Topic: Shutdown continues

After day 22 of the partial government shutdown the democrats are still playing the game of resist and deny. This is a tactic that is better suited for squabbling children or rival gangs. Not for the U.S.Congress. Why were the democrats all in on a barrier three years ago . Nothing has changed on the border with the exception of it being worse. But now it's all about Trump. Three reasons this is happening, #1 they don't want Trump to accomplish another campaign promise, ( so many so far) which explains why his base is still about 96% support. #2 they want to bring in foreigners and provide for them to win their votes. #3 they want the country to suffer a set back of some kind so they can blame Trump and he might lose the 2020 election. The way it looks now , Trump wins.

not quite. There is already money for the 'barrier' that hasnt even been used yet.
The ADDITIONAL money is a TRUMP ploy too look for a 'win' by holding the budget ransom instead of by negotiating like he allegedly is so wonderful at ...

nothing is 'worse' at the border.

no one with sense cares about Trump and his empty boasts and promises, which included a wall at the expense of MEXICO, not American taxpayers and certainly not at the ransom of american paychecks

no one is deciding on the wall for 'votes' from illegal immigrants

no one is rooting for any 'setback' just to blame stupid Trump

the way it looks now. with Trump supporters, he wins even if he murders someone in central park, that was ONE truth he has told.

that sounds identical to the daily rant from the left. So what if he said Mexico will pay for it, it's a minuscule amount compared to the amount that all those immigrants on the border now and the thousands more headed this way. Not many empty promises from Trump he's doing most things he said he would do, far more than the " stupid" Obama . So you think almost 50 % of your fellow citizens are senseless . Well who the hell are you to say your opinion is worthy and those who think we need border security is non worthy. Very shallow thinking.. I don't think Trump has murdered anyone but not so sure about Hillary's past w/ white water.

I agree !

Democrats Agenda is to get rid of Trump . However, they have done nothing protective for this Country's economy.

50 percent? no, thats not what I said.
the US has approximately 325.7 million people

in the 2016 elections roughly 66 million people voted Hilary
roughly 63 million voted Trump

which meant more than HALF who voted were sensible
And more than half my fellow citizens didnt vote at all

I also did not say border security is not worth it. I happen to know we already have it, nothing has changed despite Trump snake oil alerts, and it is not a level of urgency WORTH holding up the paychecks of so many Americans.

No ! You said if you agree with building the wall you are senseless , this time last year 38% wanted the wall now 48% want wall. The experts that are on the border say we need a wall or barrier , watch the numbers rise that support a wall. The 1.5 billion you speak of is the money that was already allocated he's liking for an increase in funds. Why won't the dems. Support it now like they did a few years ago. Makes no sense to law abiding citizens. The simple truth is Trump wants to secure the border. Democrats want to play games while they vacation in Puerto Rico and let folks go without their pay. How many democrats in congress give up their paychecks. I know several republicans are.

please show me where I posted this 'if you agree with building the wall, you are senseless" and I will retract it.

During all times of the year, many sources poll THEIR audiences or whatever and they get response from those who RESPOND. And at any given time, those different polls and source can come back with different percentages from those participants.

That number is not close to all of my fellow citizens so those percentages are not representative of a statement about what half of all my 'fellow citizens' feel.

I understand the concept of using bills to get one's own way. But the budget for the wall is not needed urgently enough to hold up the government or people's paychecks. It is also NOT what he campaigned when he claimed he could do it WITHOUT TAXPAYER MONEY. I would wager plenty of rich people and rich politicians would give up 1 or 2 percent of their income to appear noble in a push for their 'cause'.

The truth is nearly EVERYONE wants 'secure borders'. The only debate is about whether they need to be more secure, what has happened that they suddenly need to be so urgently more secure, and what measures are needed and at whose expense.

What amazed me is how you read into what msharmony wrote to totally misunderstand. She wrote "no one with sense cares about Trump and his empty boasts and promises, which included a wall at the expense of MEXICO".
Which you interpreted to mean that those who support the wall were senseless.(?)
What she said was no one with sense cares about Trump. You went on a rant about something you TOTALLY MISREAD. Perhaps you should read more carefully in the future.
I think your over reaction is how wars get started.

Congress (both parties) have been playing with immigration for years with very little accomplished. If the repubs and dems actually wanted to resolve the shutdown without Trump's support, they could do that. All it takes is agreement between enough members to make a veto proof majority. Based on the history of Congress, that isn't going to happen. I doubt that the House and Senate could even pass much of anything to reopen the government even if Trump agreed to sign it.

I have to believe it is mostly about politics with neither side willing to risk losing votes from their base in 2020. Until enough pain is experienced by the taxpayers, the shutdown will continue. I expect Trump would compromise for 2-3 billion for his barrier.

Ok, a group of congressmen will not accept their paychecks because of the shutdown. Nice gesture, but none of these furloughed employees will loose a nickle because they aren't working. They will receive their back pay once the shutdown is over.

I was taught in school, and by both of my parents and grandparents, to put away at least six months wages, (a year, even better) to cover your butt just in case of layoffs, injury, sickness, or anything that disrupts your paycheck. To displaced workers- Did you? If not, well hey, it sucks to be you. Lots of jobs out there, better go get one. I don't feel the least bit sorry for you because you were so short sighted. Besides, most creditors of government workers are cutting them some slack because of their situation.

interesting, I was taught to watch your back. so if illegal immigrants are victimizing people, I dont feel bad for them, because they were short sighted, why should taxpayer money be wasted on their 'safety'?

see how insane that sounds?

those on furlough will NOT be getting reimbursed their pay

only those actually working the hours will eventually get paid

furloughed number about 400,000 of the 800,000 affected by
shutdown, they may choose to return their jobs with no backpay or not...it's up to them

The House on Friday cleared a bill that would ensure back pay for federal workers missing paychecks as a result of the partial government shutdown, as well as guarantee payment for employees affected by any future closures.

The measure passed with broad bipartisan support, 411-7. All seven votes against the bill came from Republicans.

"On the first day that some of our federal employees will miss their paycheck, Congress is saying and guaranteeing that workers will be paid not only for this shutdown, but God forbid if we have any future ones, that their pay will be guaranteed," Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Friday.

President Trump has indicated he would sign the bill, which the Senate passed unanimously on Thursday.

Thats a blessing. now if only banks, renters, utilities and other debtors will agree to not come after payment until whenever the shutdown ends ... but Im not holding my breath there.
