Sadly, Christians feel their doctrines should apply to this whole country. They do not live and let live because if that was true gay marriage would not be an issue in this country at all. One example here of course. again...these are the generalizations I'm talking about. not all Christians believe that and I know a lot of them. I don't think religion of any kind (including atheism) should be taught in public schools...learn it at home or in private school I have no problem with gay marriages. I don't care if someone isn't Christian. I don't believe that would make someone good or bad. these teachings were taught to me by my family and the church I was brought up in....so I know not all Christians believe in controlling others. even though some others believe in controlling us The fact that is is not legal in this country proves you are not the norm. there are other religions and non religious people that are against it as well for whatever reason. I don't have a problem with it. maybe it is the extremists that are the loudest about it which is why many hear that side Voting is private and it keeps getting voted down which still shows you are not in the majority. my point is that it isn't just Chrisitans...or certain Chrisitans what does voting being private have to do with anything? Christianity is the top religion in this country and voting has everything to do with the laws that get voted down. Showing still that you are not in the majority of Christian ideals about gay marriage in this country. They are imposing their beliefs on the rest of the country. thats just democracy in action it's not just (some) Christians who oppose it its also Muslims and Jews but I think it might be okay with the Hindus. I dunno about that one the gay community needs to be selling themselves, not being confrontational and bitter or they'll never make progress in acceptance So should Christians have to sell themselves and quit being bitter and confrontational to make us like them better? |

Sadly, Christians feel their doctrines should apply to this whole country. They do not live and let live because if that was true gay marriage would not be an issue in this country at all. One example here of course. Although I love ya, as a Christian, I must strongly disagree. I and other christians dont believe we should force what we believe on others. WE do , like anyone, have a certain standard of life we wish to live in america . So do people who are atheists or agnostics or other faiths. I dont think it is accurate to always equate a preference for certain societal structures as an intolerance to other opinions or lifestyles. There are people who lead wonderful lives without having any faith at all and likewise, there are many reasons people have to oppose whatever they oppose that arent automatically about religion or faith. I believe biology makes us different and should not be ignored. just as I would not want marital guidelines to start including siblings who chose to marry, I would not want a society that thins out the very unique marital commitment to include same sex or multiple partners. I dont think that is exclusive thinking to Christians, i think many people agree just based upon what their heart tells them. Ask most atheists if they would think it ok for a brother and sister to marry,, and they would probably say no. Many cultures allow those to marry who in our culture we consider children,,is that about religion? IS that because of the influence of christianity, or just what society at large in our CULTURE accepts as a desirable social structure? Oh no!!! Here we go with the unnatural argument. If it natural for them, it is none of your business. The only laws we need to worry about it age and mental capacity. Who they want to marry should damn well be their business and how many they want to marry should be their damn business. Stop imposing your beliefs on others. Let them live and stop referring to them aa unnatural or wrong. That is your religion talking and should not be imposed on others. Damn. Where did I post about anything being unnatural? Read your post. |

ITs not always about hate or intolerance. I dont think people hate adults but we impose upon them a law that they may only have sex with a certain BIOLIGICAL age of person. I dont think we hate siblings, but we impose a law that they may not marry each other as well. Beliefs are a part of life and not always about religion. Beliefs are what are posted in these forums everyday by spiritual and non spiritual people. IT is because we are in a free country that we can speak and vote on just that what we BELIEVE is best. I think it is far too simplistic to blame any religion for their government or the way the majority chooses to vote on any issue. WE do allow people to sleep with whom they chose. But marriage is more than just who you chose to sleep with it is much more complex issue. I am for equal rights and civil rights, I dont believe that committed people should have any fewer rights than married couples anymore than I believe a woman should have fewer rights than a man. But, due to bioloty, a marital couple is different than a committed couple and a woman is different than a man. I just dont want to confuse those things and toss them aside as irrelevant or hateful or intolerant. WE all are here because of a man and a woman, i dont think the significance of that BIOLOGICAL bond that has been legally recognized as marriage needs to be thinnned out to include other relationship choices just so people can have civil rights. I will fight for partners of every type to have equal rights to marital partners, but not for marital partners to be defined as partners of every type.
NOTE: Biological and Natural are not the same definition. I have not said what anyone does or doesnt do is unnatural. I am stating that biologically, as humans, we are different. Our BIOLOGY is different and those biological differences and similarities are the reason behind several laws,,namely that siblings not marry. Their BIOLOGY is too close together. IT isnt because there is intolerance for brothers or sisters. |

That is degrading to the couples who are not man and woman. |

and then again there is a difference between a non Christian (or atheist) and an anti-Christian
a anti-Christian is ALWAYS gonna look for the most negative to deride the religious, in which case there ceases to be any discussion and then just becomes competing rants |

Funny but not accurate. according to you. I see you and others doing the same thing. you say Christians want to control everything and shove their beliefs down peoples throat. that is not accurate since you can't possibly know all Christians in this country alone (such as me) but yet you posted in another thread about getting Christians under control before we can get other religions under control. Stalin did this I believe. and with a lot of your posts and threads...I see you shoving your beliefs down throats. so IMO yes it is accurate you put your trust in our president and other members of congress that you like. BHO is Christian and I'm sure many of the congress is as well. our founding fathers were Christian BTW msharmony...I didn't read your post the way she did |

So they impose their beliefs onto others in areas they have no right to govern mind you. |

That is degrading to the couples who are not man and woman. Mami, I am not saying anything about natural or unnatural, I am talking about BIOLOGY. What makes some men and some women, some tall and some short,,biology. I am not degrading anyone as I have said I do believe that couples of all sorts should have the RIGHTS a marital couple does. I am defending the definition of the MARRIAGE COUPLE. Just like I wouldnt support a push to start calling female tomboys males because they do the same things guys do..biologically, they are still female. Dont think I can explain this any further. My loved one is gay, I also have a loved one who runs porn, as a christian, I dont agree with either thing BUT as a christian I still love them both and see them as no less than I because a true christian knows we all fall short ( I have shortcomings too). I just dont think people should have to ignore those things that are important to them to avoid being labeled as bigot. Nowhere have I said homosexuals are unnatural or less than anyone else. I am not hateful, fearful , or intolerant of any people, whatever sexual or intimate relationships they participate in. IT would not make sense to be. I dont hate those who lie, or who say hurtful things, I dont hate those who commit adultery, I dont hate those who covet. All these things are shortcomings but make noone any less human. I see promiscuity, adultery, and homosexual LIFESTYLES as shortcomings but the people involved in them are no better or worse than I am. WE are all human but we do have to agree upon some standards, I am sorry that you see that as a bad thing or something Christians have imposed. and , like a TRUE christian,,, I still love ya dragon,,,lol |
