I'd love to see him turn the political world on its head and pick Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) - Nebraska. Without some true bipartisan spirit and action, we are screwed. Me too, and I believe that is what will happen! If he fails to become President though I wonder what it will do to Hagel's career. Picking Sen. Chuck Hagel wouldn't be the worst move he could make. More on Sen. Hagel: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/07/27/ftn/main4297769.shtml?source=mostpop_story |

I've been thinking about who Obama should pick as his VP, and the more I think about it, the more I think Hillary Clinton might be the best choice for Obama against McCain. I know that some of you wouldn't vote for Obama if this happened, that some of you would, and that some of you won't anyway because you're voting for McCain. She does have experience, and it's that experience that just might help lock in a win in November. Just my opinion. You're missing an important consideration hiker. That being, many like me who wont vote for an Obama-Hillary team are Independents! We would most likely jump over to McCain. Polls already show Obama has regained the Hillary supporters who initially fled after the primaries. So he would not gain many votes by choosing Her as VP. He would however lose a lot by picking her, and unlike the life long loyal Dem's who weren't likely to vote for McCain when Hillary lost the primaries. The Independents he would lose by picking her would, and most likely end up adding to the McCain vote! He would seal his defeat by such a move. IMO!! Fanta, Good point. My concern here is Obama picking a virtual unknown for VP, who would have to be sold to the electorate. Whoever he picks will need to have the charisma and experience to help Obama's campaign win over McCain. Obama has the advantage now, but a lot can happen in a few months. IMO |

Other reasons he might consider Hillary as VP is because there are still a lot of Hillary supporters out there.
Also, whoever ends up in the White House has to win the hearts and minds of not only Independents, but soccer moms and Nascar dads as well. There are a lot of soccer moms out there and they vote. |

I hate to say it, but the prognosis for brain tumors is usually not good.
I knew someone when I lived in Colorado who had one, he did the chemo and, while it held off the disease for awhile, he eventually succumbed. But sometimes miracles do happen. |

It's still happening. http://www.sacredland.org/historical_sites_pages/black_hills.html From the article above: 'The Indian Claims Commission, the Court of Claims, and finally the Supreme Court in 1980 recognized the 8 Lakota Nations' rights to the part of the Black Hills specified in the 1868 treaty. But instead of ordering the government to return the land, the Claims Commission awarded a financial sum equal to the land’s value in 1877 plus interest. This sum now totals $570 million—a considerable amount but still much smaller than the value of the natural resources which have been extracted from the Black Hills, estimated at $4 billion. The Lakota have refused to accept the money on the grounds that one cannot buy and sell sacred land.' 'The land claim settlement money sits untouched in a bank account while the Lakota, who have the lowest income and highest unemployment rates in the country, continue to demand the return of their land.' What could they do with $570 million? They could use it to create businesses, like a casino. Or build schools or hospitals. They could build an ethanol plant. Or do some other worthy thing with the money. Implementing any of these ideas would improve the lives of Native Americans living in the area. But instead, the Lakota elders stubbornly resist. |

Sen. Stevens indicted: 7 false statements counts The first sitting U.S. senator to face federal indictment since 1993, Stevens has been dogged by a federal investigation into his home renovation project and his dealings with wealthy oil contractors. And he's running for re-election. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080729/ap_on_go_co/stevens_indictment Is this shocking or standard procedure? If it turns out to be true, I think it would be just another instance of the foxes running the henhouse ever since Bush Jr. got elected President. |

The US Senate has approved a rescue bill designed to prop up America's battered housing market. The new law creates a $300bn (£150bn) rescue fund to help thousands of homeowners get cheaper loans. It may also be used to bail out the struggling mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, which own or guarantee around half the nation's mortgage debt. The bill has been approved in a very short time. President George Bush is expected to sign it into law next week. The housing crisis is causing serious problems for the wider US economy. Almost 740,000 US homes entered the foreclosure process in the second quarter of 2008, according to research firm RealtyTrac. The worst-hit areas were Nevada, California, Florida and Arizona, which had seen the biggest house price rises during the boom years, and the largest volume of sub-prime lending. The bill's Republican critics say it will cost US taxpayers billions, and query the wisdom of bailing out irresponsible homeowners or unscrupulous lenders. So quick to bail out the industries who made bad loans, so slow to bail out the homeowners victimized by predatory lending. Try to start a small business and see how quickly the government will bail you out if it goes belly up or you go bankrupt. Oh, that's right. You can't declare bankruptcy anymore. The banks and credit cards companies put an end to that. |

I'd like to say 'we won't get fooled again', but I know that as long as there are politicians that lie and distort the truth, we will get fooled. Again.
And history seems to keep repeating itself. |

Do you believe in the conspiracy theories about 9/11 ?. I don't think the evidence is convincing enough. You can use any 'facts' to prove your theory. I don't, however, think we've been given all the facts concerning 9/11. |

And who welcomed illegal immigrants with open arms?
President Bush Jr., that is. So he lets the Mexicans and other foreign nationals in to pick vegetables, while a few terrorists sneak in under the radar. And they don't have to look like Al Quaida to sympathize with their cause! |

This question is FOR MEN ONLY. Women can comment but I want the guys to answer with their preference. What is the most important personality trait that makes a woman "relationship material"? 1) A sense of loyalty 2) A sense of caring/nurturing 3) A sense of humor 4) Intelligence 5) Other The answers are the ONLY CHOICES. If yours isn't there, answer OTHER. TY 4. 5) Other With me, the most important attribute in a woman is generosity. I've seen so many women who are selfish and only think about themselves. The woman I'm with now is generous. And it doesn't take a lot to impress me. |

Hum, so you resent well educated foreign born people coming to the U.S. to work legally. These people will pay taxes and most likely live fairly law abiding lives in order to stay in the U.S. The U.S. is made up of immigrants after all...but that is another argument. Perhaps you should examine the real reason this is an issue. Fat, lazy, badly educated citizens. Parents who would rather turn on the t.v. than spend time with their children assisting and educating them. If corporations in the U.S. have to import people for skilled positions it isn't the fault of those people who worked hard to qualify for those positions it is the fault of those who chose to sit idly by content to watch t.v. instead of educate themselves. There are people in the U.S. who are highly educated, but cannot get jobs, not because they're lazy, but because the corporations want to hire cheaper workers and import them from overseas. The corporations do not have to import people for skilled positions. People who are already educated here in the United States can be easily retrained, but the corporations don't want to do that. |
