So I guess we should stop trying to protect our borders because it's not easy or cheap or fast enough process for immigrants to come here the " right" way. The lesson to learn here: if it's hard for you than you should cheat and lie to get what you want instead of working for a better life. That is the kind of attitude we don't want in this country.

Some of these posts here really sound a bit like a person's worth is only based on their intelligence, wallet/ bank account...

Sounds a bit like the beliefs in Nazi Garmany, about getting rid of "undesireables"..those who they viewed as "less than"..however one chooses to define that.

Scary.

Yet I bet these same people view abortion is wrong, because it is a human life and...as such, is valuable and worthy of protection.

FWIW...my dad's parents were country club people, my grandfather worked for BB & T bank.
My dad started his own business (printing) in the early 70's...
His parent peobably voted a straight Republican ticket...
My dad?
He voted Democratic, and we had several converesations about who he was douing better under...
I remmeber him saying he hoped thing improved under Clinton (back in 1992), because they were sucking petty bad business-wise when Bush was in office (for him and his associates anyway..
He was involved in many organizations (as a way to get business contacts), so, I'm sure he knew what he was talking about.

MY opinions and feeling come from my own observation and research, knowing people from all walks of life and various countries (my mom was an immigrant from Germany, wasn't a citizen until several yeas after comibng here with my dad)..
I observe the human condition, and am ~all for~ whatever makes life better for the most people...
Not for an elite group of white people who can look down on the poor and POC and disabled as "less than"...

Jesus said "whatever you do unto the least of these..."
And many other things..
Plus, he had no love for the rich, elite rulers.....something most Republicans who claim to be "Chjristain" evidently forget.

I bet your parents did not sneak in to this country illegally , and that is the sticking point to this crisis. Why should people be allowed to sneak in ahead of people trying to come here the right way. Some people are just so bent out of shape because Trump won and is still winning despite the resistance coming from the left that is deviding this country like never before. It's not fair for taxpayers to fund the non-sense or the fiasco going on at the border. The only impeachment talk should be against Nancy Pelosi for dereliction of duty. She is one disturbed and deminted old bag that doesn't understand that border security isn't her call. She is there to do what's best for our country .She works for us but she acts like it's all about her.

Ok, so your lesson learned in life: when the going gets tough than cheat and lie to get what you want instead of working for it. Great lesson, I hope you aren't a teacher.

When the 'right' way is tied to financial status, I dont fight for it so much. sorry.

I have been through the immigration process PERSONALLY. I know how tedious and long it can be and the FINANCIAL requirements. those who need it most would never be able to do it the 'right way', so they make a better life for their family the best they can. I dont feel animosity towards them for this. And I certainly dont care about investing in making it EVEN more difficult than I happen to KNOW it already is.

It doesnt make it any more legal, but it doesnt meet the level of concern that I would put investing in keeping them 'out' ahead of all the other actual crisis citizens face on THIS side of the border.

rofl Show me where i lied ? I can point out at least a dozen statements of yours that are not true .whoa
you say this is trumps shutdown, well I see Trump willing to NEGOTIATE, but not Nancy. It's her way or nothing. So I give her credit for keeping it going. If you don't condem the blatant lies coming from the liberal media than you are to blame for spreading those same lies. Every time you call Trump a dingbat or racist is a lie . It's your opinion but that doesn't make it true. I have no reason to lie. Trump is doing the things he said he would do, that's why I voted for him and would again right now. He's trying to do what this country has needed for many years. He's making this country stronger and safer than ever before. What is the democrats plan for this country? They have no plan, just a lot of hot air despairaging our President. Not a plan to advance this country's greatness.

All I know is that Pelosi and other Dems spent a week in Hawaii and then ended up in Puerto Rico partying instead of being in DC to negotiate. THEN they decided to use a military jet on our dollar to take them to Brussels, Egypt and finally to see the troops in Afghanistan. They have BUSINESS to conduct here in the US of A. Thankfully Trump put a stop to that. It was stated very nicely and sweetly in his letter to Nancy. And if she wants to book commercial flights, then do so. All I really care about is that "we" don't vote for Socialism. I do not want to live in a country like Venzuela or Cuba or Russia ...... do NOT vote to lose our paychecks, our rights, have electricity for a few hours per day, etc. etc. People do NOT understand what socialism truly is, especially our college age kids. and yes, Russia IS a socialist country. Communist first, but in reality its socialist.

I dont know anyone who voted for 'socialism' as described here.

Socialism tends to start small and just get a small foothold as in the EU and the socialist democrats here. It will slowly erode capitalism and the free markets as it attempts to correct what they view as societal inequality. The true focus of socialism is to make all equal in most ways with the end result being some people from the bottom tier have a little better life while the vast majority have a poorer life. When those who w
ere hard working, productive people start seeing their future worse off, they tend to not work as hard. The end result is an economy that fails. Funny thing about socialist governments, most of those in the government do not make any of the sacrifices that the masses do.

