What are your views on having sex before marriage?

I think the best practice is to wait for the GOVERNMENT version of marriage however, I think if there is a commitment between man and woman and God, even without government papers, it constitutes spiritual marriage and that intimacy in such a relationship is not the same as sex in casual and uncommitted relationships |

It depends what the definition of the word.... Sex? The Bible is a little vague on the matter..!!!? Some would suggest that kissing is sexual... a fairly intimate act between two people. Does the Bible make the claim that two people should resist their screaming hormones & wait until they're married before they indulge in some tonsil tennis??? :)

The Government already have rules & regulations regarding pre & post marriage. For some, marriage is nothing more than a simple piece of paper... a marriage certificate of legal convenience should one or both want to end it.

And those same couples, dependng on their religious beliefs, can also go before a pastor or whatever and be right with the Lord. But if they choose to forego that former matter, thats on them and they can fight it out in court, on their own dime. Government is out of the marriage business. What am I missing? |

I waited this long til marriage. I can wait a little longer. I was brought up to wait for marriage. When i finally marry the man of my dreams, it will all be worth it.

It is a gift you give to your husband because you are giving apart of you away to some one you love. If he thinks you are worth it he will wait. To me that shows he loves and respects you. |

"Marriage should be honoured by all,and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral" "Flee from all appearance of evil" "Holding on to the faith AND A GOOD CONSCIENCE.Some have REJECTED these and so have shipwrecked their faith" May the Lord give thee understanding

1st Corinthians Chapter 7 is very clear and specific (see verses 1 -2 and 8-9 reproduced below):
1 Now regarding the questions you asked in your letter. Yes, it is good to abstain from sexual relations. 2 But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband. 8 So I say to those who aren’t married and to widows—it’s better to stay unmarried, just as I am. 9 But if they can’t control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It’s better to marry than to burn with lust. _____________________ Obviously from the above and many other verses of the Bible, pre-marital sex (fornication)is not only wrong but abhorred by God. The only sex that is spiritually legitimate is sex within marriage. This is the stand of God in the Bible. In fact, in the old testament, the penalty for death outside of marriage was death. Today, no church will stone or burn anyone but a Christian who indulges in it without repentance will go to hell...because it is sin in the sight of God. It must be repented of just like every other sin must be repented of. I am aware that in the west (especially), people live together as 'partners' just as if they were married and it is so widespread that it looks normal and right. But in the light of God's word, it is sin! Please get married and have sex, if you can't cope without sex. |

I think we have a tendency to put our modern definitions on words in the bible, and interept them that way. In many old tribes "marriage" simply enentailed 2 pure people having sex, then from there on only being with each other.....no courts, no elaborate ceremonies etc.....I'd have to research what constituted "marriage" at the time this was written |

What are your views on having sex before marriage? My view... that I do not try to rationalize or make a deal or excuse for / with God. Especially for other people. We must decide that for ourselves. |

For if it were that way, there would be no "premarital" sex. For as soon as they had sex the first time, they would be married. And there would be no possible way for "divorce" as it wouldn't be on paper them being married. And all the way back to Moses people been getting divorced. |

Hi, Isaac,
Actually, God's word is God's word. When it says for instance: But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death (Rev 21.8) It means just that! And marriage is marriage irrespective of the procedure recognized in a given society. If the process of getting married in a particular culture or environment is for the intended couple to jump over a broom (as practiced amongst slaves in the very dark and inhuman days of slavery in America) in the full glare of friends, relatives or well-wishers, then a man and a woman who go through that process become man and wife! In Nigeria, people have various options of marriage processes: an intending couple could opt to go through the traditional/customary procedure or get married at a marriage registry or do a Church solemnization. Moslems also opt for Islamic processes. Whatever, the process, marriage is marriage and it becomes binding in the sight of God, once the process concludes. |

In running the Christian race, we all need to be very careful and vigilant, because our adversary the devil, who has been a liar from the very beginning is an expert in convincing vulnerable hearts that lies are truth...exactly as he did with Eve in the garden of Eden.
I was corresponding with a friend who I thought was a very good Christian and loving the LORD (he was even talking about full time Christian Ministry). I got the shock of my life when discourse extended to the subject of premarital sex. I reproduce below his own understanding of sex outside of marriage - including pre-marital sex: "embracing Our Lord's great gift in celebration of His holy Name..." He has convinced himself that in engaging in sex with someone he is not married to, he is only embracing the LORD's gift in celebration of God's holy name. What a lie from the pit of hell! Sin (whether it is committed with the body or with the mind or with the mouth or whatever, NEVER pleases God and does NOT celebrate God's holy name! |

Yes moses, king David, and everyone else. Jesus already died for our sins before we committed them, he has done took our punishment on that cross. Now that's not a green card to just got out and sin, that would be then vein. Including lying. One can't say they claim Jesus Christ to be their lord, savior, and great God, then with the next action intentionally do any number of different sin(s). |

And yes, Isaac, hell will be a very crowded place indeed!
The Bible makes that clear! See Luke 13: 23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. 29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. |

Yep, me and my wife had sex before we got married. She fell pregnant too, but we tied the knot in Mauritius, last summer, long before my son was born! There was no chance of us waiting, as we can't keep our hands off each other!
