All he has to do is get him a job in there and buy commissary like all the other inmates do. They can buy junk food if they have money on their books. I doubt anything will come of it anyway.

Inmates can file suits for whatever they want but that does not mean it will go through in the court system.
really? Even if they lose it still costs taxpayer dollars to address the frivilous suits they file

AS much as it puts a bad taste in your mouth, they have rights too. People file frivolous lawsuits all the time, not just inmates. EVERYONE has their right to their day in court.

and once convicted of a frivilous suit they should be barred from further filings, and have to repay every penny to the citizens they spent before they should be allowed to spend one dollar in the prison canteen.

Ask Your Doctor About Sensible Goals

Your doctor or other health worker can help you set sensible goals based on a proper weight for your height, build and age.

Men and very active women may need up to 2,500 calories daily. Other women and inactive men need only about 2,000 calories daily. A safe plan is to eat 300 to 500 fewer calories a day to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week.

sounds like the fda thinks 20+ pounds a month is not safe on an ongoing ordeal

Common sense will tell you that making a sudden and uncomfortable change in your diet might hurt you. Looking in the mirror may tell you, "So what?! I look FAT!" Rapid weight loss is appealing because the whole idea of getting it off quickly seems like the least aggravation. Taking that route could cause you long term health problems, muscle loss and even worse.

absolutely. A person should lose their constitution rights when serving time in a penal institution, sorry

sorry, I didn't mean convicted, I don't know why I typed that. I mean if you are found to file frivious lawsuits you should be barred from further filings. The judges have great discretion, and they level some pretty harsh penalties on citizens who take up the courts times with these types of suits. Inmates should not have free unfettered access to the courts for frivilous suits for many reason, cost to the taxpayer is just one of them. Everytime an inmate leaves the prison to attend court there is a safety concern for all those involved. Conviction of felony should mean forfeiture of constitution rights granted to free men/women

They do lose most of them but we cannot take the right of ALL humans to make a legal stance in cases of abuse. Even if we do not see where they might be abused. We have to give all humans that right.

You are forgetting that a conviction of a felony, and incarceration is a punishment. Not selling lady's speed stick in the canteen, refusing to serve more than one hot meal a day, suing for the playboy channel, suing for access to the dmv records, etc are not abuse suits. When I worked at the prison we would search inmates cells, and find lawsuits already filled out waiting for a name to attatch to them. I am sorry, but the amount of money spent on this could be redirected to the school system, or any other worthy issues for law abiding citizens

To a certain degree I agree with you. However, no matter what anyone else says, they are stil human, thus they have the inalienable HUMAN rights, no matter how inhumane they act.

BENTONVILLE, AR (AP) -- An inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge is suing the county, complaining he has lost more than 100 pounds because of the jailhouse menu.

Broderick Lloyd Laswell says he isn't happy that he's down to 308 pounds after eight months in the Benton County jail. He has filed a federal lawsuit complaining the jail doesn't provide inmates with enough food.

According to the suit, Laswell weighed 413 pounds when he was jailed in September. Police say he and a co-defendant fatally beat and stabbed a man, then set his home on fire.

"On several occasions I have started to do some exercising and my vision went blurry and I felt like I was going to pass out," Laswell wrote in his complaint. "About an hour after each meal my stomach starts to hurt and growl. I feel hungry again."

But Laswell then goes on to complain that he undertakes little vigorous activity.

"If we are in a small pod all day (and) do next to nothing for physical exercise, we should not lose weight," the suit says. "The only reason we lost weight in here is because we are literally being starved to death."

The suit also asks that the county be ordered to serve hot meals. The jail has served only cold food for years.

The meals, provided through Aramark Correctional Institution Services, average 3,000 calories a day, jail Capt. Hunter Petray told The Morning News of northwest Arkansas for a story Saturday.

A typical Western diet consists of 2,000 to 3,000 calories a day.

Laswell's suit was filed without a lawyer in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville.

He hasn't even been convicted of anything yet. But still, we have to leave the avenue open in case of legitimate concerns. Sometimes the bigger concern has to be paramount over the petty differences. We have to leave that avenue open. Prisons cannot mistreat them beyond the punishment that is given by the court.

truer words have never been spoken. Prison used to be a thing to fear, now they recruit people off the streets to be incarcerated to improve their gang numbers in prison. Make jails and prison something to be feared again