Do you truly believe that the democratic party and people of this country really want a socialist goverment sir ? If so why hasnt a socialist party ever formed ? Even my boy Bernie doesnt want total socialism .
You're a very intellegent man that uses facts to get his point across . Please dont fuel these far right nutjobs with this kind of contreversy .
I thank you in advance and look forward to your reply
I think you don't know what you believe other than joining your liberal brain dead commarads in saying anything negative about Trump. Bernie'calls himself a socialist , AOC is socialist, and Obama had many socialistic views. It's totally fine for people to hate trump if that's your choice but please try to invoke a little integrity and espose your hate with truth not lies.

Interesting. Though I find exploiting the 'liberal vs conservative' angle is kind of the OPPOSITE of bringing people together.

But it does fit the title thread regarding 'see a want, fill a want'

I think it does bring people together, when someone realizes they were hood winked and lied to and they still have the foresight to # walkaway let's people come together. A good thing.

I think the label 'liberal' or 'conservative' when used to negatively assign poor attributes to everyone in a group is never a good thing.

but whatever, still interested in movements aimed to unite and encourage discussion.

no mention of liberal or conservative in either post. Except on your post. But your right, what ever, I'd like to here of more positive movements like the previous one mentioned.

This is the age of instant 'fame' because of how many people have access to the wide world of media via the internet.

word of mouth has never been so powerful or spread so wide and the right marketing and spin can take people (especially on YouTube) into a type of recognition and wealth they may have otherwise never accessed.

Its interesting to me that so many movements are being created, some reasonable, and many that go from reasonable and grow into the extreme due to no real structure in place to concretely define them.

the common factor is that with billions of people on the earth, many of them accessing internet, it is not difficult to find large numbers who will agree on just about any topic, and thus, a movement. I think it is cool when people use movements as a way to unite instead of demonize though.

like this group:

State Bags, an accessories brand with a give-back model, has today launched its newest charitable initiative inspired by athlete Colin Kaepernick’s famous defiance within the NFL.

The campaign, titled #WhatDoWeTellTheKids: WhyWeKneel is the latest installment of State’s aim to aid in social education programs for children. This particular campaign focuses on local athletics and law enforcement, aiming to bridge a gap between the two.

The brand has photographed and conducted interviews with athletic coaches as well as former NYPD and Marine Corps officers to examine both sides of the argument for kneeling, while also parsing the politics, social actions and public issues of our time.

State Bags has built out a web site with content dedicated to these issues and has also made a donation to Operation Conversation: Cops & Kids to mark its launch.

State cofounder Scot Tatelman said of the initiative in a statement: “As our business has grown, so has our platform and responsibility in using it to shed light on social issues and injustices that impact marginalized populations. Our newest #WhatDoWeTellTheKids project, ‘Why We Kneel’ shares the often lost narrative around Colin Kaepernick by featuring coaches, former NYPD and Marine Corps officers in communities most affected by the issues Kaepernick has brought to light. What are they telling their kids…and what are their kids telling them?”

Id love to see more 'movements' aimed at discussion and coming together rather than 'them bad/us good' division tactics. to tag on to Dodo's 'good news' theme, have you read about any unifying movements or organizations to pop up recently?

yes. One where people are thinking for themselves and and rejecting their former beliefs. #walkaway campaign . Goggle it.

I don't know why these people ranting about "illegals" aren't the LEAST bit cncerned about the many thousands that came here through airports or on a ship...and have *long* overstayed their Visas....making them illegal too.. spock

Oh...probably because they are not "brown" people...

http://www.npr.org/2019/01/10/683662691/where-does-illegal-immigration-mostly-occur-heres-what-the-data-tell-us

Race or color has nothing to do with it. The only positive thing about overstays is they were at least honest, somewhat reputable people when they first entered the country; we know who they are. They should be arrested, charged, and deported the same way as someone who came across the border illegally. They are both illegal to be in the country.
Amen oldkid , 100%right.

The real difference is Kavanaugh was interrogated by a hostile gang that found him guilty before any investigation had begun and A.O.C.has been disputed and questioned by members of congress and the media who wonder how the country will pay for all her freebies. Intelligent folks see the differance.

do 'intelligent' folks worry about all the 'freebies' the other representatives and politicians are using?

Kavanaugh was interviewed for a JOB, he was questioned about an allegation, thats how the country works, someone accuses you of being unfit for a lifetime position as SCOTUS, you are given an opportunity to address it in an interview to determine the best candidate for said LIFETIME position. If any group of individuals should sail through and understand that concept, it should be a JUDGE.

