The Civil War was about States rights to self government. Indirectly it was about the right to own slaves, yes, but not for all and the slave owners were less than 15% of all Southerners.
Two States, NC and VA didn't even secede until the North threatened to move a Fed Army through their territories.
Even Lincoln did not bring the cause of slavery into the war until a year after it begin (unofficial emancipation proclamation) and 3 years into it (Official Emancipation proclamation), and only then because he hoped to draw more slaves to fight for the North. Only then when he feared the North would lose.
He used it as a weapon. Plain and simple.

And taking the angle off the slavery issue is what the white supremists want to do and make it so that good ole dixy can fly proudly when it was about slavery and people who see the confederate flag will know that whites will never give in to the fact that whites and blacks are equal. It is the last remnants of the old philosophy of inequality still flying proudly today and should not be tolerated at any level. The confederate flag means to me you are a prejudice white supremist.

You can try to change history in your mind all day draggoness, but it wont change the cold hard facts.

Your mind is so locked up in hate and so closed to any to anything other than your own personal agenda or illusions that a debate of this type with you is a waste of time.

I wont be involved.....Adios

Come on , lets talk about it.
Logically..

Did whites treat Blacks badly in the past? Yes!

Is it still happening? No

What else?

Were blacks treated badly, hell yes, does it still go on today, hell yes. I have seen it personally so it is not hearsay. I would be so fricken mad if I had to tolerate the prejudices and discrimination black folks suffer, I cannot even fathom how they are not hateful and militant myself but they believe that by "turning the other cheek", they will have their rewards in heaven. I believe they should be raising ten kinds of hell over their current situation until the understanding gets got. So if you believe it does not go on today you are living in a lily white world and have no friends of other colors because it happens alot.

Not to be rude, but racism goes both ways. How many of you have had people pull the "its because I am black" card? I have scene it happen several times when race is not a factor.

I am up for equal rights. I am not however up for people coming into our country illegally, using our tax dollars, and not paying into the system. I am however, up for helping Mexico to improve its economic status.

CHICAGO - (KRT) - Rev. Billy Graham openly voiced a belief that Jews control the American media, calling it a "stranglehold" during a 1972 conversation with President Richard Nixon, according to a tape of the Oval Office meeting released Thursday by the National Archives.

The Rev. Bill Graham

"This stranglehold has got to be broken or the country's going down the drain," the nation's best-known preacher declared as he agreed with a stream of bigoted Nixon comments about Jews and their perceived influence in American life.

"You believe that?" says Nixon after the "stranglehold" comment.

"Yes, sir," says Graham.

"Oh, boy," replies Nixon. "So do I. I can't ever say that but I believe it."

"No, but if you get elected a second time, then we might be able to do something," replies Graham.

Later, Graham mentions that he has friends in the media who are Jewish, saying they "swarm around me and are friendly to me." But, he confides to Nixon, "They don't know how I really feel about what they're doing to this country."

The newly released tapes cover the first six months of 1972, with the Vietnam War and the upcoming presidential campaign the backdrops for many conversations. The tapes touch subjects as varied as using a nuclear bomb on North Vietnam (a notion quickly derided by adviser Henry Kissinger) and settling a West Coast dock strike.

They also include all of the famous "smoking gun" conversation about the Watergate break-in, known for its damaging disclosures about a cover-up and its 18 1/2-minute gap.

The Nixon-Graham remarks came during a 90-minute session after a prayer breakfast the men attended on Feb. 1, 1972.

fanta, I truly feel sorry for you. The Reverend Billy Graham never said that; and here you go again, going to that FOREIGN website.

Why you want to post from such hateful websites, bothers me.
To me it says you DO NOT WANT THE TRUTH, YOU JUST WANT TO ADD FUEL TO THE FIRE.

fanta, you seem to be a very lost and troubled soul, knowing NOT where you came from, where you are right now and do NOT know where you are headed.

It is very sad fanta, very sad.

Mirror,

I know somewhere in this thread you asked me what I thought about the comments John Hagee and Rod Parsley made.

I do not follow Rod Parsley. He is not my style of a pastor. The minute he comes on my Christian TV channel I am watching, I immediately switch to another channel, listen to FOX, my music, read the Bible or a Christian book. I am careful what I permit to come “into” my home. I now ‘zip my lips’ on this one.

John Hagee, again is not my style, but I do listen to him once in a while; he has a very huge church, is well respected. AND he is a giant of a supporter of the Jewish nation. Again, I have to use the answer I did on a prior post in this thread “You have to understand the Bible and study it from Genesis to Revelations.” I did not read or hear what Pastor Hagee said straight from his mouth, I have heard tidbits here and there from biased reporter‘s opinion, and I will not go to a website of any sorts (other than his own, and I do not feel it is necessary for me to do so on this topic).

In the Old Testament are the books of the Prophets. For Christians, the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, and other happenings in the world are prophesized all through these books.

It is in the Old Testament books of the Prophets that tells of things to come, things that have been and things that are now.

These writings are very difficult for most of us who are not deeply scholared to be able to truly comprehend.

There is what is called a “hedge of protection” that God places upon His people. But, people have chosen to toss God aside, kick Him out and tell Him to go elsewhere. When one gets to that point, God grants their requests and turns them loose to their own sin. The ’hedge of protection’ for these individuals and/or groups and/or nations has been removed. GOD WILL NOT FORCE HIMSELF ON ANYONE, and anyone who has cast God out of their lives cannot expect His love and protection till they have turned back to Him and have repented.

The MAIN point I want to make is that GOD DOES NOT cause things such as earthquakes, hurricanes, wars, poverty to happen. NO NO NO!!! BUT He ALLOWS THEM to happen. ALLOWS, ALLOWS, ALLOWS.

WHY? Very simple, to see if we, His children will turn to Him and trust Him for His help, love, protection, and to learn that Hebrews 13:5 “ I will never leave you nor will I ever forsake you.”

What a wonderful God we have to know that He will always be there for us, maybe not the way we asked or expected, but HIS way, HIS time as HE is the PERFECT ONE.

I have, time after time, heard excellent pastors, have had taken what they REALLY said and had it sooooooooooo twisted out of context that to me, this twisting is a heinous crime.

In my humble opinion, this is what has happened to Pastor John Hagee. But, Christians need not fear, because God has promised us Hebrews 13:5.

Lindyy,

You, of course, are free to believe what you will.

Personally, I don't care what John Hagee or any other preacher believes.

What concerns me more is the direction this country will take in the future.

Barack Obama has been attacked relentlessly because of his pastor, but John McCain has received relatively little criticism for the controversial pastors that support him.

I don't think John McCain personally believes everything these pastors say, any more than Barack Obama agrees with everything his pastor says.

But you can't have it both ways.

If Barack Obama's credibility is going to be attacked for what his preacher said, then John McCain's religious supporters are fair game.

I wish that religion could be taken out of the debate altogether and that both sides would pledge to run clean campaigns.

Then the candidates can focus on things that are more important like the economy, the war, etc...

Unfortunately, politics being what they are, I don't think that's going to happen.
