It may be too that my friends know I wont hear or tolerate it around me. Im not silent about much, but talk like that would piss me off.

The two in my area Ive never even heard of. They must be a very small minority and very silent!

let's see, I live in the south too and almost everyday I come face to face with the confederate flag. Somehow it is still appropriate for people to fly it and stick it on their windshields, it is very hard for me to believe that the progressive whites around don't know that that might be offensive to African Americans, yet they do nothing about it. I am pretty sure that if i stuck a swastika on my car someone would say something to me. What's up with that?

You live in the south and dont see swastikas???

It should, that was my point. The south and this country could not have become the powerful nation it is without the slave labor it used. People can say that the confederacy wasn't about slavery, they are deluded. What i find interesting is that most of the people who have so much love for that racist flag, came from families that were just as exploited by those families that grew fat and rich from it.Those who hide behind that flag are ignorant. They are probably also the ones who say "black people" should just get over slavery, why can't they get over there history then?

The Civil War was about States rights to self government. Indirectly it was about the right to own slaves, yes, but not for all and the slave owners were less than 15% of all Southerners.
Two States, NC and VA didn't even secede until the North threatened to move a Fed Army through their territories.
Even Lincoln did not bring the cause of slavery into the war until a year after it begin (unofficial emancipation proclamation) and 3 years into it (Official Emancipation proclamation), and only then because he hoped to draw more slaves to fight for the North. Only then when he feared the North would lose.
He used it as a weapon. Plain and simple.

Were blacks treated badly, hell yes, does it still go on today, hell yes. I have seen it personally so it is not hearsay. I would be so fricken mad if I had to tolerate the prejudices and discrimination black folks suffer, I cannot even fathom how they are not hateful and militant myself but they believe that by "turning the other cheek", they will have their rewards in heaven. I believe they should be raising ten kinds of hell over their current situation until the understanding gets got. So if you believe it does not go on today you are living in a lily white world and have no friends of other colors because it happens alot.

You mean when it stops happening people can move forward, right? Because it is a daily occurance if your skin is dark brown. Some days are worse than others but daily they experience a form of prejudice or discrimination and daily they turn the other cheek and go home and just try to live the great American dream even when America does not seem to welcome them.

And taking the angle off the slavery issue is what the white supremists want to do and make it so that good ole dixy can fly proudly when it was about slavery and people who see the confederate flag will know that whites will never give in to the fact that whites and blacks are equal. It is the last remnants of the old philosophy of inequality still flying proudly today and should not be tolerated at any level. The confederate flag means to me you are a prejudice white supremist.

Belushi, the Americans cannot let go of a hierarchy in the people, someone has to be superior to others and it has always been white on top. There are some in this country who will not ever let that change. I have always hoped that the generations would change it. I see some change but it is sooooooo slow and painful.

If it was not the blacks, it is the homosexuals that are less than. If not them then it is the illegals who are unworthy of human rights. It just goes on and on.
