FORT GREENE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Spike Lee had some harsh words for whites moving into predominantly black neighborhoods in New York City while speaking at a Black History Month lecture at Pratt Institute on Tuesday.

As 1010 WINS Carol DAuria reported Wednesday, the director and Brooklyn native said that white newcomers to neighborhoods like Fort Greene and Bedford-Stuyvesant are doing the wrong things.

Lee told the audience that while hes all for democracy, he doesnt like that whites are trying to impose their standards and wealthy ideas on everyone and everything, DAuria reported.

According to Lee, with white gentrification comes disruption. The entire rant was transcribed by New York magazine. Heres an excerpt:

Heres the thing: I grew up here in Fort Greene. I grew up here in New York. Its changed. And why does it take an influx of white New Yorkers in the south Bronx, in Harlem, in Bed Stuy, in Crown Heights for the facilities to get better? The garbage wasn’t picked up every (expletive) day when I was living in 165 Washington Park. P.S. 20 was not good. P.S. 11. Rothschild 294. The police werent around. When you see white mothers pushing their babies in strollers, three oclock in the morning on 125th Street, that must tell you something.

rofl rofl rofl

still no word on how those 'demands' are harmful or unreasonable to expect for those students,,,

like when people 'demand' impeachment, the process costs money that has to come from somewhere, but they have the RIGHT to voice the expectations they have from the ENVIRONMENT from which they are a contributing member

without people putting them down as moochers and future welfare recipients,,,

smh

but I have become accustomed to the double standards of our culture and the 'freedoms' people are supposed to have,,,,,most my life

nothing new to see here,,,

He is entitled to his opinion.

There are many influential people that want diversity, as long as it is in someone elses neighborhood..

Wrong threads but just as wrong here. And there is an old axiom that seems appropriate, one that keeps doing the same things and expecting different results.

Can't say I would really disagree with him except for why anyone would want to live in any part of that cesspool.

They looked at him and politely said "we would prefer a black salesperson, please" the white salemans says, "i hear ya, i would rather have a white customer"... they fired him 15 minutes later...

First, the quote is the definition of insanity from Ben Franklin...

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." (Benjamin Franklin)

Being stuck in the old ways is not always bad unless it impedes true progress. And then there are the politicians, to most an enigma unto themselves, but not really to others.

How can a politician be but corrupt. To win a political office requires an immense amount of money in comparison to the reward(salary). So who has that kind of money, why those that would benefit from that election many times over. So how can politics be other than corrupt.
