This may not be the right place for this topic, but I'll see. how do you feel about using slang and not the proper word. I think there are some other countries may not understand. In my life, I'm trying to say yeah and yep less, and I use "yes" more. What do you think?

it depends on when and where. slang can be fun. but if you are trying to be serious and get a specific point across slang might not be your best choice

In business form, i never use slang.

In 2-bit daily chat, slang rules supreme.

I think the older we get, the less we should probably be using. Other than that, it depends upon the time and place.

Slang is inernational..most of the countries has it and use it as well, I remember growing old in Egypt, we had our slang even in Arabic language

I agree. If someone wants to make up a word they should do it for something that is not already named. Too confusing otherwise.

Most synonyms do not mean exactly the same thing. For example, “mouse gray” means a range of color, not just 7.5yr6/0.

It's just how I'm thinking. There is a time and place for it.

I have a business language and a street language. If you use either in the" others" world, it is not good.

I try not to use slang much, because I usually have a traditional job as well as a home business, so I have to be professional in both settings, which is the majority of everyday and that tends to carry over into other aspects. I don't always speak proper, but I do try to avoid slang in all aspects.

I also have two young children, and I don't want them to look stupid as they're learning to talk, so I try to talk proper to them and around them.

Me, I feel that slang is lazy talk, and it gets trite the more it gets overused. A prime example of overuse is "ROFLMAO", which thankfully died out... How many people who used it actually ever hit the floor? I personally wish LOL would go the same way; people overuse it,and sometimes I wonder if it is just an acknowledgement of the last line instead of an indication that the person actually laughed.

I think using different words make a language. Words that have the same meaning tend to migrate to mean different things, And pretty soon different groups of people are not speaking the same dialect, and the different cultural groups miss out on the meaning of what each other have to say.

But to be honest, yeah and yep do not bother me; they convey different emotions. It is when people start saying nyah and yope that I start getting frustrated.

Anybody that says F.U.*C.K. technically is using slang. As that was the shortened form of the old English term, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Basically the old English term for rape.
