huh... i thought they wanted benefits from the government, but don't want the government involved?...kinda wierd, dontcha think?

I'm not even saying they don't deserve the same benefits, but just that.......maybe this could be looked at another way too, as to why we are allowing the state entry into our relationships to start with.

because the state and government controls the laws that hand out the benefits, i suppose... from what i understand, all states have a law that gives beneifits to non married couples that live together, the same as being married... texas, for example, will not recognize a same sex marriage, but will hand out benefits to same sex couples that have been living together

I like that idea, the benefits part anyway.

As for the first part, still don't like it.

well, the reason texas won't recognize a same sex marriage is because it is a federal mandate, not a local one...it was a a local event here in houston where a firefighter died while on duty here, and his second marriage he married a sex change person, a man turned into a woman. the big court battle was over his benefits as a firefighter, the he-she wanted it, while everyone else was saying it should go to his children from his first marriage. after all was said and done in court, they ruled that everything goes his children, because same sex marrages are illegal, and that nulled the marriage. i think that was they way to go, because his kids were is blood relatives, and deserved it more.
