What a bunch of crap. Who cares if there's gay's in the military. The bigger issue is why these dumb idiot politicians are wasting time and money over this stuff!!

Let the gay's serve, as long as they can pull a trigger and kill an enemy, they are soldiers. Quit worrying about their damn sex life and start addressing bigger problems!!

there is no question about 'letting them serve',, they already CAN serve,, the issue is what conduct will be permissible WHILE they serve,,,

You don't know if what is true? That other countries also allow gay people to serve in the military? If you don't believe it, do a little research. I'm sure you will find that the US is certainly not the only country that allows it.

i thought you understood... i don't care enough to do any research about it..to me, it's a bad idea

It"ll be okay.

I doubt many gays will sign up for a Combat MOS.

Less than 5% of our entire Military is 11B (Infantry).

Most of the Military are in a support role. In the Infantry we called them rear echelon units.
We also realized how important their role is to the success of the Combat units mission.

Many rear echelon units are co-ed already.

They are not combat units.

I can't see openly gay men serving in an Infantry unit though.

They might serve but the peer pressure will keep them from being blatantly open about it.

they have units with males and females housed and showering together?...

well, if thats worked out,, than its a testament to the 'discipline' of the military and homosexual heterosexual housing and showering is likely to work as well,,

on a lighter note, although I dont agree with it

this will make at LEAST two historic pieces of legislation under OBAMA,,,making it less likely he will be anywhere near the 'worst of' that people on these threads sometimes hope for

future homosexuals, and sickly, and immigrants will definitely be appreciative THIS administration existed,, and I have a feeling those three groups will be the majority of americans in the not so distant future

Why isn't it? Gay people are already in the military. Many who serve have no issues with it. Just because you don't want to be near gay people does not mean they should have to lie to be in the military.
nobody lied..dadt...remember?...just means our military is going downhill...no more mighty nation....just the laughing stock of the world now

Why would this make the military go downhill? Why would this make the US the laughing stock of the world? You do realize that many other countries allow gay people to serve in their military, right?

Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Passes Senate Procedural Vote

ANNE FLAHERTY | 12/18/10 11:58 AM

WASHINGTON — In a landmark vote for gay rights, the Senate on Saturday voted to advance legislation that would overturn the military ban on openly gay troops known as "don't ask, don't tell."

The 63-33 test vote all but guarantees the legislation will pass the Senate, possibly by day's end, and reach the president's desk before the new year.

The House had passed an identical version of the bill, 250-174, earlier this week.

Repeal would mean that, for the first time in American history, gays would be openly accepted by the military and could acknowledge their sexual orientation without fear of being kicked out.

More than 13,500 service members have been dismissed under the 1993 law.

Rounding up a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate was a historic victory for President Barack Obama, who made repeal of the 17-year-old policy a campaign promise in 2008. It also was a political triumph for congressional Democrats who struggled in the final hours of the postelection session to overcome GOP objections on several legislative priorities before Republicans regain control of the House in January.

"As Barry Goldwater said, 'You don't have to be straight to shoot straight,'" said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., referring to the late GOP senator from Arizona.

Even after the measure were to become law, the policy change wouldn't go into effect right away. Obama and his military advisers would have certify that the change wouldn't hurt the ability of troops to fight, and there would also be a 60-day waiting period.

Some have predicted the process could take as long as a year before Bill Clinton-era policy is repealed.

I can't say any of us are surprised to hear this news.Maybe now we can finally stop hearing the non stop whining and complaining from the homosexuals for a week or two until they start complaining about the new "right" they deserve.

Obama has done wonderful job screwing this country up.We can chalk up one more disaster with this repeal.I suppose Obama didn't even bother reading why DADT was put there to begin with.It was put there because homosexuals were being beat and killed by other soldiers. Why he thinks that letting gays come out of the closet in the middle of a unpopular War is a good idea is right now is really stupid. He is already unpopular with the soldiers. You think they are going to be more happy now?

Obama has been cancer to this country. Now his cancer will spread to the military.

Why would they be appriciative of Obama??....there have been gays in the military long before that clown was in the circus.

He is still the 'worst of' in many forms.

Like being a fraud for one. Pitting the federal govt. against a union state for two.
Going around the world and 'appologizing' for America to its enemies.
ObamaCare....illegally forcing people to buy something they dont want to buy.

Running up the national debt to levels that are at least 5 times that of Bush admin (which was bad enough already).

Proclaiming the U.S. to be "Muslim country", which its not and never will be.

The list goes on.

slaphead

I guess it would be bad if any of that were true.
