His past and continued foreign policies and the manner in which he handled them is enough for me. Bush went into office with Zero foreign policy experience. There are many leaders of this country who have started out in that boat. To cover up for their weakness a leader picks others to sit on his cabinet who do have experience in that arena. That's okay and part of being a leader is to pick key people to fill key positions, but the buck always stops at their desk. They must accept the responsibility and all that goes with it. That is a major contributor to what kind of a leader they are. Bush's leadership decision to pick Cheney as VP, and then to follow Cheney's self interest and Rumsfeld's aggressive advice is what has caused this mess now! Instead of accepting his mistakes, and handling them with positive leadership, Bush has consistently lied and used excuses of coincidence to cover up for his bad leadership decision. He chose to follow their advice against all his available expert military leaders advice in Iraq, and has done the same with the available foreign policy advisers advice. The buck stops at the Oval desk, and Bush is guilty of being one of the worst leaders this country has ever known. Benefit of doubt for 72% of this country has ran out. For me it ran out a long time ago. I was probably one of the first to see his weaknesses as a leader. Actually calling them weaknesses is not the correct phrase. What they are, is a premeditated plan by the NEOCONS to unravel our Constitution as needed, and lead this country in the direction they chose fit to best achieve their self-interests. Bush is a puppet on a string, and his replacement, if they get their way will be John McCain! You may not be smart enough to realize the truth in that, but slowly over these last 8 years, 72% of the population has figured it out. You go ahead and give him benefit of the doubt, most Americans are way past that point. I take it you've never heard the saying, Fool me once shame on You, Fool me twice shame on Me. Putin flew home Saturday to handle the Russian war. Bush stayed yucking it up with Olympians, only flying home today. Day 5 of the outbreak of hostilities in Georgia. Condi, was on vacation somewhere and has made phone calls, but that's the extent of the Bush Administration's response to the situation their policies have caused in Georgia. In a statement in the Rose Garden, Bush said there was an apparent attempt by Russia to unseat the pro-Western Saakashvili. He said further Russian action would conflict with Russian assurance its actions were meant to restore peace in the pro-Russian separatist areas. So we see he is very aware of what has been happening while he yucked it up in Beijing for 5 days. Doubt???? Putin criticized the United States for viewing Georgia as the victim instead of the aggressor, and for airlifting Georgian troops back home from Iraq on Sunday. "Of course, Saddam Hussein ought to have been hanged for destroying several Shiite villages," Putin said in Moscow. "And the incumbent Georgian leaders who razed ten Ossetian villages at once, who ran elderly people and children with tanks, who burned civilian alive in their sheds — these leaders must be taken under protection." Putin makes a fool out of Bush, and Bush's Presidency has made a fool out of America. Doubt?? You go ahead, Im all doubted out! Fanta, Well, what a revelation! Condi Rice fiddling while South Osetia burns! Not surprising, considering she's working for the laziest President who ever lived! |

I've been defending McCain as a decent guy but one, admittedly, not very capable of tackling the difficulties facing our great country. This YouTube clip is in a sense the tip of an iceberg. http://bravenewfilms.org/blog/39179-mccain-s-youtube-problem-just-became-a-nightmare What do you think? Oceans John McCain as President is the equivalent of a cranky old grandpa as President. If he doesn't get his milk and cookies in the afternoon and a nap, he'll invade some country. He won't care who. |

