Anyone been reading about Nintendo's new game mod "Revolution"??

Sounds interesting and with the advent of being able to download all of
Nintendo's games, all the way back to 1985 or so, it sounds awesome...

Found this, this morning at a scuba site re the colossal squid:

Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Mollusca
Class: Cephalopoda
Order: Teuthida
Family: Cranchiidae
Subfamily: Taoniinae
Genus: Mesonychoteuthis
Species: M. hamiltoni

Habitat & Range: The colossal squid's range extends thousands of miles
northward from Antarctica to southern South Africa, southern South
America, and the southern tip of New Zealand making its primary habitat
the entire Southern Ocean.

Diet: Colossal squids eat Chaetognaths (marine worms that are a
component of plankton) and other squid.

Predators: Colossal squids are preyed on by albatross, beaked whales,
wandering albatross, Patagonian toothfish, pilot whales, bottlenose
whales, southern elephant seals, sperm whales, and sleeper sharks.

Reproduction & Lifespan: Not much is known about colossal squids. Their
method of reproduction has not been observed and no one knows for sure
how long they live.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That sort of makes the legends about "giant" squid come to mind. Could a
diseased or ill squid actually come to the surface (or during a dark
storm?) and bring down a ship? Yeesh again...
Gradually stop eating packaged and canned foods. I buy a LOT of fresh
foods instead and prepare them myself. Aside from everything else, it is
much healthier and YOU WILL LIVE LONGER.
When fresh foods go on sale, I purchase a lot, blanch or boil and freeze
them and include a purchase date and freeze date on the bags or
containers. I don't have a lot of choices as I have to eat this way for
my own health and well-being and the health of my charge.
I used to have a very large garden where I grew most of our vegetables
and froze many but my own health issues have negated that over the
years.
I suppose that might feel like a step backwards in time, but the food is
better, better for you and you have complete control over the food
contents. I always liked that part of it too.
Have a great day all!
Aaahhhh, the plumber who was supposed to be here between 8:00 and 10:am
this morning, bugged out. He called and said he had another job that he
needed to do first as it was supposed to rain and he wanted to get that
one done before coming here as it was an outside job and mine is an
inside job.
So, I said FINE (and dandy) when do you expect to be done there? OH,
let's see uh, noon to 4:00 or there abouts. He said he would call my
around 2ish. I still have an hour before he is supposed to callish. I
was up early, cleaned out all the stuff from under the kitchen sink,
scoured both sinks and was ready and waiting before 8:00 am. I have been
walking aroud the boxes of supplies all day and even ran some errands in
there.
It has not stormed as expected but did rain a tad, It rained for about 5
minutes at noon when I was getting out of my auto to go into the Lowe's
after having to park out in the south fourty.
Anyone know a reliable plumber who can be somewhere when he says he
will, get to work straight away and be done inside an hour? Just
asking...
I paid for no less than 6 sites last summer to try to meet someone to
date, have as an activity partner and friend. It was my first attempt
online to meet someone "special" in all the years since the internet and
www became entities in our daily lives.
The difference in a free site and a paid site is that someone (some corp
or celebrity) got into my pocketbook. My bad.
It is the only difference I can see...
and all the questions they ask to try to find you a "mate" do not seem
to work all that well either. Just a waste of everyone's time.
Some really good suggestions here. I would however, like to see SOME
regulations about porn being so accessible. I know it it is the parents
responsibility (on the kid issue) but as citizens of the world, do WE
want that stuff flashed in our faces just because we click on a link?
Good Morning All!
MMMmmmmm, good coffee. I am running a little late this morning and the
plumber will be here at 8:00 (yeah, right) to install a new garbage
disposal as mine went belly up last week.
A lovely SATURDAY morning to everyone! I should SAY that before I have
to write this guy a check and get instantly GRUMPY! HA!
Colossal Squid May Be Headed for Oven
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (March 23) - A colossal half-ton squid, believed
to be the largest ever caught, may be destined for the microwave oven.
But researchers say they don't want to cook the massive creature - just
defrost it so they can study it better.
Scientists at New Zealand's national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa, have
taken possession of the beast that took fishermen two hours to land
after it was netted by chance in Antarctic waters last month and was
frozen soon afterward to preserve it.
Expert Steve O'Shea said the squid had weighed in at 1,089 pounds and
measured 33 feet long - heavier but shorter than initial estimates of
990 lbs and 39 feet.
It appears to be by far the largest specimen of the rare and mysterious
deep-water species Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni, or colossal squid, ever
caught.
Experts say the creatures, which have long been one of the most
mysterious denizens of the deep ocean, may grow even bigger - up to 46
feet long.
O'Shea said scientists at the museum are considering using a giant
microwave oven as a possible way to defrost the animal so they can study
it.
The mammoth squid could not be left to defrost at room temperature
because the process would take days, leaving the outside to rot while
the core remained frozen, he said.
"There are certain microwave equivalents that are used by industry, for
treating timber and the like, that we could probably fit this thing
into," O'Shea said. "But that is just one option."
At the time it was caught, O'Shea said it would make calamari rings the
size of tractor tyres if cut up - but they would taste like ammonia.
Colossal squid can descend to 6,500 feet and are known to be extremely
active, aggressive hunters.
O'Shea said the squid is priceless to scientists, and would be worth
many millions of dollars if insured.
Man Whose Dogs Killed Woman Acquitted
CAMERON, Texas (AP) - A jury acquitted a man whose six dogs fatally
mauled his elderly neighbor in her front yard.
The jury deliberated several hours before finding Jose Hernandez, 55,
not guilty Thursday of criminally negligent homicide in the November
2005 death of 76-year-old Lillian Stiles.
Investigators said Stiles was walking back to her house after getting
off her riding lawn mower when the six dogs attacked her. She suffered
severe bites over her entire body and was pronounced dead at her home
near Thorndale, about 40 miles northeast of Austin.
Hernandez had faced up to two years in a state jail for the felony
charge.
"I feel very sad and I give (the Stiles family) my most sincere
condolences," Hernandez said after an interpreter told him the verdict,
according to the Austin American-Statesman newspaper.
Jack Stiles, the victim's husband, was inside the couple's home when his
wife was attacked. He shot and killed one of the dogs. The other five
were later euthanized.
"We are very disappointed that it was a unanimous verdict," Jack Stiles
said. "The reason we were given is that the dogs were not previously
proven to be dangerous."
Hernandez testified that he kept three of his dogs inside a chain-link
fence with an electric wire, and he let some of the others roam his
yard. The dogs were gentle and had never previously attacked anyone,
according to testimony from his neighbors and friends.
Milam County doesn't require dogs to be locked up or leashed, but
prosecutors argued that Hernandez owned dangerous dogs.
Judge Throws Out Online Porn Law
PHILADELPHIA (March 22) - A federal judge on Thursday dealt another blow
to government efforts to control Internet pornography, striking down a
1998 U.S. law that makes it a crime for commercial Web site operators to
let children access "harmful" material.
In the ruling, the judge said parents can protect their children through
software filters and other less restrictive means that do not limit the
rights of others to free speech.
"Perhaps we do the minors of this country harm if First Amendment
protections, which they will with age inherit fully, are chipped away in
the name of their protection," wrote Senior U.S. District Judge Lowell
Reed Jr., who presided over a four-week trial last fall.
