I feel like social media is ruining all kinds of relationships. It is making us more shallow and many are lacking morals. No body is perfect but it seems as time goes on we are becoming more selfish. People curse more, violence popular these days, and sex before marriage seems to be at an all time high and marriage itself don't seem popular. We started going downhill after God was taken out of our schools. Do you agree ?

Social media probably exposes people already in a marital relationship to opportunity of extra-marital relations, but whether that happens is an individuals decision, you can't blame the Social media for peoples actions in my opinion.

I agree but I believe many are addicted to it and anything in excess is bound to cause health problems. I have a relative who is retired. They're on social media like 12 to 16 hours a day. It also seems like its making people less social and friendly.

A few years ago, at work in the lunch room people talked, mostly rubbish, but they talked; now most people are watching their mob phones, and not interacting with actual humans mere feet away, hardly at all.

With numbers of 'likes' etc. being the latest craze, people just want to be (or be seen to be) popular, so they make stuff up and embellish and lie about their lives, and take staged photos, to seem more than they really are.

You can't just believe what's in a person's profile, it could all be fiction.

And if a person's partner bores them so much, maybe they are better off looking for a new one.
Of course the excitement of a potential new partner will wear off quickly when they find out they are completely shallow and fake and the apparent attractive qualities were all staged and photoshopped, catfish style. laugh

I don't want to see photos of your shop bought food plate, or your stupid selfie from the end of a stick, or your cat/dog/child doing some mundane "cute" thing.
Forget farce book, twit, and the other time wasting info gatherers.

Get real, and get a real life ! laugh

I don't even have a 'smart' phone; mine just makes phone calls.
I get real mail, made of paper.
I pay in cash, which never has slow computer/data problems - and still works when the power fails.

The likes I hope for, are from real women who want to kiss me, etc. etc. . drool

A friend of mine spent so much time flirting with men (overseas ones) on the computer, her husband whacked the laptop over her head and broke it (the laptop).
That fixed one problem, but created another ! laugh

or could it have been the same before, and you are now just noticing it cause it more available to see

It is making us more shallow and many are lacking morals ... i think a lot of that has to do with parents not spending time with there kids and teaching them right from wrong ... just set them in front of the tv / net / games and leave them be ,and then send them to school and expect some stranger to teach them the things the parents are suppose to teach them then send them to the doc to get them one what ever pill to cure them for things they don't need...
but again goes back to a person , i have met some great parents as well as bad

more selfish , that all depends on the person

curse more , well that depends on where you live "F you" is commen for hello in New York as well as a few other places i can think of ... but you decide what is a curse word ... its just letters <shrug> or in some cases blasphemy if you are religious

sex before marriage ,
all depends on where you live , some places its not taboo , some places it is, some people have morals , some have religions ,some are just in lust with sex , it is there choice of drug or drugs

marriage itself don't seem popular.
well for me i don't for see myself getting married ever again , and since i don't sleep with a lady that i am not dating or married to, probably means no sex for me (oh that's a bloody downer)but you can only pick a dagger out of your back so often before you decide to stop letting it happen

don't think god has anything to do with it ,
insane people have all ways been here, now they just have a better chance of interacting with you, or you seeing it cause of the many different ways to interact with people / news ... are some priest's still doing bad things to little kids ? ? yes , is god taken out of there life ? ? ? no
so again i really don't think god , or gods , have anything to do with it

we all have good and bad in us , the one that grows is the one that you feed (forgot who coined that)
<shrug>

7.6 billion people alive on this planet right now.

The problem isn't social media.
Its awareness and communication.

When I grew up in the 60's & 70s people had a smaller take on the world.
Communication and information had a smaller footprint.
Nearly everything being communicated was personal level stuff.
Your 15 minutes of fame was few and far between.

Communication technology has created anonymous instant fame.
It has caused a "Stardom Effect" in everyday people.
The problem is, most people have mundane lives.
It wasn't a problem until communication and information gained focus.

Type "I just pooped" on social media and somebody will "Like" it.
Walk into a crowd of people and say it to them and people with think you're weird and move away from you.
Did the ones that "Liked" it on social media really like it?
Or was it a way to draw attention?

Social media is like jumping up and down in a crowd and saying
"I am here, look at me". Its a watering down of the "Hold my beer and watch this" mentality.
Thing is, without the coverage or popularity vote, would you do what you did?

Another thing that happens on social media is people allow other people that don't have all the facts give you life changing advice on personal matters.
Then, many are deluded enough to think that advice has merit and make decisions that are wrong for their situation.
Their lives get filled with turmoil and everything spirals out of control.

When I was on facebook, I had around 150 friends. Some were family, some were real life in my face friends and some were people I had met in school, at work or while doing recreational activities. The majority of them were people who's entire friendship was based on games.
When I decided to start pruning my friends lists, I started removing all those that were not actually in my life in person.
I ended up with 7 actual people that were actually in my life and every single one were family. Then, I realized, I didn't need facebook anymore because I wanted them to actually talk to me, see me in the flesh.
So I abandoned the account.
I immediately felt less stress.
Conflict and worry went away.
What is more amazing was the fact that I didn't actually miss it, not knowing what was going on in other people's lives.
None of it was really that important but at the time, I thought it was.
What I did find was my family started calling me more.

Did I get a call, email or visit from any of my other 'so called' friends?
Not a single one.
That was 4 years ago.
I get regular emails from facebook trying to get me to sign in.
They go straight to spam where they belong.

If I meet a woman and she can't put down her phone, she is NOT the woman for me. I don't mind if she has a facebook or social media account but that is entertainment and shouldn't interfere with 'our' time.
If she confronts me about something she read on social media about our relationship. My response will be...
"If you don't want to be with me, don't"

Yes...ever since Adam blamed Eve. "What snake? I don't see any snake here. And how did the snake convince you?" "It told me to." "Wot? (Monty Python-like) A talking snake?"