So many people in this country are quick to twist the truth into something that resembles their paranoid narrative . The hell with integrity as long as they can get the sheep to follow. The way our country works is a person is innocent until " proven guilty" no matter how many morons scream guilty or racist or sexist it's all just blather until the real facts come out.

and how do we go about 'proving' guilt without questioning the accused, exactly?

K is on the court, people can quit whinging and move on. He was a judge. he knows the process of being accused and answering to it, I never understood the pretense of being so offended by it. You are going to be a lifetime judge, you shouldnt be offended merely by questions unless you got something to hide.

as far as racist or sexist, thats a judgment call, not so much about 'facts' but what those facts mean.

whining? The left has done enough whining for the whole country , bunch or sore losers. How embarrassing it must be to be wrong on every issue like the democrats are every time not to mention that even the fake stories they create backfire on them. Who in their right mind takes any of you serious.

There are many problems in our country that Congress has been unwilling to deal with. They are more interested in pandering to their base and getting reelected than solving problems. Possible solutions include term limits, Congressional rules that require bipartisanship, and pressure from their electors. Unfortunately, we have become more polarized and unwilling to even understand the other side's position.

Neither side is going to just give in so unless they find a different solution the shutdown will continue.

I agree with you 100% sir ! Problem is even when congress has concensus the idiot in charge can muck that all up just by watching fox news and changing his little mind .
you keep cracking on FOX news but have you ever what he'd those two marble headed dinks on the " morning joke show" no news just trump is unfit trump supporters are stupid , trump is going to jail on this one , the walls are closing in . Please tell me how many citizens being killed or raped by illegals is enough before you see a crisis , or how much crap int the streets along w/ homeless clogging the cities is enough to make you want to do something.

1. If you do research..you'll find that, based on actual population...Hispanics commit the least amount of crimes.

Based on actual population, blacks commit the most crimes.
Why aren't you for banning black people?

2. Most homeless are white dudes...or black....do your research.

#1 Blacks are citizens of this country#2 I have seen figures that would dispute your research on who commits more crimes , regardless we don't need any more criminals here that aren't supposed to be here.#3 if most homeless are citizens of this country then let's commit our resources to those folks in stead of bringing more in and depleting our funds even more. Research done on my part. Your just using talking points

None are so blind as those that refuse to see
Exactly my point
what I see is queen nancy and crew are on the losing side, common sense people know we have a problem or crisis or emergency who gives a ---- what you call it . Same as a wall, fence , barrier , what ever, that's one of the stall tactics the dems. are famous for. even Latinos that are here legally want a barrier, why because those are the jobs the illegal immigrants will be going after. Please tell me how many citizens being killed or raped by illegals is enough before you see a crisis , or how much crap int the streets along w/ homeless clogging the cities is enough to make you want to do something. Or maybe democrats like living in that kind of filth. Just saying.

Bush 41: we have a border crisis.

Clinton 42: we have a border crisis.

Bush 43: we have a border crisis.

Obama 44: we have a border crisis.

HRC (candidate): we have a border crisis.

Trump: we have a border crisis. Lets build a wall and end the crisis.

Democrat's and Media: OMG, trump manufactured the boarder crisis!

FWIW, I have videos of all the presidents (Bush 41 to Obama 44 and Hillary) stating we have a boarder problem and need to limit illegal aliens. Now they are espousing open boarders. Hippocracy.

You want hypocrisy?

How about why none of THOSE Presidents raised hell about having a wall??
Can't blame it on Democrats havng a majority..they didn't during all* that time..the Republicans had it for quite a while..so, why all of a sudden is this an emergency??

Thats why i asked "protecting citizens from what exactly"?
Still havent got a logical answer . Just more of trumps propaganda and lies .
you can lead a blind dog to water but you can't make him drink. How's that for a logical answer. Here's another. None are so blind as those who will not see.

Protect U.S. citizens from what exactly ? what whoa
Lol, from what? Man pull your head out of the liberal cloud you're seeing through and see clearly what's going on. Not all trying to cross illegally are scholars and potentates many come here to take advantage of liberal freebies and sanctuary cities to hide in while they rob and rape and kill. We've needed a barrier for years. Ask the experts securing the border now. Oh that's right queen nancy says cut the grass and well be good. What a joke.

9/11 is a day we should never forget,we were brought to our knees because we were blind to the fact that we were vulnerable and not unbreakable, no set up or inside job that is just idiotic thinking. only in the loony land of liberals will the banks and landlords postpone payments. Someone needs to tell queen nancy to get off her high horse and negotiate w/president Trump about securing our borders . Imagine that she could do two good things at once, protect U.S. citizens and restart the paychecks of 800, 000 employees. I'm not holding my breath though. I think this is exactly how she wants it.