R.I.P ISAAC HAYES!!!!!!!
|
|
Isaac Hayes, the baldheaded, baritone-voiced soul crooner who laid the groundwork for disco and whose “Theme From Shaft” won both Academy and Grammy awards, died Sunday afternoon after he collapsed near a treadmill, authorities said. He was 65. Hayes was pronounced dead at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis an hour after he was found by a family member, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said. The cause of death was not immediately known. With his muscular build, shiny head and sunglasses, Hayes cut a striking figure at a time when most of his contemporaries were sporting Afros. His music, which came to be known as urban-contemporary, paved the way for disco as well as romantic crooners like Barry White. And in his spoken-word introductions and interludes, Hayes was essentially rapping before there was rap. His career hit another high in 1997 when he became the voice of Chef, the sensible school cook and devoted ladies man on the animated TV show “South Park.” “Isaac Hayes embodies everything that’s soul music,” Collin Stanback, an A&R executive at Stax, told The Associated Press on Sunday. “When you think of soul music you think of Isaac Hayes — the expression ... the sound and the creativity that goes along with it.” Hayes was about to begin work on a new album for Stax, the soul record label he helped build to legendary status. And he had recently finished work on a movie called “Soul Men” in which he played himself, starring Samuel Jackson and Bernie Mac, who died on Saturday. Steve Shular, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said authorities received a 911 call after Hayes’ wife and young son and his wife’s cousin returned home from the grocery store and found him collapsed in a downstairs bedroom. A sheriff’s deputy administered CPR until paramedics arrived. “The treadmill was running but he was unresponsive lying on the floor,” Shular said. The album “Hot Buttered Soul” made Hayes a star in 1969. His shaven head, gold chains and sunglasses gave him a compelling visual image. “Hot Buttered Soul” was groundbreaking in several ways: He sang in a “cool” style unlike the usual histrionics of big-time soul singers. He prefaced the song with “raps,” and the numbers ran longer than three minutes with lush arrangements. “Jocks would play it at night,” Hayes recalled in a 1999 Associated Press interview. “They could go to the bathroom, they could get a sandwich, or whatever.” Video Hayes remembered Aug. 10: Isaac Hayes, a pioneering songwriter, Grammy-winner, and the voice of Chef on “South Park,” has died at 65. NBC’s Brian Williams reports. Nightly News Next came “Theme From Shaft,” a No. 1 hit in 1971 from the film “Shaft” starring Richard Roundtree. “That was like the shot heard round the world,” Hayes said in the 1999 interview. At the Oscar ceremony in 1972, Hayes performed the song wearing an eye-popping amount of gold and received a standing ovation. TV Guide later chose it as No. 18 in its list of television’s 25 most memorable moments. He won an Academy Award for the song and was nominated for another one for the score. The song and score also won him two Grammys. “The rappers have gone in and created a lot of hit music based upon my influence,” he said. “And they’ll tell you if you ask.” Hayes was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. “I knew nothing about the business, or trends and things like that,” he said. “I think it was a matter of timing. I didn’t know what was unfolding.” It all started at Stax A self-taught musician, he was hired in 1964 by Stax Records of Memphis as a backup pianist, working as a session musician for Otis Redding and others. He also played saxophone. He began writing songs, establishing a songwriting partnership with David Porter, and in the 1960s they wrote such hits for Sam and Dave as “Hold On, I’m Coming” and “Soul Man.” All this led to his recording contract. In 1972, he won another Grammy for his album “Black Moses” and earned a nickname he reluctantly embraced. Hayes composed film scores for “Tough Guys” and “Truck Turner” besides “Shaft.” He also did the song “Two Cool Guys” on the “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America” movie soundtrack in 1996. Additionally, he was the voice of Nickelodeon’s “Nick at Nite” and had radio shows in New York City (1996 to 2002) and then in Memphis. He was in several movies, including “It Could Happen to You” with Nicolas Cage, “Ninth Street” with Martin Sheen, “Reindeer Games” starring Ben Affleck and the blaxploitation parody “I’m Gonna Git You, Sucka.” In the 1999 interview, Hayes described the South Park cook as “a person that speaks his mind; he’s sensitive enough to care for children; he’s wise enough to not be put into the ’wack’ category like everybody else in town — and he l-o-o-o-o-ves the ladies.” But Hayes angrily quit the show in 2006 after an episode mocked his Scientology religion. “There is a place in this world for satire,” he said. “but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry toward religious beliefs of others begins.” Co-creator creators Matt Stone responded that Hayes “has no problem — and he’s cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians.” A subsequent episode of the show seemingly killed off the Chef character. I care. RIP Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac! |

life is funny... How is John McCain's Affair Different than John Edwards'? by Cenk Uygur Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 01:49:32 PM PDT We have this weird notion in America now that if a politician is caught in an affair that his career is done. We seem to be saying that what he did in his private life effects his policies or how he governs. But we all know that isn't true. We know that because almost all of our great presidents, and great leaders throughout history, have had numerous affairs. Obviously it didn't hurt how they governed at all. * Cenk Uygur's diary :: :: * I love the idea of someone saying Alexander the Great can't lead his empire because he's cheating on his wife (by the way, doesn't Alexander's bisexuality single-handedly destroy the idea that gays can't serve in the military). How about Genghis Khan? He had so many affairs that nearly 1% of the entire world population has his genes. Not fit to lead? And there have also been men of great compassion who led noble fights while still doing ignoble things in their private lives. We are all human at home. We have now heard the stories of JFK receiving sexual favors after speeches in his limo and partying with several women on a yacht while his wife was delivering. But those are all in the past - so they don't count. But John Edwards is caught having an extramarital affair and the overwhelming assumption is that his political career is absolutely over. How does that make any sense? Does John Edwards care less about poor people today than he did yesterday? Would his affair lead him to change his position on NAFTA? How would it alter his policy on Iran? Some will claim, as they did with Bill Clinton, that it's not the affair but the lies that went along with it. Really? Did JFK come out and tell the American people - or his wife - "by the way, while my wife was in the hospital I was having an affair with not one, but several women at the same time"? No, of course, he lied too. Every man that has ever cheated on his wife has lied (and so has every woman who has ever cheated). It is part and parcel of the affair. Now, we get to the most relevant question - if John Edwards' political career is done, why isn't John McCain's? John McCain had a well-documented affair on his first wife, with his current wife. He has admitted in the books he has written about his life that he ran around with several different women while still married to his first wife. And don't forget that he left her for a younger, richer woman - multi-millionaire Cindy Hensley who is now Cindy McCain - after she had been severely hurt in a car accident. So, why are McCain's actions any more excusable than Edwards'? Because it was thirty years ago? Does that wash it away? Will we be fine with Edwards running for office again in a couple of years because then it will all be in the past? What is the statute of limitations on an affair? Remember Ronald Reagan, Nancy Reagan and Ross Perot were so upset with how John McCain dealt with his first wife that they didn't forgive him for a very, very long time. Perot still hasn't forgiven him. In fact, he said recently about McCain dumping his first wife for Cindy, "McCain is the classic opportunist. He's always reaching for attention and glory." So, I want every pundit who condemns John Edwards today to tell me what the difference between him and McCain is and why John McCain shouldn't also be run out of politics for his adulterous affairs and what he did to his first wife. You make a valid point! |

