Topic: Are You Sure | |
---|---|
With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance? |

Amen, and can we add: school shootings, kids killing their parents, parents killing their kids, husbands killing wives, wives killing husbands.......WOW! Glad we got love here....

Is it under consideration? I wasn't aware of it.

I agree with the pledge but if someone doesn't believe in God or what that part represents to others...then they shouldn't say it or say that part

in a country that is supposed to be founded on religious freedom, saying that keeping god in the pledge is like saying "you can believe what you want as long as we get the last word".
not every body believes in god , not every religion believes in a single god. and to keep it in there because you think it's a good idea and is going to cure these problems is a little injust to the rest of the people that live in this country. |

Maybe if people started fixing their own problems instead of looking to "God" to make everything better, we wouldn't have half the problems we do. WE, the human race, are the ones who affect how things work on Earth. Not some god or devil.

I believe it was President Eisenhower who actually added "In God We Trust". Of course, in our "politically correct" country where now nothing is correct politically, anything acknowleding God has become fair game.
Curiously, "political correctness" only leads to everything being so "correct" that the end result is even more divisiveness and ultimately all freedoms lost. Perhaps George Orwell was correct in his book "1984" look at the future, just off in his year. That's my opinion and if one doesn't like it, suck on a lemon! |

Agreed,.. the pledge seems to not have anything to do with natural disasters. Not sure where your point lies in this one.

I agree with the pledge but if someone doesn't believe in God or what that part represents to others...then they shouldn't say it or say that part What if the pledge said "one nation under Satan or Vishnu" or something, and everyone just told you not to say that part. Would that make it right? Religion and politics are like baking soda and vinegar. They're both stable by themselves but if you mix them together you've got nothing but a big smelly mess. |

They're both stable by themselves but if you mix them together you've got nothing but a big smelly mess. then i wouldn't say it. plain and simple. I won't subject it to my son either. it's a matter of choice. i don't think one should be forced on anyone regardless of what it say. I personally don't have a problem taking that part out..because of my beliefs...i can believe under God if I chose and I don't have to voice it |

her point in believing in god will fix all your problems....
i saw it on the 700club this morning. either way, i view religion like i view sex. i don't care who your with, i don't care how much, i don't care how you go about it but don't make me sit there and suffer threw it just because your enjoying it and i would really rather not know anything about it. |

I'm going to skip over the part where yu said you watched the 700 Club and hope that was a joke. So you are saying hearing about others religiosity is like hearing/seeing your parents have sex? Do I have that right? |

In my opinion....
when everyone was not so worried about be politically correct and we were allowed to celebrate Christmas and Easter in our schools (now it is winter and spring break) there was not as many school shootings, kids killing each other and teen pregnancies. So many people are so against God you barely hear Christmas songs at the mall while Christmas shopping. FYI... at the elementary school out here about 6 years ago holloween was celebrated full force with a carnival and everything but we are not allowed to say Merry Christmas or give out gifts to the kids. Just go back to the 50s and 60s when we were allowed to pray in school, the world was a much kinder place. Now our kids are not even allowed to hug each other at school so after taking God out they are trying to take away all forms of love. I believe it starts when we are young... if we grow up to respect God than we also respect ourselves and others... Im not saying that all people who do not believe in God do not respect others. I do believe that a non-belief leads towards more self gratification and less care about others. OK I will get off of my soap box now... hope I didnt offend too many people...if I did... btw.. I know I am not perfect, I am a work in progress |

I think I like the making out in line for the rollercoaster by the tweenies... because you are almost forced to watch it and can't really say anything because you are stuck in line with them for goodness knows how long. In regards to the OP I think that a personal preference is personal. Words are only words and really... it is the sentiment behind them that has significance. |
