that so values adults 'right' to have sex with other adults for any other number of reasons... |

Hey! I've heard that somewhere before. |
|

|
After reading what I've missed I have something to say...
I was never comparing prostitution to military, I was never disparaging the military, it is you who is disparaging prostitution. As someone stated before it is no secret that the military offers educational opportunities to those who would otherwise not have them. And there is nothing wrong with that. We should respect military. We should also respect prostitution. We should not disrespect anything or anyone obviously. This is only people sharing thoughts, nothing personal. |

I was never disparaging the military, it is you who is disparaging prostitution Estelle, I myself merely asked why prostitution is illegal. You are the one who first mentioned the military when you made your absurd claim that the legalization of prostitution would result in fewer people joining the military. |
