Surely the kingdom of Heaven is within you...
A notion found in a number of religions, under different names (satva, nirvana) sadly brushed over in Christianity as a mere footnote and pleasant sentiment. ... It takes away from the headcount and doesn't fill up collection plates I guess. Jesus died for me so I could get chocolate eggs and candy in March, and was born, apparently so my parents could lie to me and tell me a jolly fat man came down my home's chimney in December and bring me Nintendo and GI Joes. Or he could have been a really cool guy with a love-and-let-live philosophy that has been co opted by the power hungry purveyors of superstition and fear. |

Considering all the mutually exclusive admonishments in that book, it is logically impossible to be a "good" person if you hold yourself too that standard.
If you hold the 10 commandments as the standard, then by doctrine a large majority of the christian denominations already fail by the time they get to #3 or #4 (depending on the tradition: This is the Sabbath day commandment...) Brushing the scheduling conflicts aside (I guess it's easier to get to the bank and the shops on Saturday for most christian folk), there are many who can't get by the blasphemy one - "OMG" when something shocking occurs, "G.D." when you are irritated by someone/something, or "God bless you" after a sneeze. Following the Catholic tradition of nomenclature 5-7 are more or less easy to keep, theft, murder, and infidelity are generally unacceptable in any society. 8 Gets really tricky - Isn't Church usually gossip central? Or are we going to consider that one a free pass since we are in the house of God when that happens? So legal false witness only? Yeah... I don't generally trust people with a rigid proscribed ethical code. Most representatives of it violate it at every turn. And what about that whole sacrifice thing? If Jesus died for your sins, then why are you worried about it? Can't accept grace? It's only by "the grace of God" that you are saved anyway. I'll refer to Full Metal Jacket on that one: "They're paying for it YOU eat it!" Of course, anyone that can state their own personal moral code clearly for anyone that asks and demonstrate their ability to adhere to it gets my respect as a "good" person no matter the name of their sky daddy. |

Well, an upbeat personality beats most other traits hands down.
Intelligence is great, confidence is nice... but don't let it get in the way. Life is too full of upsets and awkward moments to take your self seriously. I don't care who you are, it's just a great laugh if the person you are with is going off on something all determined and serious and makes a complete ass of themselves. If they can't laugh at it, or more importantly they can't stand for you to laugh, then that's primo red-flag #1. |

Ending corporate donations and so-called soft money would go a long way to putting the representation back in the hands of the citizens.
I don't mind that migrant workers want to (legally) enter and perform jobs. As long as we remain a sovereign nation these should go to citizens first, but if there is a labor deficit to fill, then okay. As far as corporations getting to buy out votes however, this needs to stop. These days, America is the best democracy that money can buy. Be it a SPiG, or multi-national, your vote and mine is easily overlooked. |

Nice guys don't win.
Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. You don't have to be an asshole, just don't be "nice" unless it's to your own benefit. |

A "kick to the curb" isn't necessary, but be firm and demand your space. If he really is a good friend, he will feel snubbed as anyone would, but it won't be long before you can have conversation back and forth without the worry of ulterior motives... no long as in 6 months to a year.
You made your choice, this is some of the collateral. |

yes I second that motion................ and you shouldnt drink if you are going to the library..................... ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT! The library is the best place to drink, unless you have to drive there, or rather from there if you are actually only going to drink once there. There is no other way to properly appreciate Plato, and Shakespear, and all those other stuffy boobs who filled pages with nonsense. Libraries are not a bad dating pickup spot, but kind of a dull first date. Seems like you were pretty much outgoing, so he is probably too blame. Perhaps he had a different perception of your or is very shy. Either way, the best thing to do is shout out the best four letter word in the dictionary: NEXT! |

Very true.
Of course there is love, which translated from man-speak means "Can I rock your world yet? Because I'm really horney..." There is love which translated from girl-speak may or may not mean anything but comes across as "I'm psychotically obsessive, and will do literally anything, no really anything at all please... I hate you!" And finally there is the sort of more normal love which pretty much means the same as "I like you enough to put up with you for the foreseeable future. Let's make a big judgment risk and move in together." |
