Topic: draft?? | |
---|---|
Im for the draft just because of all the teens that have no respect or
direction. Dicipline builds charactor... for those who live thru it anyway. Mabe they should start by rounding up all the gang members and using them for front line fodder. Someone has to crawl around in the underground complexxes. Just a thought.... BUT THEN THEY WOULD PROBABLY KILL EACH OTHER INSTEAD OF THE ENEMY.. ?Problem still solved? I agree that the politicians kids should be on the short list too..2nd in line behind the gang bangers. |

yep!!! they may have to stop playing their x box and hike up their
pants! |

Kinda funny that SOME of the ppl that are all for the draft on here are
too old to get drafted. Pretty easy to support an ugly proposition when it won't affect you directly. Do you have kids? Are they old enough to get drafted? If so, why wait? Why not just drive 'em on down to the local recruitment centre and sign 'em up? It's real easy to sit at a puter and mouth fatuities, but it AIN'T that easy to actually put yer money where yer mouths are. Those that have already served their countries in a combat zone need not reply negatively to this post. You have done your job and you at least have the background to discuss this topic intelligently. |

SOUNDS LIKE I HIT A SORE SPOT! MAYBE ALL THE MOMS KIDS WOULD GROW UP AND
GET A LIFE RATHER THAN SIT ON THEIR ASS AT A MCDONALDS OR STAR BUCKS! MOST YOUNG PEOPLE DONT KNOW WHAT A HARD DAYS WORK IS!AND YES I WOULD BE GLAD TO DRIVE THEM DOWN TO ENLIST! I GUESSWHEN I WAS WORKING THAT I FELT THAT THAT IS WHAT I HAD TO DO TO GET THINGS IN LIFE BUT MOST... NOT ALL WONT EVEN GET THEIR HANDS DIRTY ! IVE SEEN IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN!.... ALOT OF SOFT PEOPLE ARE OUT HERE!!! |

there are good arguments on both sides but i'm in favor of a draft. it
is a completely valid point to say that someone who doesn't volunteer does not fight well but some of the people that volunteer don't want to fight either. they will fight when the battle starts or they will die. just because they institue a draft does not mean that it has to be active . they will draft a few during peace time but i don't think it would be an obscene number or anything because you have more volunteers than ever(before iraq anyway). |

Did you read my essay?
Just imagine, if you came back from Iraq or Affganistan, and driving down the road you saw crackheads standing on the corner selling their goods, and when you get a job doing construction, half of your coworkers weren't even American! How would you feel? |
|
|
|
i wouldn't care but that is my opinion.

Opinion's are good, I'm interested?

Kingbreeze. The difference between volonteering and draft is that
volonteering you make the decision, knowing the risks involved, to join in the armed forces of your nation. A draftee has that choice removed. It's making the decision that makes for a better soldier, going in with your eyes wide open. A Soviet general was once asked what he feared most most. His response was "Canadian troops with American equipment on German soil." |

Yes Karma. But even the all Volunteer's force is shaky.
You have those who just want to reap the benefits of the military and not really want to serve. When a war is started they try to file for Conscious Objector some fucking BS like that shit! |
|
|
|
Hasn't happened here yet. Though we did have some Americans come up here
when the biological waste hit the rotating blades. It may be because of differences in the two forces's recruiting techniques, tarining, beifits. Can't answer that one. |

my opinion is formed off my personal experiences and the fact that i was
going to join the marines when i was younger and the decision to join was based on my desire to serve my country and defend the constituion that members of my family fought for in previous wars(even though i don't often agree with the decisions being made by the poiticians who are sending us there). that decision was made(even at a young age)with the realization that that the whole world(not just the u.s.)is a pretty shitty place with all the lowlifes running around on the streets but they are not the ones that i would be defending this country for. the people i would be defending it for would be the honest, hard working people who struggle just as much as the lowlifes but still maintain their cgaracter and integrity by keeping their nose to the grindstone and sacrificing for their families the way my role models did for theirs. they always tell the troops when they go in to stay out of the politics of why you are there and do your job. it may sound pretty simple but that is my opinion and it was not a difficult conclusion to come to. let me just say that i was not able to join but if they instituted the draft and for some reason i was able to go, i would. |

Well I'm 51 and found out I can enlist Reserve. So the cigs are going
and in the spring after a bit of exercise I'm (hopefully) back in the green machine. Can't get back into infantry but can get into Military Police. |

i understand the difference and have put alot of thought into how i feel
about the choices i make and why. this just happens to be one of the things that not alot of people agree with me on(nothin new)but i always follow my own advice and would never make a comment on anything if i did not follow it or live. i understand that this is a powerful discussion for alot of people as i had a grandpa and a stepdad who were drafted and an uncle who joined voluntarily. i know what is at stake for families and people but when you consider your point(as i will)will you at least consider mine and add that we have soldiers in iraq who are terribly over extended on their tours because we don't have enough man power to cover the globe and i'm sure a weary soldier does not completely have their mind on what they are doing especially since they are missing their families as well. they do a good job and they need to be brought home. i appreciate both of your comments though and i can see a little of where you are coming from. i'm not disagreeing with you because you are right on the points(fanta, i did not read your essay btw)i just came to a different conclusion and that is part of the things that make this the best country on the earth....take care guys |

that's cool man. i wish you the best of luck in your journey and anyone
who walks with you. maybe one day they will change things so that i can get in but as of right now it ain't lookin like it will ever happen |

Take care. I do understand about your troops being over extended trust
me. Some of the Canadians who have bought it in Afghanistan are Reservists. We are also over extended. |

i know and none of them should be left out there for so long. it's not
like they are on a f'in camping trip out there. they need to come home and rest and get back to a semi normal life for a bit. i don't want to turn this into a political thing and ruin the post but i'm sure you can already see how i feel about iraq and nobody should be their in the first place, we should all be in afghanistan. |
