Topic: Cats - declawing | |
---|---|
I say no to declawing. It is painful to cats. they cut off the tip of the toes of the cat. I read an article from about 8 years ago from someone who was bothered that their cat was scratching their furniture, and getting that surgery (it is surgery). If your furniture is that important, maybe you should not have pets. Cats need to have their claws.

I had 5 cats and never declawed for all the reasons you listed.
Also it takes away their best tool, for all their activities. Mine also never clawed the furniture or anything else because I also always hat a scratch pole around for them to exercise their claws ;-) |

Might as well put your beloved cat to sleep... They need their claws.
There are behavior changes one can learn to help them not claw. I can not imagine the pain a declawing can cause. |

I've been reading up on this recently. I don't think it's something I would do to my fur babies. I just have things all over house for them to scratch. I made a huge cat tree recently with lots of scratch areas.

Hum have always heard of some doing this myself I'm not a cat person.. But have had a couple outdoor ones years ago.. I would never have one de-clawed...
Just the thought of ripping their claws out just so they did not scratch my furniture is crazy.. I have known many that have cats and they never tore up their furniture they had a post to do what they need to on and they will use it.. Gotta teach them just like teaching dogs to potty outside.. |

I have one cat for years, she has claws and doesn't destroy furniture!
She uses a scratch pad and loves it. They have to be replaced about every three months. : |

No way. I would never inflict such pain on my kitties. They are outdoor cats as well, and yeah, they have to defend themselves.

Growing up, in my family, we always had cats. We would never consider declawing them. They could go outside whenever they wanted, they could stay inside too. They were very happy cats.

Do we have the name and address of these bast*&∆π
I know a few felines who would be happy to pay them a visit, and show them the error of their ways We could start a club And why stop there?! Next stop Trumps testi$*∆π We'd get this sh∆π sorted in no time Well, barring a few snack, wash and snooze breaks, but hey, you've got to have your priorities right. Prrrr |

Get cheap furniture, no problem, and consider getting rid of wall to wall carpeting that holds the hair. Don't think a neat freak would have a cat anyway. I love all kitties. Would never dream of chopping off their toes... cringe...

Declawing a cat is not necessary. Its painful due to breaking there knuckles to take there nail and root. There is alternative methods.

Cats have to shed the outer layer of their claws on trees or furniture.

I love my cat. Don't declare them. If God didn't want them to have claws he wouldn't have gave them to them. Cat lover.

Laura, I agree with you. Cats are too cool. I've watched them climb trees and they enjoy it. You can trim the tips of their nails and it doesn't hurt them and they can live indoors and outdoors.
