some say that they must be of the same sex where the breeds are conserned,,and some say that familurality between the dogs is crucial.
if your dog is older,he might not welcome another one.

and as for the latex hunt..it might be because of the fact that their sence of smells is 100's of times more accute then ours is..and the toxics of the latex might be as catnip to cats..

as well as you shouldn't.
if your dog starts to feel that he can overpower you..even if he;s been your best friend all these years,there might be a chance that he can turn on you.
to play is fine,but the domme must be you.
