Well as I have said many times in my opinion it is highly unlikely that God is anything like humans (I mean I'm like a human and *I* can't make a species much less a planet full of them, can you?)....

BUT maybe if God for some reason had some information to impart to some of God's creations (= us) then perhaps God would appear in our minds in human imagery to be polite and show us a familiar image....

in that (highly unlikely IMHO) circumstance then perhaps God would choose to resemble Santa Claus when speaking to an anglo... in order to make them feel comfortable...

but surely if appearing to a Jamaican God would sport some nice dreads?

So God would then only be *appropriately* anacronistic.... when that suits the expectation.

I meant that the Santa Claus God would be anacronistic, while the rasta god would not. So god would decide whether to be modern or not... or don't you think the Santa Clausy image of God is old-fashioned?

Santa Claus God would be no older than Rasta God. He's still being depicted as a humanoid, just a different shape/color/hairstyle. I'm sure that if the church art had been in africa or the caribbean then we'd see more of Rasta God.

Truthfully I'm holding out for Transformer God with the optional missle launcher and kung-fu grip.

If I may borrow a word from the religious, "Amen." Religious law tends to be, by turns, ambiguous, contradictory, unreasonable, unjust, and often, a deus ex mcchina means to all too human ends (read: oppressing those not members of the herd, often for advantages not earned.)

Besides, the First Commandment is blatantly at odds with the First Amendment if the U.S. is (or should be), as many in this thread content,a solely Christian nation.

I further wonder how many people championing the religious law argument can tell you, without looking it up, what the Magna Carta was?
