How do YOU meet people?

Seriously, how do YOU meet people that you end up dating whether it goes sour or not? I've been single my entire life and am thinking not even using the internet is a good choice anymore or I'm using the wrong websites. find an activity (preferably one that involves other poeple) that you enjoy that also involves leaving the home and go do that activity. there should be other people there that you can "mingle" with. turn off the computer and go out and do something. maybe step outside your comfort zone and try some sort of activity that men usually show up for. spitting contests, fart lighting contests, "how long does my hair have to get before i look like a hillbilly" contests. . . . |

Hello, I canceled my DVD by mail from netflex but kept the "watch instantly" streamed to my pc, but recently heard about HULA, does anyone have that and what do you think of it in comparison to what netflex offers? Seems like all the movies I want to watch from netflex are ones I'd have to pay extra (as you netflex subscribers know they raised their rates so I canceled the dvd by mail part). So heard about HULA and thinking of signing with them. Thanks for any input you can offer. i use hulu for some of my t.v. shows, but i don't pay for the premium service from them ($8/month). some of the shows take a few weeks to post after their original air date. anymore i just download the latest episodes of the shows that i watch usually later the same night that they air. that might be more than some are willing to do. hulu's streaming quality is good as long as you have a decent internet connection. there are commercials in the shows, but they're only 30 seconds or so every so often. it's not that irritating. my roommate and i don't even have t.v. service(cable, satellite) anymore. many of the t.v. networks websites have shows available to stream as well. so you can look for episodes there. cbs doesn't have a deal with hulu so you can't get their shows on hulu, but you can get some of them on cbs.com. i think cwtv is the same way. you just have to look around. . . . |

i just finished streaming the movie "Timer" and it made my brain start working. it was overall a decent movie, but it made me feel conflicted. it's a bit of a "chick flick", but if anyone is willing to watch it i'd like to know what your thoughts are on it. . . . Tossed it on Netflix, will watch when it comes out on DVD you don't stream? . . . |

i'm about half way through the tv series eli stone. it's pretty good IMO. would definitely recommend. . . . What is Eli Stone. I have heard of it, but what is it about. I am always looking for a god tv series to rent and watch at my own convenience.... it's about a successful lawyer who starts seeing visions and he has to pick his cases to go along with what he sees in those visions. it has some religious tones to it, but overall it was good. it has george michael in a few of the episodes and i'm somewhat of a g.m. fan. that's probably what hooked me on it. it's also got a decent cast and there are some musical numbers from time to time. less in the second season. . . . |

Taking a break from FarScape to watch Tron and Tron:Legacy, then back to FarScape. Enjoying it! i loved tron as a kid. watched it again when i got the set on blu-ray and couldn't believe how bad it was. i guess at the time it was awesome, but compared to the tech we have today it looked lame. . . . |

I don't have any concrete dates yet, but after I get my Associate degree I'd love to study in Russia for a year. Does anyone have any good (or bad) stories to share about Russia? Also uh, hi! I'm new, and this is my first topic. I went to Belarus for a day. It's one country East of Russia and one of the former Soviet counties. It's still run very much like Russia and they speak Russian. I would love to go back. I will say that the culture is very different from the U.S. Not necessarily worse, but be ready for some culture shock. And definitely learn some of the language. Very few people speak English over there. I had a Russian/English dictionary which is the only thing that really helped me. I would recommend going. Be prepared though; some of the things we take for granted here in the states are luxuries in Europe. T.P. in the restroom, toilets for that matter in the men's room (in the train station in Minsk). . . . |

it all starts with the name. don't give your kid a f'd up name. it's something they carry throughout life and something easy for kids on the playground to poke fun at.
IMO it is a parents responsibility to do the least amount of damage to the lives of their children. always put the needs of your children before your own no matter how badly it may affect you or go against your wants. most importantly, teach him how to be a man. confident, aggressive, honest, trustworthy, ambitious. but what do i know. . . . |

Every time I get hurt, because a really great friend leaves me; I sign up for a few dating sites. I have this REALLY great friend; who, every time we go shopping; she goes, "See? I'm a cheap date." I have a lot of fun with her. But, now she's going her own way. Kind of hurtin', a bit sad, any really hot chicks want a new friend. Not a boyfriend, or a relationship type deal. Just someone to hangout with and do dinners and stuff..... Anyone wanna hang out with a broken hearted guy? C'mon dinners and stuff are on me.............. my only question is this: if you're just looking for a friend to hang with for dinners and such, what does it matter if she's really hot or not? i understand your loss. recently my dinner friend moved for work and now i don't have that relationship to occupy my time. and you should have more self worth. offering to pay for the activities so that someone will spend time with you is pretty bad. you could always look at craigslist for stricly platonic under the personals section. sometimes there are people there looking for others to spend time with. . . . |

I have social anxiety disorder. I was formally diagnosed not even a year ago but I always knew I had it. I'm not taking anything for it because I don't like taking meds everyday. Anyways, fellow S.A.D. people, how do you meet people? I go to school but I have a hard time just going up and randomly talking to people, even just participating in class makes my heart race and gives me a puky feeling. Any advice? definitely feel you on this one. find something that you like to do that's a social type activity and force yourself to do it. for me, i like karaoke, so i found a place and even though i didn't know anybody i forced myself to get up and sing a song. then i started doing it regularly. eventually most of the anxiety went away. i don't think it ever all goes away. i still won't approach a girl though. . . . |

I was able to (through a few friends and business connects) get a lavish weekend getaway, for myself and a lovely woman I've been seeing periodically, up in Estes Park, CO. It included a 5 Star hotel, dinner at a very fine Banquet, and a free tour guide on some of the back country trails. Needless to say it was completely awesome!! But, when she came to realize that it didn't cost me a thing but gas and tips, she thought that it lost some of its appeal....WTF?? I still had to put it all together no matter how much it cost. So....Am I Cheap.....Or Am I Genius?? ![]() find a different woman who'll appreciate the effort and that you capitalized on an opportunity. . . . |

Did it occur to you that you might be the exception? i was another one who didn't enjoy growing up "in the church", so he's not the exception. and if parents would take the time to ask their children if they wanted to go, most would probably say no. maybe not when they're kids and sunday school is more about fun then about learning about religion, but when they become pubescent things start to change. If someone believes that their religion is the right one, why wouldn't they want to share that with their children? If they later in life decide to leave the religion, hopefully they take a moral foundation with them. it doesn't take religion to teach kids morals. This thread is an example of why they don't often have long relationships! there are plenty of x-ians that can't make a relationship work as well. not believing in a god doesn't mean that an atheist/agnostic doesn't know how to love. we make mistakes in choosing partners just like the x-ians. . . . |
