BENTONVILLE, AR (AP) -- An inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge is suing the county, complaining he has lost more than 100 pounds because of the jailhouse menu. Broderick Lloyd Laswell says he isn't happy that he's down to 308 pounds after eight months in the Benton County jail. He has filed a federal lawsuit complaining the jail doesn't provide inmates with enough food. According to the suit, Laswell weighed 413 pounds when he was jailed in September. Police say he and a co-defendant fatally beat and stabbed a man, then set his home on fire. "On several occasions I have started to do some exercising and my vision went blurry and I felt like I was going to pass out," Laswell wrote in his complaint. "About an hour after each meal my stomach starts to hurt and growl. I feel hungry again." But Laswell then goes on to complain that he undertakes little vigorous activity. "If we are in a small pod all day (and) do next to nothing for physical exercise, we should not lose weight," the suit says. "The only reason we lost weight in here is because we are literally being starved to death." The suit also asks that the county be ordered to serve hot meals. The jail has served only cold food for years. The meals, provided through Aramark Correctional Institution Services, average 3,000 calories a day, jail Capt. Hunter Petray told The Morning News of northwest Arkansas for a story Saturday. A typical Western diet consists of 2,000 to 3,000 calories a day. Sounds like he is on a regular diet and is getting healthier. some druggies do something 2 get thrown in jail for a while just so thay can gain some weight for a few months, prepairing 4 their next binge, thay know the system and what 2 do 2 get 2 or 4 months.

At 300 lbs he was binging before he got there

he will be suing for been stuck in a cell all day next Sometomes an inmate will have a firearm smugled in 2 them, thay dont try 2 escape, thay shoot themselves, then sue the county 4 failure 2 protect them.

inmates like this one are the ones that bury the court systems with bullsh!t. Like on airplanes, if you cant fit in one seat you dont belong, double the charges see if he wont want to lose more weight. He's that hungry, make a visit to commissary like all the other inmates, *buy* more food.

Theres a lesson here. If you don't want to lose weight,don't kill people.Simple He took another life,why should he be fed in the first place?

All he has to do is get him a job in there and buy commissary like all the other inmates do. They can buy junk food if they have money on their books. I doubt anything will come of it anyway. Inmates can file suits for whatever they want but that does not mean it will go through in the court system.

Even if they lose it still costs taxpayer dollars to address the frivilous suits they file

you all seem to miss a very important point ------------- An inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge is suing the county, complaining he has lost more than 100 pounds because of the jailhouse menu. jailed in September -------------- either he should be out or they should have the trial he has not been found quilty of anything yet is being persecuted that is what is wrong with this country he is way overweight so he has to be in the wrong i hope he wins his law suit and all who look down their noses at an innocent (innocent till proven quilty)man with a complaint because he is overweight well maybe he hopes all of you that smoke burn you face off next time you light up just a thought

Maybe. In that case the justice system is in the wrong.
