Who needs your stinking pity? I would mock God in his face. He could strike me down only to prove my points.

This very response proves a point that really gets me riled up. People who say these types of things are obviously not saying it for the edification of the person to whom they are saying it. Therefor it only leaves others. So are they saying it to show other people that they are better than the person to whom they are speaking? Are they saying it to convince others of their own piety? Or possibly trying to convince themselves of their own special place in their view of the grand scheme of things? It reminds me of a college roommate one year who was accused of acting "Holier than thou" when in front of others by another girl in the door. And she flat out said, "Yes, I am holier than you." You know - I was thinking the same thing about the OP. I'm glad you brought it up. I was wondering why he showed up on the scene to inform us of his "superior" intelligence, but now that you've put it into perspective, I don't need to ask him. |

Judge not, lest ye be judged and Let He Who is Without Sin Cast the First Stone ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah, that's a whole lot of rationalizing there my friend. I think I have even heard a fundamentalist attempt to explain the difference to me. They referred to it as "discerning" instead of actual judgment. They were unsuccessfully attempting to minimize its potential negative impact. Well, okay so now you feel you have the right to go around "discerning" others. The point is, what makes you morally superior or qualified for that position? I can tell just by looking at you and what little you have said on this forum that you have a bit of a colorful "past". Just like most all of us here today. We as a society have established a functioning vehicle of "judgment" called our legal and court system. I just dont feel that you need or should be walking around presuming to judge anyone yourself. It should suffice that you take responsibility for your OWN actions. Discern yourself all you want. I dont care. You should have the capability with or without the "lord's" assistance to control yourself and discern right from wrong as it relates to your personal life. A lot of proselytizing and marginalization of others is not what Jesus had in mind I dont imagine. Anyway, that's what I always took the sentiment of "he who is without sin, cast the first stone" to be addressing exactly. It is asking that one take pause for a moment and actually reflect upon their own past mistakes before lashing out at another. There is no reason to morph this into something else to suit your needs or personal agenda. |

"when you give, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing" "don't pray long winded prayers in front of people to make them think you are spiritual...instead pray by yourself in a closet" "love your neighbor as yourself" "become like servants" "do not judge others" "Don't worry about the speck in your brothers eye, when you have a plank in your own" all of these verses are found in the Bible..although i may have paraphrased some...but the message is clear. People should be DRAWN to a true christian by the way they live their life, "rejoicing, even in suffering" People should see something in them...and come to them. Instead some how christians now make it their personal goal to cram as much as they can down the throats(most often unwilling) of non-christians. Judging them and doing everything else the Bible says not to do. One of my favorite quotes is from the band DC talk. "the greatest cause of atheist in the world is christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, then walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simple finds unbelievable" I'm not perfect, niether is anyone else. I'm NO ONE to judge ANYONE. However, i have my own personal reasons/experiences for why i believe what i believe and if any asks i'm not afraid to tell them. |

If you wish to avoid others simply because you find them not people that you want to associate with, then there is no problem. That could very well be construed as a mode of self preservation. One would only need open a history book to find the implications behind false judgments and just how utterly destructive the church has been in this capacity. I was under the impression you were somehow claiming the right to judge others in part based on your religious beliefs and perceived "moral superiority". If you are willing to leave it alone, then I dont see the problem. But we both know darn well that there are those that dont leave it alone and in fact take every opportunity to discern everyone and everything around them. That is what I take issue with. |

Partly I think the problem arises because fundamentalists often have the scripture thrown right back at them in respect to what Jesus supposedly said about standing in judgment of others. Basically, unless I am totally off in my understanding in some respect, he disapproved of it. This is but one quote Im referring to from scripture but Im sure there are others. Anyone can add if they want.
“Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” |
|
|
|
Trust me when I tell you Krimsa.. my take and beliefs on scripture make me about as popular as a hair in a biscuit with many Christians as well.