Atleast it was with a woman. I'm thinking that "liberal" politions cheat with women, and "conservative" politions cheat with men (while yelling about how gays are destroying the world). That's because they can't get a woman. |

vote for Obama...he'll disband the military and just negotiate with ppl who despise us...probbly with the same results as the eastern Europeans who negotiated their standing with Stalin after WW2 Ah, yes, the old appeasement argument. Where to start with this.... Let's start with Islamic people...it was not The Islamic people who bombed the WTC...it was a group of fanatics. Look around for numerous examples of Christian fanatics. There are no shortage of them so it shouldn't be hard. Should we care about the torture of Taliban fighters or anyone else in our custody? Yes we should! Do you know why? Because we have agreed by treaty to certain standards of treatment in order to help insure the safety of our captured military personnel. Going to argue that others haven't respected those agreements? Go ahead but once we stop we lose what makes this country great along with the power to negotiate in good faith in future. You will find mention of Jesus Christ in the Koran. I am not a Muslim nor am I well enough versed in the Koran to get into a theological debate. Christians are considered "people of the book" The 'insurgents' in Afghanistan were trained, armed and paid by the United States of America in an effort to stick it to Russia when they were in Afghanistan. We created them in many ways. Had we honored our commitment this mess might not have happened. Again, lots of historical evidence that the U.S. just doesn't learn from it's past mistakes. Zealots...well...Muslims obviously have no corner on that sort of thinking... The original post was a form of zealous punditry. |

Obama is clueless about gas also then Here is Obama's energy policy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzZNP4tTfV0 And Obama had the audacity to call the gas tax holiday a gimmick. What a gimmick - fill your tires up with air and that will save more oil than we can get by drilling. A lot of Americans are self employed and own businesses and the gas tax relief would have helped far more than what Obama was saying. His figures mostly applied to people that work for someone else and only drive to work, school, errands, etc. Most people in this country work for someone else. |

Lots of comedy... Family Guy, Hannity, Orally... Plenty of yuks on Faux. I confess to watching Faux for Family Guy and American Dad. American Dad seems like a parody of the perfect Republican, one who hates liberals and sees a terrorist lurking behind every corner. I like it when he shoots the toaster. |

When the Gov starts dictating what you eat through legislation is a bit much for me!! LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles City Council has approved a one-year moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in a low-income area of the city. The moratorium unanimously approved today is a bid to attract restaurants that offer healthier food choices to residents in a 32-square-mile area of South Los Angeles. Councilwoman Jan Perry says residents at five public meetings expressed concern with the proliferation of fast-food outlets in the community plagued by above-average rates of obesity. Nearly three-quarters of the restaurants in South L.A. are fast-food outlets. That's a higher percentage than other parts of the city but the restaurant industry says the moratorium won't help bring in alternatives. http://www.nysun.com/national/la-blocks-new-fast-food-outlets-from-poor-areas/82825/ Put that french fry down!!! Gov. Arnie signed a law banning trans fats in foods, but not fast food restaurants. http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-me-transfat26-2008jul26,0,6105346.story |

I imagine he might have trouble addressing this issue specifically without a detailed list. Do you know why? BUSH USED MORE SIGNING STATEMENTS THAN EVERY OTHER PRESIDENT BEFORE HIM COMBINED. Keep in mind those presidents went through conflicts here in the U.S. and abroad, dealt with assignations and impeachment proceedings along with the great depression. Still Bush managed to "OUT SIGN THEM ALL COMBINED" George W. Bush issued 23 signing statements in 2001; 34 statements in 2002, raising 168 constitutional objections; 27 statements in 2003, raising 142 constitutional challenges, and 23 statements in 2004, raising 175 constitutional criticisms. In total, during his first term Bush raised a remarkable 505 constitutional challenges to various provisions of legislation that became law. That number may be approaching 600 challenges by now. Yet Bush has not vetoed a single bill, notwithstanding all these claims, in his own signing statements, that they are unconstitutional insofar as they relate to him. Rather than veto laws passed by Congress, Bush is using his signing statements to effectively nullify them as they relate to the executive branch. These statements, for him, function as directives to executive branch departments and agencies as to how they are to implement the relevant law. A list of signing statements 2001-2008 can be found at: http://www.coherentbabble.com/signingstatements/TOCindex.htm Yes, and that is why we have a government that works in secret. What people don't know about they can't object to. Like D i c k Cheney meeting with Enron, Halliburton executives and others in private. In private because he didn't want the public to know what kind of deals he was cutting, because some of them might be illegal or a conflict of interest. D i c k Cheney just being VP is a conflict of interest because he worked for Halliburton and STILL owns stock in it. Everything about this administration has been about making the Bush and Cheney families and their crime family richer at the expense of the American people. |
